Then you must study law in the UK.  The UK is a common law jurisdiction while the Philippines is a civil law jurisdiction. Doon pa lang, magkaiba na ang approach. I am not certain about UK Bar rules, but it is likely that your JD or LLB in the Philippines might not be sufficient and you may be required to study further in the UK to qualify for taking the exams for Bar admission.

I have friends who took their LLM in the UK, but never practiced there.  Only one lawyer I know (at least, in my generation) got to practice law in the UK and she was Valedictorian of her UP Law class and an Oxford scholar.

A new lawyer working as an associate will get around 18,000-25,000. It is low if working in the government. Working in the company for someone with 10 years experience will be around 120k up plus benefits of course

This is too low. It's at least 30k now for an associate. The bigger firms can go up to 45k.

Haha been a lawyer for almost 12 years na and  that salary i mentioned  was during my time pa pala. I am now employed in a multinational company engaged in sales and manufacturing. Its hard because its just me in the legal department but i get to farm out other cases na di ko feel i handle. We have at least 4 law offices naman. So far, pay is good. Sa umpisa lang mahirap.

Started my career 1 year sa judiciary, 2 years in law firm, and and 9 years as in house counsel. Ang hirap sa law firm trabahong alila hehe and pay is not good if you are just an associate.

Now I'm already set to move to the province and establish a career there. Okay daw kasi yung opportunities sa amin. Sa mga sisses natin na lawyers din, have you ever thought of doing the same move?

I've been a lawyer for 2 years now. Galing na ako sa law firm, BPO, company in-house.And I guess, I can say that the competition is really stiff here sa Manila. And lawyers talaga, hindi naman mawawalan ng trabaho yan. It's just a question of whether you love your job, only then you can say na fulfilling yung napili mong profession.

^ i think its more due to the language barriers. if you have at least JLPT N2, i think you'll be able to manage. Pero i've also heard that there are some courses in certain schools that teach in english....but i'm not sure about that.

Tanong ko lang, kung balak ko bang mag law firm (should I decide to go to law school after all), grade conscious ba sila?

I heard na pag 4th year na daw, diyan daw nagsisimulang magparamdam mga law firm kaso sa mga top 20 students lang daw? is this true? paano naman yung mga average lang grades pero maabilidad naman?

^ honestly, law firms are more school conscious than grade conscious. secondary nalang yung grades. if you plan on entering law school, target nalang the big three (up, ateneo and beda). =)

Hi! sissies, I'm newbie here and I really enjoy reading your insights and advices. I'm an education graduate planning to pursue law in the near future. I must say that law is my dream profession but then again I know that I still need to consider a lot of things before deciding to pursue law school but then again as of now maybe the primary concern that I must have is to pass the entrance exam and interview and next finish my law school then pass the bar and maybe when that time comes saka ko na isipin yung firm at target department or company na gusto ko pagtrabahuhan.

For lawyers out there, is it possible to venture (part-time/sideline) to another field while pursuing legal practice?

I am interested in becoming a lawyer but I also want to be a writer.

Assuming I am a lawyer now, how should I start pursuing to be a writer even on a sideline basis?

^ Sis, time management lang iyan. I know many active lawyers na professors and/our businessmen pa. May mga lawyers din na authors ng mga books. Kaya mo iyan.

I'll be turning 33 this year. This is my biggest regret - not be able to continue my Law studies. I took up Polsci and graduated at the top of my class yet I'm the one who weren't able to become a lawyer. Sad. Has anyone here like around late 30s na naglalaw pa rin? Do you think it's not too late for me to take it up probably a few years from now?

^ i know friends who are taking law now and they told me they have classmates who are in their 30s and 40s. They also know some who graduated at that age. They also know some who quit because they chose to build families first. One thing they told me is that law school gives one year leave of absence which can be helpful to those 30s and up who have families and suddenly face conflicts between their law school life and private/family life. They can use the one year to fix issues etc. instead of quitting law school entirely or not starting it in the first place. Maybe you could take a similar approach?
