unsolicited advice to fellow gtalkers who are interested in starting an mf investment-- bago kayo magdive in, do as much research as you can. good feedbacks you get from others who have already invested are good, pero dahil hard earned money natin ang nakataya diyan, sabi ng mga investment gurus, importante pa rin talaga na aralin kung ano ang pag-iinvestan mo.  kasi sabi nga rin nila, don't invest in something you don't understand.

bago ako naginvest, super surf ako sa mga websites ng philequity, pami, sun, etc. i started with very little knowledge about mfs pero tinry ko talaga intindihin kahit brainbleed ang inabot ko. i met with different agents, at bawat isa kinulit ko talaga with different questions (na nakuha ko lang sa mga websites guiding newbies like me kung ano ang dapat alamin before one invests in a mutual fund). kahit yung iba napakapushy and wanted me to invest in something else or add to my investment, i stuck with my own decisions. wala kasing ibang nakakaalam sa overall financial well being natin more than we ourselves. that knowledge plus the knowledge you will get from research should guide you kung saang company ka magiinvest at kung magkano at kung anong klaseng mf.

i agree with you sis goldengoose. kailangan alam natin yung investments na pinapasok natin.

share ko lang mga sis: 2 yrs ago ako nag start sa mutual fund. but that was after months of reading blogs and other articles about mf's. then i started sharing this with my friends, kasi gusto ko din na mainvest nila yung money nila at yung hindi lang nakalagay sa time deposit. syempre, medyo skeptical sila which is normal lang naman. good thing na this year, naencourage yung si friend #1 mag invest na sa mf kasi nakita nya na maganda yung returns ko. then si friend #2, gusto nya din mag invest kaya lang ayaw naman nya magapply personally sa banks due to her busy schedule. gusto nya magbibigay sya sakin ng certain amount then i-add ko lang yun sa existing investment ko. while si friend #3 is trying to learn what mf is and pag naaral na daw nya mabuti, saka sya magiinvest.

my reaction: first, happy ako kasi interested na din sila mag invest. 2nd, sad pa din kasi they entered/want to enter into something na hindi nila totally inaaral (except for friend #3). di pa nila alam kung ano ba talaga ang mutual fund pero sumabak agad dahil nagandahan sila sa returns ko. lagi ko nga sinasabi sa kanila na wag nila ko sisihin pag bumaba fund value nila.  my point is, before venturing into something, dapat familiar na tayo dito. ganun din naman kahit saang business. ganun din sa mf. sabi nga, "past performance is not an indication of future results" ;)

haha pareho tayo sis jessie. tatlo sa mga friends ko naginvest na rin sa mutual fund dahil sa kakaencourage ko. advocacy ko na nga talaga yang mfs. kasi for the regular person it's the best option basta sigurado ka sa stability ng kumpanyang pagiinvestan mo.

pero yun bago naginvest yung tatlong friends ko na yun syempre nagresearch sila on their own. megabrowse sila sa websites, nagcompare sila ng ibat ibang mf companies and ibat ibang mfs, talked to other friends na may mfs din. bago sila nagdive in :-)

^good job mga girls! tama. ang pera na iinvest natin ay pinaghirapan natin, wag nating pabayaan lang sa iba. kaya din kung mag-iinvest kayo tanungin nyo lahat ng gusto nyo tanungin sa agent kung meron man. money natin to karapatan natin malaman saan napupunta at sa paanong paraan nila ginagamit.

Pls help, I have extra funds I'd like to invest. Malaki laki rin. I'm thinking whether to invest in FAMI SALEF or BDO UITF. San kaya mas ok? Or half half? But mejo matagal naman investment horizon ko, mga more than 3 years. San kaya mas ok ilagay ngayon? Thanks!

^I suggest half half.  That's what I did with FAMI and Philam Equity para hindi magsisi since distributed sya.

^Hmm... Kasi diba UITF has no sales load? Mas ok ata yun. Thanks for the input xtine!

@cookie, yes you would have to pay your agent
but its not like you gave them money separately.

What happens is, if say you invest 1k, the actual
amount that gets invested is only say 98% of 1k.
(i'm pretty sure 2% is FAMI's sales load at the lowest
tier)

Then FAMI would be the one giving the agent
his commision.

You don't have to pay them.  When you look at the website,  there's a FEE section indicating the entry fee %.  For instance its 3.3% if your investment is 100k and an exit fee. Also, if you're lucky with the agent, they will even email you when is the best time to invest.  Like me,  when I do topup for PAMI, I just do remittance on my BPI then I do bills payment directly to PAMI, not the agent.  For FAMI, i do separate remittance to metrobank then bills payment to FAMI.

hi mga sis. i opened an account with philequity last week. kahit unpredictable ngayon ang stock market, top up lang ng top up. 15-20 years pa naman ang target ng redemption ko. but instead of topping up sa existing mutual fund ko, i decided to open with philequity.

good luck to me  8)

Pag long term sya, say, 10 years, malamang kita ka na nun.  Unless gusto mo na sya agad claim within the month, talagang talo na.

Pag bumaba pa sha by wednesday, baka magpasok nga ako ng malaki laki.  Since for long term naman sha, at least mababang presyo ko binili.

^Andami books nagrerecommend ng index fund. Bakit nga ba? Would you say now is a good time to invest in an index fund (as opposed to equity, balanced, money market, and etc. funds)?

Also sis leelou, why are you waiting for ALFM's index fund? Diba meron index fund other companies like PhilEquity?
