Hello, newbie lang po. Since there's a bear trend in the stock market, ok pa din po bang mag-invest sa mutual funds? Looking at BDO Equity or Peso balanced fund po sana. Hope you can give insights. I appreciate your help very much. :)

^ BDO equity and balanced fund are also invested in the stock market.

Stocks are down, and so will most equity and balanced funds kasi affected ang mga yan ng stock market movements.

If you are after short term gains, both funds that you are eyeing are definitely not for you.

Even then if you choose those conservative UITF - that is, the bond funds - that is also suffering losses too as of now, even if those are not invested in stock. Pero not as worse as the equity and balanced funds.

Kung long term ang goal mo - that is, keep the money in the BDO equity and balanced fund for more than 10 and 5 years respectively without touching any of it, then it's okay to put money in (or you could wait further until things are cheaper, then buy buy buy - no matter what, over time there's really nowhere for the stock market to go but up).

phoenixyox, we're in the same situation. Got cash to invest but no place to put it in this down market.

One thing we can do: invest little by little while prices are low, then wait for things to go back up. Some say this current downtrend is just a correction and the PSEi should be back to 7500 or even 9000 by the end of the year. Some say we are already entering a bear market. Whichever it is, we can invest now, and then either profit by the end of the year, or not within a few more years. We'd prefer the former, of course. Basta, this one is for long term.

Another thing we can do: invest muna somewhere else, like a time deposit.

Third thing: Remain liquid. Keep everything in cash.

Phoenixyox, not an expert here but a fellow newbie in investing, I think when its low, which is now, yun ang best time to invest though of course you'll never if it will go lower pa. Though of course it depends on your timeframe, as they say dont invest money that you need, kumbaga, retirement fund/ long term ang outlook so you wont be affected by the dives now.

From what I've learned here and other stuff I'm reading, you should always have first an emergency fund which is equivalent to 6 mos of your cost of living.

Ask ko lang po sa mga may MF sa Philequity, since pwede po magdeposit sa BDO account nila aside from Unionbank and eastwest, does this mean pwede nadin magtop up using BDO online?

Thank you po!

pink_baby, if BDO allows transfer of funds to another BDO account (in this case, Philequity's BDO account), then pwedeng-pwede. That's what I do through Unionbank. :)

Sisses I have a question regarding top ups sa mutual fund. How does it work ba?
Is it the same with UITF na pag nagtop-up ka, depends sa NAVPS that day? (Sa UITF kasi, hindi top up, considered as another UITF account if you invest more, hindi madadagdagan yung first UITF na you opened, even if same product)

So yung pagmonitor ng gains, iba iba ang rate since iba iba ang rate everyday? Feeling ko kasi iba because you use the term top-up meaning dinadagdan mo investment, but I wonder lang paano kwentahin gains nun? What NAVPS will be followed? Dun sa rate from the initial investment?

Thanks so much! :)

Hmmm, I beg to differ about UITFs having different account numbers.
I have BDO,BPI and UCPB and they don't do that.
With BDO, you have one master client(account) number and a certificate
of participation for each investment. Each COP has its own unique number
and that's as close you get to "multiple accounts".

I also fail to see how you would have trouble figuring out your gains.

Lets say you invested 10,000 and got a NAV of 1.
You get 10,000 units.
Treat this as account number one if it makes it easier to picture in your
head.

Then you invest another 10,000 and got a NAV of 2
You get 5,000 units.
This would be account number two.

Ok, fast forward a few years and the NAV is 3.
So, just take your 15,000 units and multiply it by 3
and you get 45,000. Since you invested 20,000 then
your gain is 15,000.

See.. its easy as pie :D

Don't let the terms confuse you.

kwento ko lang mga sis. nag-top up ako kanina sa FAMI ko through metrobank. nagpunta ko sa bank nila. nakakatuwa kasi may friend ako sa metrobank na branch na yun. sabi nya sa akin during the transaction, pwede daw ba magtanong about FAMI yung teller nila (paano daw ako tumutubo sa MF). ok lang naman sa akin kaya nag-explain ako madalian lang kasi madami pang tao sa bank. sabi ko bisitahin nya ang FAMI website (sinulat ko sa papel). naisip ko the banks do not even orient their employees about investments. ewan ko lang kung na-orient sila about UITF, ito kasi ang product ng banks na parang mutual funds din.

^^thanks for the clarification! Sorry also for the confusion, I didn't really mean different account 'numbers', what I really meant to say was different accounts.

I know how to compute my gains :) I just asked if MF is also like UITF when computing gains. I just wanted to make sure because yes, I got confused with the terms :)

Thanks again! :)

I guess I got confused about why you would get confused
just because different terms mean the same thing. hehe

Well anyway, at least you're no longer confused.

I think your agent is proposing Option B - yung tipong ang sales charges applicable lang when you withdraw the fund. If you choose to let that mutual fund stay for more than 5 years, then those back-end sales charges are waived. Thus, kung i-wi-withdraw mo before the 5 year term, may sales charges na i-a-apply.

Tama, 5k to initially fund a Sunlife MF account then you can opt to add funds to it but at P1k minimum.

I don't know why she said na one time pay - maybe she was offering one of their VUL products na one time pay? May mga nakataling MF sa mga VULs nila. Either this or she meant to state that Option B above.
