whatkat and imbisibol_ they're lucky talaga chill lang ako. :)

fajnadupa my mom has 'connections'  so I was able to get the license without any personal appearance. :) pero strict sa requirements, even the family planning seminar, my mom took a 'test' before they issued my license. the 'test' doesnt make sense at all, it was still my mom who answered it, for documentation purposes siguro pero para hindi na padala dito sa amin, mama ko na sumagot. hihi...

3 things wished have done differently: 1) the closed door and the bridal march song which i posted earlier, sana both were done the way i have imagined those. 2) pictorials - this one not really done differently pero sana may dagdag. most of my Filipino friends went back to their hotels after the cocktails to change their clothes. hindi sila kasama sa pictorials sa beach. sayang ang ganda sana. i forgot to ask them to stay for pictures kahit nagpaalam sila sa akin na uwi muna sila.  sa church lang complete ang guests sa pictures. sa reception kase hindi naman kami nagpicture table to table kase initial plan ko talaga sa beach ang group pic. plus gabi na sa reception so hindi na maganda background.  i have jump shots sa beach and for my foreigner guests - i printed the jump shot pic and included it in their thank you cards.  ang saya-saya tingnan ng jump shot pics. blue sky, white sand, nice dresses, tapos jump lahat. :) I should have put the schedule sa welcome letter hindi lang sa invites.

aside from those, wala na akong babaguhin. :)

imbisibol and fajnadupa amanda will be away for her brother's wedding the same time we're getting married so even with the partial package, she won't be there on our wedding day. You're right imbisibol--everyone can plan. It's the perfect execution on the day that we pay for....but even after saying that I feel we don't really have a choice but to get the partial package as we would need help with the marriage license, among other things.

Ladies, I need help with our wedding program. What are the nice things to do? Did you get/Are you getting professional emcees? Are there any in Boracay?

Thank you :)

hi whatkat! :) we got the partial package from amanda.. she helped us source the flowers (both bouquet and church) as the rest of the suppliers were my personal contacts. i love that the team was so detailed about everything, from the setup, the songs, etc. but i was even more appreciative of them a week before the wedding. it seemed like they had everything covered.  with all the cancelled and rerouted flights, the team was ready with the transfers for our guests.  the program was so smooth the entire time. and i had cora with me the entire day to give me every little thing i need or i might need. and oh, our wedding reception was at seawind but i prepared in astoria. and amanda got me astoria's car to take me to the church for free. although we got several vans to take everyone to the church, amanda got me astoria's van, for me to take alone.. :) with the partial coordination, the team was even there during our rehearsal dinner making sure everything was okay! :)

and also pala, early morning of our wedding day it rained and there was a marathon pa nga yata.. while i was having my makeup done at around 1030am, amanda was really quick to ask me if im willing to have some back up tents set up in case it would rain since i need to pay seawind for it given that according to amanda, there's a forecast for rainshower at 7pm. i liked how prepared she was. but fortunately, it didn't rain at all :) also, in preparation for the pictorial, she gave us a definite 6:02pm sunset haha! talk about specifics. :)

whatkat, we didn't get a professional emcee for the reception.  i didn't know what to think with  one proposal we got from a service provider that will remain unnamed.  there was a line that said something like "i will also sing three songs."  haha, i felt that our reception was supposed to be about us and not to be about showcasing the emcee's galing in singing, in speaking English, or the like.

we did have guests "host" specific parts of the program.  one cousin handled the announcements for the bridal party, another one took on introducing the first dances, and yet another provided background talk while i was throwing my bouquet.  we thought this was a good way to get some of the guests feel really involved.  during dinner, the band provided background music.

and don't laugh, but i couldn't stop thinking about why shangri-la only had room requirements for outdoor receptions.  and i finally thought of a reason that made sense at least to me ;D !  see, i figured if a reception was held on the beach, cocktails in the lobby, or any other outdoor area, your wedding guests will be depriving the checked-in shangri-la guests access to those public spaces.  and since the checked-in guests won't be able to use those areas, then shangri-la would have in turn been deprived of the revenue that otherwise would have been earned (ie, checked-in guests ordering food/drinks).  but aside from that missed revenue, i think it's really more for the benefit of the checked-in guest's comfort and rights.  their nightly rate, after all, should afford them access to the beach, to the lobby, or to any outdoor area.  i think this is a good policy on shangri-la's part with how they look out for the checked-in guests' access to amenities.  i, for one, would certainly be ticked off, if- for three afternoons (in case there are weddings all weekend long) in a row- i can't lounge in the beach area of my choice.  now, if a minimum of 20 of your guests (10 rooms * approximately 2 persons per room)  are staying for the minimum two nights, then i guess shangri-la could manage to turn a blind eye since the public area will be occupied by at least 20 checked-in guests.  they won't necessarily be depriving all of their checked-in guests access to those public spaces.  but now, if your wedding was in a ballroom, then the room requirement does not exist since the ballrooms are not open for public use to begin with.  whew..

k_go, good to hear your wedding is over.  i still remember you from last year when you were beginning to plan your wedding, and i just about finished with mine.  absolutely like that 6:02 PM quip!

fajnadupa, for top three things i wish we could've done differently, i'll give you two:

1.  i would have seriously reconsidered the 2:30 PM ceremony start time.  it was soooooooo hot!  i guess we could've moved it down to about 5:00 PM.  or, to appease my mother who wants a ceremony during the day and not when the sun is about to wane, we could probably have had a morning (9 AM-ish?) ceremony.  we would then have the reception at 5:00 PM.  that would have given the bridal party even more time to take pictures.  and me and my husband would have had time to relax together, cool down, and rest a bit before the reception.

2.  i was very proud of how my gown's bustle looked like during my fittings.  i specifically chose a french bustle over the english bustle.  mine had 10 points where the ties needed to done.  when it came to bustle me up, i told amanda that i needed a particular friend who was with me during my fittings so she can tie up the dress.  but amanda said they also knew how to do that.  i was actually a bit embarrassed that i underestimated her and her team that way.  but as it turns out, i was not bustled properly!  i still cringe everytime i see pictures of the back of my dress, grrrrr..  so what i should've done differently is that i should not have second guessed myself.  i should've dragged my friend over to the bridal room.  i should've realized that it's okay to be demanding and anal on my own wedding day.  ;)

whatkat I didnt get a professional emcee too, my friend hosted the program and then bit of help from my OTD.  buffet ka ba? mine was buffet so we had a trivia game before food, kung sino table first makasagot, first sa buffet. table who answered last got a prize. i think guests enjoyed it. My program was the normal wedding program lang (games for ladies/gents/couple dance and cake-wine ceremony) but I think maganda ang speeches. I could have asked one common friend to do a speech (ay another thing i would have done differently!). Maganda speech ng best man and ng dad ni hubby pero more of about hubby. my mom naman welcome speech lang. gusto ko sana meron din about me (my mom could have done this) plus one more speech na about us/for us talaga so from a common friend na witnessed the start of our story. :)  I think ang speeches ang tumatatak sa mga guests kase few months after the wedding, some guests were still telling me, naaalala pa din daw nila ang sinabi ko nung wedding na its hard to leave home, but my hubby made it all worth it. naiiyak daw sila, malungkot na masaya.

hello ladies.. meron lang akong question regarding invites... i am not sure if this is sort of related on this thread but i am giving it a shot hehe..

do you think it would be tacky and a no-no in etiquette to put in the invitation regarding gifts? i want to know your thoughts... in all honesty, i don't want to look cheap or whatsoever kaya I want to be careful about this but there are some who told me to put it but parang nakakahiya naman diba?! let me know your thoughts on this...

chicgurl we didn't put anything in the invite regarding gifts because in our opinion it's not proper. (although its becoming common in the Philippines).

fajnadupa: church flowers were from a local florist sourced by amanda. i think i paid 15k for it since i requested not to have flowers on the altar as i thought the church was already beautiful as it is, to which im happy about that decision :) i actually sought the opinion of sis imbisibol on this one. :)

shegie_285: thanks so much! i miss it already too! planning to go back soon hahaha! seawind made a really really good job! :)

imbisibol: yepyep, thanks to you!!! all the effort was totally worth it! :)

whatkat: we didn't get a professional emcee/s too! we just asked our friends to do it! everyone actually had so much fun because the hosting was personal and everyone felt so relaxed.. :)

chigurl: we also did not put anything on the invites regarding gifts. our mindset was we invited special people to share our special day with us because we want them to be there and we didn't expect them to give anything as it is their presence that matters. also, i realized that people who really want to give gifts will still do it with or without any gift-related wordings in the invite :)

in all honesty, i don't want to look cheap or whatsoever kaya I want to be careful about this but there are some who told me to put it but parang nakakahiya naman diba?

if you have even the slightest hesitation about putting this in your invitations, then i'd suggest to not do it.  for any facet of our wedding (from colors to appetizers, from suppliers to thank you cards, from soup to nuts), we would not have done or included anything we were only half sure of.

for our destination wedding, we were already expecting that a lot of guests wouldn't be able to come- what with airfare, hotel, time off from work, etc. that they would have to spring for.  to counter this a little, we even thought of putting a line on our invites saying that they don't need to bring us any gifts.  but even that sounded tacky like we were expecting gifts in the first place.  so we put nothing about gifts on our invites.

despite what i've heard about practicality, getting-exactly-what-we-want, i'm still a staunch believer that you don't put anything like that on your invitations.  even those pretty poems nicely and cutely saying that you prefer cash is still tacky to me.  if you get gifts that you don't need or you already have one of, then donate them.  it's not going to be sayang.

@imbisibol_: thank you so much for your input.. then i wont put it & wont put anything in relation to gifts - final! hehe that was what i was thinking, guests will be flying from different parts of the world and just that gesture is a huge effort already..

@k_go: true sis.. thanks! their presence is more than enough nga naman..

i appreciate all the responses.. thank you... :)

@imbisibol - i saw your drink list printout on each guest's plate setting. Was that by shangri-la or by amanda? Did you pay extra for those? Thank you :)

^ i designed and ordered the drink list myself.  there was a vistaprint.com promotion at that time, so we only paid for shipping.  the cards themselves were free :)

Hi everyone! We just had our Boracay wedding three weeks ago but after getting back to reality, I'm still having wedding hangover. ;D Overall, we were very happy on our wedding day :) Wish the best for all soon-to-be Boracay brides here! It will definitely be an unforgettable experience. So far, married life for us just got sweeter.

chicgurl, to help with your questions:

1) I did put a portion on "Gifts" at the bottom of our RSVP card because I was hearing of guests bringing in appliances or asking me if we were enrolled in a bridal registry. We basically wanted to avoid occurring additional expenses in excess baggage or air freight going out of Boracay. Since our wedding was intimate with family, friends, and special guests, I saw it as okay to tell them from our end. Some guests actually thanked us for saying it so they no longer had to bother shopping for gifts. But of course, it depends per guest and how well they know you & vice-versa. We tried not to be too upfront in saying our side, so this is how we said it:
http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp175/kathleenflye/ScreenShot2013-06-22at111546AM.png
We left it to our guests how they would interpret the "small envelope". Some friends wrote letters on small envelopes and I was more than happy to receive those. :)

2) Our event stylist was Badang Rueda from Manila. He's really great and he was able to execute what we imagined. The only downside was the cost - you have to spend for air cargo/shipping of all flowers and props (in and out of Boracay). We didn't expect the latter expense to shoot so high as it was never discussed beforehand and it's on top of what we paid the stylist. The hotel venue usually offers basic styling in their wedding package, so if you would need more elaborate styling, you'll just have to add on to the package. In our case, since we didn't avail of the hotel's styling, the value was converted to free bottles of wine. Amanda's team can do it, too. She's a superwoman so anything you ask (as long as there's still enough time before the big day), she can give you at a reasonable cost.

Good luck and enjoy wedding planning!
