Ours is Strictly formal and must wear Red or Black only :D Maiba lang, i attended a smart casual wedding before and masakit sa mata yung ibang suot ng mga umattend especially yung mga parang napadaan lang ang outfit.

cocktail attire for us! hopefully, everyone will comply. i have no problem with our friends and my family since with my family i will be able to check their attire for the wedding. worried lang ako with the relatives of my hubby na his immediate family insisted to be part of the guest list. sana naman they follow our dress code. also, sana naman no one will wear white or off-white. ewan ko ba, bakit may mga tao na hindi nag-iisip na unless sinabihan kayo, never upstage the bride.

I prefer siguro Cocktail Dress or Slacks/Blouse for female and Polo or Long Sleeves for male. But no white, cream, beige, red and black :)

Sis caterpillar-girl, you can simply say "Attire: Semi-formal, Ladies: cocktail dress, flats or wedges" or something to that effect. I attended a wedding last May and parang ganun ang nakalagay sa invites kasi garden wedding din. The guests complied and wala naman lumubog na stiletto heels at that time.  ;D

^Thanks a lot aspen11! And thanks for the articles, they hit the bullseye talaga. I went to a wedding where the bride requested guests to wear dresses in "sunset colors" and a lot of us didn't have dresses in orange, or red, or red orange. Some came wearing purple, kasi minsan nga naman may pagka purple ang sunset. So in the end it looked like a fiesta instead of sunset. And some of us used the money we were going to use to buy our gifts for them to get a dress that adhered to that rule. Oh well.

hi sisses,
do you think okay lang to require the guests to wear long dresses and polo for guys? As much as possible kasi gusto ko walang sobrang ikli ng suot, just to make the event as formal as possible sana. any inputs? ilalagay ko sana sa invitation na ganun eh.. thanks :)

I too want our guests to be in their formal attires. Ladies should be in their long gowns while men should wear barong or suit.
Sa side ni h2b walang problem coz i've already attended some formal weddings sa side niya and they always adhere to the dress code. Now ang challenge is mga relatives sa side ko, d kasi masyado uso ang stictly formal event samin. So what i'll do is (aside from stating it in the invitation), i'll ask my aunt and my sister na sabihan and double check a week before the wedding if okay na attire ng mga pupunta. Hehe I don't think this will be hard since konti lang naman ang guests coming from my side coz it's a strictly adult affair din. :)

Samin nman since our reception will not be held in a hotel, sa CTK hall lang.. we'll go fo semi formal. I don't want  the guys to wear jeans.. and cocktail dress lang for girls.. I'll have my OTD include other reminders on the dress code din pag ngstart na sya with the Rsvp.

kami cocktail dress  :D kaso nung wedding namin, meron naka jeggings, tshirt. ahahha!

If you set the bar high, mag-eefort talaga yan hehe

Thanks!

When we wed  over 10 years ago :  it was Strictly Formal.
Everybody complied. Siguro kc I am known to be mataray & headstrong & young: I said whatever I wanted.  Spoiled yan, just give her what she wants. Ganon.

Now, my cousins and BFFs are marrying & ask for my advice:

1.  Your invitation & venue will set the tone.  Specially the invitation -- it should convince you're serious about your "Strictly Formal" tone.  Well, IMO, if the invite comes as bongga/expensive & very formal:  oo nga, dress up event isipin ng invited.

2.  State:  Strictly Formal.  IMO, quite a number are shy, and will dress down. So, you still get some kinda formal.

3.    Have an advance meeting with your photographer & videographer & coordinator --  how to handle those who turn up inappropriately dressed or dressed for a circus or like Tessa Prieto wanna-bees.
Photograph as "edges" of group photos, never at centers -- so madali ma cut out of photos.
The coordinator should be competent enough to herd the inappropriately attired or the couple into position sa photos.

I am also frequently asked to handle this. I lie well?
Tita! You look fabulous! The Couple want a solo photo with you and Tito! Don't join the group  photo daw. Come!
Hahahahaha

^^ sis aquarly.. natawa ako!!! LOL!

anyway, share ko lang: dress code samin ni hubby was a major issue when we first planned our wedding. Kasi he was worried with his friends baka hindi magcomply if coat and tie. even his dad didnt want to dress up (retired na kasi.) so barong nalang daw. di na ko nakipagaway even though I REALLY wanted a coat and tie ocassion. sige fine. pero when he attended a wedding sa US, nagiba isip. he wants coat and tie nalang daw kasi na super elegant siya sa tingin. hihi dali niya kausap no?  ;D

He told this to his friends and then they said, "we'll be there"

sobrang nakakatuwa! tuwang tuwa si hubby! kasi rare niya makita daw group of friends niya in such a formal ocassion all in coat and tie!

IMO, with guests, if your wedding is important to them, gagawa at gagawa sila ng paraan to comply. sa wedding namin, almost everyone complied. some of my hubby's friends even RENTED coat and tie sa sabrang hiya nila samin. kakatouch! (kakahiya din minsan kasi theyve spent pa talaga) ;) bilang lang sa kamay sino naka white long sleeves (usually mga pamangkins lang and teens). and isa lang nakabarong (lumutang siya as in!)

suggestion: if you put strictly formal, emphasize if you like barong or coat and tie. i think mas maganda if you choose one lang. for me ha!

dapat long gown lang kami for girls. pero hinayaan ko na na magcocktails din and it turned out fabulous naman.  ;)

we specifically stated in our invites na coat and tie. kaya yung isang friend namin nagbarong approached us apologizing. sabi ko naku no worries anukabah!  ;)

Just a quick question (nope, not getting married..not yet). Boyfriend and I are attending a friend's wedding in January. The dress code? "Come in your best costume" since the bride and groom used to be cosplayers in their heyday.

Would it be considered rude if I just come in a cocktail dress?

^sis, IMO dapat naka costume nga since cosplayers yung bride & groom and nakalagay naman sa invitations. Check niyo na rin woth the rest of the guests na friends if ano plan nila kasi baka mamaya lumutang ka kasi silang lahat nag-costume tapos ikaw naka cocktail dress  ;)

^^ Would it be considered rude? YES

It's their version of "Strictly Formal" .  Walang basagan ng trip.  Pls humor The Couple who see you as a close friend, sufficiently close to invite.
