Being the one who handles our money, kelangan very wary talaga ako sa payments. Eto ang mga natutunan ko :

1) Pay credit card balance in full, walang tira.
2) Learn to prioritize things that needs to be purchased.
3) Stick to your list when buying groceries, try some items na pwede naman cheaper (like dishwashing liquid. I tried the B1T1 ok naman pala kesa buying those na 40+ per pack).

Whenever I would eat in SM Food Court, I will buy water or soda muna in the grocery/department store or in Watson's. Half the price ang natitipid ko.

Even my husband who's in Canada imitated this method na rin. Bibili muna siya sa Dollarama (a dollar store) ng soda so mahigit $1 ang natitipid niya every day.

^True! Pag nag-compute, talagang malaki ang savings. 

Minsan ako pag nasa hotel buffet, me baon pa akong soda na nakalagay sa Starbucks tumbler (para di halata haha). Noong una nae-eskandalo husband ko, pero sabi ko Php250+ ang isang can ng soda sa hotel. Bitin pa. So I'll bring my own na lang na hindi obvious haha! Pag buffet kasi, minsan hindi kami ok pag water lang kasi nga parang may after taste. Halo-halo na ang food. Kaya pag may kainan mahilig kami sa soda.

i only got balanced fund and equity of bdo ... both are medium to high risk .. kaya mejo may losses din .. but i'm in it for the long haul

I like this idea which I read in a blogsite,

"Whenever you're going to a cinema to watch for movie, instead of buying popcorns, make your own. Before going, prepare and cook pop corn from your house. After popping all pop corns, put it in a sealed bag (Glad products) and put salt and other flavours you have (powdered cheese, barbecue and etc.). Close the seal and shake it. And viola! No need to spend $$$ just to have a popcorn."

I didn't do this pa but I'm considering to do this in the future kapag manunuod ako ng sine with my little nephew. :-)

Read that again sis, use glad plastic containers daw meaning
airtight.
Chips are also packed that way and they don't go makunat do they now? ;p

@mrsB, same tayo ng situation pero in this case ako ang husband.
Nahihiya misis ko para sa akin kung bumibili ako ng soda sa grocery
when eating out haha. Pero it really saves a lot of money.

Pa subscribe ako mga sis, naubos ang savings ko (at may utang pa) dahil nagkasakit ako.  Sa ngayon try ko ulit kahit super liit lang, pero importante naman meron diba? Gusto kong matuto ng mga tips on saving and masaya magbabad sa ganitong thread nakaka inspire at motivate

i think you can shift naman, they do allow that i believed. I don't have uitf with bdo right now, but with the MF i have I was able to shift from equity early this year to bond so i was able to keep it in the green.
Maganda rin yung long haul ( i have some na long haul rin).

nagka-prob sa last trip namin at napagastos ako ng bongga. so, yung budget ko for my next trip, nagamit ko na. ang hirap na naman magstart since sa christmas pa ulit dadagsa ang mga bonuses. ang sweldo naman every kinsenas ay nakabudget na din for the regular gastos (rent sa bahay, pamasahe, food, etc.) hays. wala tuloy akong mapanggastos naun kasi nasira budget ko. nakakaloka na. T___T

I just paid our CCs online before I logged in here. Nakakatuwa na ma-wipe out yung debts. I admit, medyo nalulong kasi kami ng Husband ko sa shopping (in-store and online) a few months back kaya natambak ang bayarin sa CCs. Nakakalula pag dumadating ang statement pero thank God nababayaran naman lagi in full. Now we agreed not to use the CC anymore.

Subcribing.

What frustrates me is instead of putting the money on our savings, most of it goes to emergency of others. Like nasiraan ng car yung dad nya, nagpatawag na ng mechanic, we thought he haD money yun pala sa amin manggagaling. Another thing is yung tuition ng brother niya, we told them that we are willing to shoulder 50% of his tuition, since we dont have a child yet and medyo ok naman yung income namin, it's like they become dependent to us knowing that they have good income from rents but I dont know kung bakit di nila napapakasya yun.. It's like we are always being caught off guard na wala ka ng magagawa but to give. Before na kakapirangkot palang sahod namin, ok naman sila and they understand na wala kaming mabibigay.

Masyado kaming nagtitipid ni hubby. Nagcocommute lang kami if we will be going to mall kung wala namang maraming bibilhin para tipid sa gas at parking fee. We usually buy things in bulk para lakI ang savings. We even made our own fabric conditioner and  dishwashing liquid, before it's for our own consumption lang, ngayon, nagiging passive income na rin kahit papaano.

Yup, you said it.
You are what's called an "enabler" in psychology.

Basically you support their bad habits by trying
to help them out ultimately exacerbating the problem.

You end up making it worse rather than helping.

For couples who has mixed finances like I do.
I've found a budgetting software which has a companion
app to be a Godsend.

Previously my wife is very distant from budgeting. But
now, she can use her phone to view where we stand budget-wise
real time. Anything she inputs gets synced to my phone as
well as the main desktop one and vice versa 

And I can now do zero-sum budgeting and envelope budgeting
effectively. Quicken sucks at budgeting.

^^ yeah, you're right. I never set up boundaries from the very start probably because our family is our weakness, yung parang I feel bad  na di sila matulungan. Lesson learned. Now, I stand kung ano lang yung kaya naming matulong sa kanila, at yun na yun, no more add ons.. lol
