^^^The Philequity fund is actively managed while the index fund isn't and just follows the index. What's strange is that for an index fund, it sure has high fees. And anyway, the Philequity fund has consistently performed better than the index, so I would still go for that over their index fund.

^^Good choice! FAMI is a top performer talaga: http://fami.com.ph/2013/07/fami-wins-10-awards/. Not to metion, masmababa fees compared to Philequity. Someone just mentioned here that you can do top-ups to your FAMI funds through UnionBank online transfers, which makes it very convenient.

^You can redeem anytime, pero kung gusto mo na walang fees, you have to wait for the six-months holding period to expire.

^I've been wondering about that pala. Inversely related ba talaga ang fixed income/bond funds and ang equity funds? Kapag down ang market, automatic ba na tataas ang fixed income/bond funds? Sa Philequity din kasi, ang YTD return ng bond fund nila is 15%, while the equity fund is 8.3%. I've been looking kasi for an investment I can put my money in kapag bear market; I'm not 100% sure if a fixed income/bond fund is it. I'd appreciate it if someone could explain the correlation between the two. Thank you.

Based on your question, it seems like you do not have
a firm grasp of how mutual funds work yet.

Its best that you google it and go from there.
Mutual funds here in the Phil and in the US, is fundamentally
the same.

But to answer your question, there is no interest rate.
Just capital gains(or loss).

You buy shares when you invest in mutual funds and like
physical merchandise, these shares have a price.
The only difference is, the price like oil is very volatile,
it goes up and down.
And that's how you earn.
Let's say you buy a share at 1 peso, then sell it once
it reaches 2 pesos.

But really, google it as there are a lot of articles about
mutual funds that you can learn from.

Hi girls! I hope everybody is well. :)

Anyway, I've been reading a lot about FAMI. I am thinking of investing in Balanced Funds for 2 years only, as I would need the money to pay for something in the near future. I haven't opened an account yet with FAMI, maybe I'll do it next week. I am not based in the Philippines but I manage to go back to Manila once every month for a day or two. I am VERY confused with the top up/additional investment procedure for FAMI. In this case I don't have a Metrobank account because I am banking with BPI. So if I will do my top ups through cash deposits, what's the next step? email or fax them the deposit slip? Do you suggest na mag-open na lang ako ng Metrobank account? If ever online top-ups, do I still have to email them? Inconsistent ba ang FAMI? Ang stressful naman kasi kung wala silang maayos na sistema. Help!

With COL kasi, I like their system. Very clear and convenient.

Thanks a lot! :-*

^ sis, i suggest mag-open ka na lang ng account sa Metrobank. very convenient ang pag top-up. i email the screen cap of payment confirmation then they will respond naman acknowledging receipt. pero yung last top up ko mga 3 weeks ago, hindi nag-reply sa email pero na-receive ko agad yun confirmation receipt na pinadala sa house. mga 1 week lang yata. ang bilis compared sa previous ones.

Hi sisses, is now a good time to invest in mutual funds? Is the NAVPU lower now kaya its good to buy? or shall I wait for a better time to make my first investment? Thanks in advance!

^I would wait for a pullback before making a placement, perhaps at the end of the week or Tuesday next week after the end of window dressing and the US debt ceiling announcement. October up to early November also looks like a volatile time, so it'd be best do do cost-averaging over this period.

Kung isang bagsakan naman ang gusto mong gawin -- if you're the buy and forget type -- I would also advise to wait for a dip or a correction. Equities are soaring now, so not the cheapest time to enter.

I recently just made an isang bagsakan investment in a UITF myself. Placed it right before the FED tapering announcement and buti na lang positive ang news!

wow thanks sis @ikaela for that prompt reply! i didnt understand half of the terms you used (window dressing, FED tapering) but I got the gist-- dont buy muna now because equities are soaring. Will wait and see what happens and buy when low.

^Sorry about the terms, I'm also trying to time my entry in the stock market at puro mga ganyan binabasa ko. :)

Window dressing: around this time, at the end of a quarter, fund managers sell bad-performing investments for better-performing ones to make their portfolio look nicer, even if it means getting into those high-fliers at expensive prices. Para mapakita nila sa investors nila na kunwari they had been invested in those all along. Kaya taasan ang mga prices ng stocks ngayon, at may bumibili naman, because of this.

FED tapering: Kakaba-kaba tayo last Sept.17-18 kasi may news na tatanggalin na daw ng US FED yung bilyon-bilyon na ininject nila sa emerging markets like the Philippines. Eh hindi natuloy; dollars remain here and party continues. Kaya happy-happy lahat, and it shows in the stock market.

So suma total, yes, medyo mataas ang entry price ngayon, kahit sa mutual funds. At least wait for this week to end.
