LRT 6
Caviteños are excited for the expansion of the LRT-1 (Light Rail Transit), as the line, which originally stopped at Baclaran Station in its southern tip, will extend up to Bacoor, Imus, and Dasmariñas. This extension will be dubbed as the LRT-6 and will have seven stations in Cavite.
On a whim, GoCavite’s Facebook page imagined what the Niog Station in Bacoor would look like. In its rendering of the proposed station, they designed the station as a giant coconut, referencing the street’s name.
The LRT-1 will extend from Baclaran Station to cover Redemptorist, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. Santos in Parañaque, Manuyo Uno and Las Piñas in Las Piñas, Zapote along the boundaries of Bacoor and Las Piñas, and Talaba and Niog in Bacoor. From there, the LRT-6 will begin, with stations in Niog and Tirona in Bacoor, Imus and Daang Hari in Imus, and Salitran, Congressional Avenue, and Governor’s Drive in Dasmariñas.
The LRT-6 will stretch 19 kilometers, and will cost P64 billion to build. The line aims to serve 45% of Cavite’s population, or 200,000 passengers each day.
The first phase of the LRT-1 is expected to finish by June 2017, while the second phase will finish by 2019.
There is still no date of the LRT-6’s unveiling.
