^ The go-to sites of the breastfeeding moms here are kellymom and La Leche League's sites.  Good luck! :)

I am so upset. I just got home from the hospital (again!) because I had an appendectomy. I was gone for 4 days. I'm breastfeeding my son and I was still working on increasing my milk supply (baby is only 7 weeks) when I had appendicitis. While I was in the hospital, because of the pain meds I am taking I am always sleepy and was only able to pump every 4-6 hours.

Nahirapan ako sa simula ng pagbreabreastfeed dahil I had an emergency c-section. Baby's heartrate was dropping w/ every contractions, I had a fever because my amniotic fluid had an infection, and I was also Strep B positive. When my son came out, he had a fever as well and the doctors had to make sure that hindi strep B ang cause. Anyway, yun nga labas masok kami sa hospital nung first month ni baby. He wasn't gaining enough weight daw and his bilirubin level hit the critical level so I had to supplement with formula (which is bad if you are working on your milk supply).
This appendectomy made my struggle with breastfeeding even harder. Now, I am home na nga pero hindi ko naman pwede buhatin si baby because the doctors are afraid I might get a hernia. On top of that, I have to worry about getting pneumonia I have to watch my own temperature daw. Sino ang hindi maiinis sa ganito? My son is suppose to drink 4-5 oz na daw sabi ng pedia niya and I just want to cry with frustration whenever I pump for an hour and I only get an ounce. I know the first 3 months are the hardest and most important for building your milk supply. My nipples are sore and cracked but I'm not giving up. I'm just upset and sad because no matter what I do, it seems that it's never enough. I know when May 11th comes and I have to start working again, mas mahihirapan ako. I'm so sad mga sis sa mga sunod-sunod na nangyayari sa buhay namin. :( I really really want to breastfeed my son...

sis skyrimgal, baka un sinasabi ni pedia na 4-5oz is pang formula fed. Don't mind na muna un figures. Continue to keep feeding baby on demand. Tlagang tyagaan try to pump every 2-3 hours or in between feedings to increase supply. Effort talga sis pero worth naman.
Yun baby ko hindi nasususnod un mga say - dapat by x months x ounce na un nadedede na milk (i pumped kasi) he drinks bm from bottle pero he directly feeds din from me. Palaging parang kulang un sinasabi na standard pero he's gaining weight each month naman and never sya nagkasakit. He's already a year old we're mixed feeding na pero un entire na na exclusively bfed sya until now tlagang walang sakit. Basta try lang ng try sis. When all else fails and you supplement dont feel bad about yourself.

sis liam88, i can sympathize with you. ayaw din ni baby magdirect feed sakin ng first month because i have inverted nipples. i pumped and fed her sa bottle. akala ko nun never na ko makakapagdirect feed pero i persisted lang. pag good mood si baby, we try direct feeding. pag naiinis na sya, i give her the bottle. practice lang kami ng practice until nung Valentine's Day this year (almost 1 month na sya), nakalatch na sakin ng maayos.

she's 2.5 months and she direct feeds na pero on my left breast pa lang kasi she still rejects my right breast since it's more inverted than the left. pinupump ko yung right and store the milk. medyo hindi na pantay yung boobies ko pero ok lang. we're still working on the right boob. i know eventually we'll get there.

ang haba na ng post ko but my point is, don't lose hope. magpump ka lang diligently to maintain your supply and still offer your breast kahit umiiyak pa si baby. magegets din nya yun eventually. :)

@kaice

i stopped pumping at work when my daughter was 2 years and 2 months. halos hindi na rin kasi niya naiinom yung expressed milk ko kaya i decided to stop na, although we're still breastfeeding until now na almost 3.5 years na siya.

wow! 3+ years of breastfeeding? pano yun kung several days di niyo kasama si baby like out of town trips, nagppump parin kayo regularly just to drain the breasts??

^that's the thing, i don't travel ng matagal ng wala siya. sinasama ko talaga siya usually. longest i've been without her were overnight trips, and i pump pa rin and make sure na there's a ref that i can use to store my expressed milk, pag wala, i skip out on those trips.

sis kaice, we tried giving J fresh milk kahapon just to test. magnolia in particular. waley, niluluwa. :( his teeth, pangil and molar erupted at the same time! kaya siguro ayaw magdirect feed the past days. now he is feeding directly na ulet. the search for alternative milk is still on.

i have several out of town trips in line pero max that i'm not with baby is overnight. we will go out of the country as a family.

m_lim - formula feeding mothers are not less superior thatn bfing moms. though i would chose to dump and pump or pump and store if i were in your place kasi for sure if you have much milk, you will feel discomfort if you wont pump them out. it could lead to mastitis or fever pa. pero if you can't pump enough milk good for 3 weeks, have formula for standby though it won't be that easy din for the baby to adjust. some babies din develop certain reactions to formula kasi.

iristacey - baby K had sips of fresh milk. ok sa kanya ang milo and chocolait but not in high amounts kasi sa sugra but i tried mixing her oats with choco drink, and she loves it. though wala pa kong plans to discontinue pumping basta payag pa ang boss and sked permits. she is comfort feeding din the past days, baka nga may pa labas ding teeth kasi we were stuck at 6 teeth :)

@skyrimgal - i was in a similar situation a few months ago. i continued pumping even if i just dump after. i wanted to continue breastfeeding. kahit na hindi religious ang sked ko, i pumped 3-4x a day depende kung gaano ako ka-mobile that time. ang hirap sila ibalik sa breast ano? umiyak din ako when i saw my baby pointing sa bottle for milk. but all is well, we are back na to direct feeding. mind over matter sis, kaya mo yan. hydrate and think happy thoughts!

@carmis - pwede yan conzace. ako i take stresstabs or clusivol ob.

^his reaction to fresh milk was worse than frozen bm. talagang niluluwa/tinatapon. i'm really having supply issues lately eh. i'm not really sure why. i'm taking fenugreek na pero wala pa rin.

I started mixed feeding na my baby just last week. Malakas pa rin naman milk ko, I can bring home 16 oz milk everyday for the 12-14 hours na am away from my baby  pero ang lakas pa ring dumedede ng baby ko even at night. Malakas din siyang magsolids. But she usually drinks 3-4oz of milk per feeding lang naman. Due to my erratic sched, flight delays and as well as ang hirap isingit ng pagpupump dito sa bahay dahil walang yaya/katulong, I decided na ok na imixed feed si baby. She only consumes naman 2oz of formula milk everyday. Gusto ko mang fresh milk itry talaga pero my pedia said NO na muna. Kaya I made her try Nido Jr. At first, ayaw niya but eventually she likes it na rin. Happy na rin kasi talaga akong nakaabot ako ng one year na at first I thought was impossible. :)

^wow! dami mo pa rin milk. ako, i really don't know why but my supply has dropped. max output is 3oz every 3 hrs, both breast na. sa umaga lang marami like 6-7oz. parang its output is 1oz/hr na lang. i bought a small can of GPA na. will test once wala na spare frozen bm.

marssie - dont be pressured kasi lalo ka mawawalan ng milk dahil sa stress. take one day at a time, tingnan mo kami nina iristacey at geekchiq, nakarating ng one year sa one day at a time scheme namin hehe! have breastfeeding breaks din, take a leave ng monday or friday...
