I would also like a strictly formal dress code.. coat and tie or barong tagalog, but there are some friends of my fiance who wear barong with khaki pants!! oh my god, ang baduy, naiinis ako if nakikita ko sila in that get up.. I'm going to ask my fiance to tell them to wear dark colored pants if they want to wear barong.

Hi sissies! Me and hubby will be attending a Chinese wedding in dec, confuse ako kase dress code indicated for ladies is evening dress.  When we say evening dress does it mean long gown or pwede na yung knee length na dress in black or any color? Reception is in 5 star hotel, pls help. TIA

^ sis i think it should be a long gown. parang 'evening gown' ng ms. universe. sounds fitting na rin kasi nasa 5* hotel nga ang reception.

Question sisses!
Our Church and Reception venue will be Airconditioned naman, so for the attire, im planning to have Strictly formal attire.
Okay lang ba na mixed ang Barong tagalog at Suit or mas maganda if Suit lang lahat? or Barong tagalog lang lahat?
Same as Cocktail dress or Long Gown for females, or Long Gowns lang lahat?

Don't sweat the small stuff.:) Kung iinsist mo pa na uniform lahat, baka ma-frustrate ka lang because I'm sure not everyone will comply. Besides, baka maging burden pa yung wedding mo sa ibang guests mo lalo na dun sa di naman affluent. But if all your guests naman are well-to-do, you can probably request for that kung gusto mo talaga.

^^^ Please make sure not to wear black :)

^^ Suit and barong tagalog are both considered formal, don't worry about it. But honestly, Filipinos are the number one rule breakers of the dress code. You'll end up with people just wearing long or short sleeve polos  >:(

It's better if all suit or all barong then all all long gown or dress. Very formal looking :)

But be ready because there will always be some people who would not follow. Di pa ko nakaattend ng wedding na lahat sumunod hehe.

If Formal ang attire, pwede ko ba ilagay na for Ladies: Long Gown or cocktail dress? or dapat Long gown lang? Considered ba ang cocktail dress as formal?
For Gents, we decided na Barong or Suit.

One problem is that people can have very different definitions of formal vs semi-formal. Lalo na dito sa Pilipinas.

A guy who isn't used to dressing up, will probably think that just because he finally has to wear a dress shirt and dress pants, that that is already 'formal'.

Even saying semi-formal can be dangerous. Some people seem to think semi-formal = collared polo shirts.  :P

One thing you can try is e.g. if you say formal attire in your invitation - just add a little note saying 'check out our website for more info on what to wear' or something to that effect.

As far as Google-ing and Pinterest-ing is concern:

FORMAL EVENT (black tie optional) - coat and tie/tuxedo, evening long dress

SEMI FORMAL EVENT - cocktail dress (shorter formal dresses) suit-can be worn with or without tie

(I have also learned when it's said Black Tie Event tuxedos lang pala ang pwede isuot ng guys)

Do these apply sa weddings sa Pinas? Or pagsinabi sa ating FORMAL it means long or cocktail. Thanks.

napapaisip ako dito sisses ah. mixed kasi bisita namin, may mga ok financially at mayroong hindi gaano. caleruega 2pm bride ako for november 2016. would you suggest na magformal kahit 2pm yung wedding? malamig naman dun sa caleruega by that time, i hope. clubhouse yung reception namin, we will have cocktails by the pool then buffet dinner sa mismong hall... mukhang mag iinvest na nga ako sa invitations, yun pala ang nagseset ng tone sa bisita.. it shows them you mean business. hay, magdidivi pa naman sana ako for invitations. haha! mukhang mapapamahal ah.

Sa amin mag-coat and tie si h2b tapos ako long gown, ang gagawin namin dress code semi-formal attire. Hindi naman na siguro off yun noh? Baka kasi pag ilagay kong formal attire matalbugan pa akong bride.

^i attended a wedding na semi-formal yung attire so I wore a cocktail dress. However, most girls lalo na yung matatanda wore slacks.

It doesn't hurt to put formal sa invitation. Filipino guests tend to underdress all the time.

Naku mukhang dapat ko na nga ata talaga ilagay na formal attire. Baka pag semi-formal ilagay ko madami mag-casual dress lang.

In our wedding I specifically stated in our invitation that it is STRICTLY FORMAL. Long gown for ladies and barong/suit for men. Everyone complied even the yayas lols. A cousin asked me properly naman (she's lesbian so she is not used to wearing gowns), I allowed her to choose between a suit or barong na pambabae and slacks. The point is, there's communication and respect for the couple =)

Also, you have to consider your venue, if its a 5-star hotel, it is appropriate to ask guests to wear strictly formal attire (long gown and suit and tie/barong).
