Thanks for sharing your experience terranova. Would you mind sharing how long have you been invested in each and which one has posted the best gains for you?

To others out there who are still new to this, please do note that the three investment vehicles terranova mentioned are very different animals. FAMI is the mutual fund out of the three. COL or Citisec Online is a stock broker, through whom you can buy shares of stocks of your own choosing (and managing). PRU or PRU Life is an insurance company, so naturally, their investments always have an insurance component. Would just like to point that out -- I remember back when I was a newbie, I'd get so easily confused with the different terms and companies.

tama sis, magkakaiba nga sila. i prefer mf talaga if hindi ko matutukan ang stock market. pero nag invest din ako dun. pero mas masaya ako sa philam asset ko.

Wow..gusto ko rin mag-invest sa Mutual Funds kaso I don't know where to start. Well, mag-back read muna ako.

Sa mga sis natin, paano po magstart? Ano po ang initial capital required?

Most mutual funds have an initial investment requirement of 5k
then 1k for subsequent investments.

Good luck

Just opened Equity Fund in FAMI, mababa kasi stocks ngayon I think its the best time to enter right? Ang laki na din kasi ng NAVPS ng Philam and Philequity unlike FAMI its only around 4-5 so malaki pa ang growth for long term right since its started naman with 1 peso NAVPS maybe after 10yrs double or triple na siya?

Phiequity = 29.6 (started at 1.1 yr 1995)
Philam = 481.05 (started at 79.15 yr 1998)
FAMI = 4.84 (started at 1.0 yr 2005)

feel free to correct if im wrong. thanks!

^Yes, it's a good time to invest in equities now if you're a long-term investor. But the NAVPS alone is not an indicator of the fund's growth potential; it's really just a number. Some funds start at 1, some start at 100.

If you're looking for growth, it's better if you look at a fund's historical performance -- it's not a guarantee, but it's a good gauge of how the current managers handle the fund, particularly during up markets and down markets. Some funds really shoot up during bull markets, but when things take a down turn, they tend to take really deep plunges. Other funds don't react as violently, while others go at a steadier pace but barely move at all.

You can also look at the fund's current portfolio holdings. For example, the Odyssey funds made a horrible bet on mining stocks this year, so they're the laggards in mutual funds/UITFs now. If you're not comfortable with a fund that has mining stocks, you would stay away from the Odyssey funds. You can also look at the fund managers themselves -- FAMI's Gus Cosio is regarded as one of the best traders/hedgers out there, so many are confident in placing their money in the funds that he manages.

on time naman siya sis, minsan nag-iincrease, minsan nababawasan, depende sa economy, LOL
ngayon, nababawasan, hays, pero monthly ko lang naccheck e, pero andon naman lahat ng nahulog ko na, and may confirmation letter naman, kung feeling mo hindi nagreflect, but most likely nagrereflect naman palagi :)

^ thanks for answering sis :)

etong sales load na per annum, is this deducted from your total amount yearly? for example:
total value: 50,000.00
sales load: 1.5 % p.a.
total value after deduction: 50,000 - (50,000 * .015) = 49,250.00

or is the sales load being done every time you top up? for example:
monthly investment: 2,000
total value after deduction: 2,000 - (2,000 * .015) = 1,970.00

which is which po, mga sis?

@artificialstar

sales load = deducted from your investment
                  deducted every time you invest

management fee = deducted on a yearly basis
                            deducted from the fund as a WHOLE i.e. you won't see nor feel it
                            as the NAVPS is already net of taxes and fees including the management fee

Hindi, dapat na deduct na yun pero it takes sometime
for it to show up as an investment if bagong investment
account to

pero kung existing na at bagong investment lang
then it should show up right away.

I called BPI kanina. Manila daw yung booking ng fund (nasa Visayas kase ako), sana ma-process na agad to while down pa ang market. :)
