whatkat i opted not too :) but in the info sheet, i was very specific of what I wanted -- no acting shots! Hehe :) Are you getting them also? Which package?  I'm actually considering to add another videographer or get the highlights, but depends if there's extra budget :)

tWicked me too, definitely no acting shots, will probably end up cracking up instead! Not sure about Mayad yet.  If I don't get a coordinator, I might get Bob Nicolas.  Still deciding if a coordinator is needed if Shangrila is supplying an events coordinator anyway. I really want to get Amanda, but she's expensive at 95k for full coordination and 75k for partial!  Imbisibol and other Shangrila Boracay brides, do you think Shangrila's coordinator can handle the on-the-day coordination or a separate coordinator is really needed??

My budget has tripled already!!! Such a domino effect, isn't it! Picture-perfect venue=videographers and photographers=really good HMUA kasi saying naman ng $$ on V&P=sayang naman ng HMUA if dress is so-so only so spend more $$ on dress, and so on! I have to STOP and step back and really reflect on what my non-negotiables are, or it will go out of control!! What are YOUR non-negotiables?

Hi to new Boracay brides! :)

Just reading the thread, i got confused with the term wedding highlights.   anyway, twicked sort of unsolicited advise from me.  For me maganda na may professionally edited video. From my videographer i got a 4-5 minute wedding highlight (which is like an SDE pero not same day, i got it almost 2 months after the wedding. i didn't have SDE) - this video is a must for me because its something that you can share to your friends especially those who couldnt attend and this is the video that i watched everyday (with loads of repeats) for the first two-three months after receiving it. :) Now, i dont watch it anymore unless there are people who ask to see a glimpse of the wedding.  Once in a while my hubby and I watch it. Then i got edited videos for the whole day pero its highlight of every phase of the day, ie 5mins for preparation, 5 minutes for pictorials, 10+ minutes for the ceremony, 10+ minutes for reception and then full lahat ng speeches.   They put background music in the video, I thought this is good too kase ang dali panoorin ng video.  Based from experience , for the wedding of my sister-in-law, 2 hours ang video - super konti ng edit, hubby and I got bored, we didnt finish watching it.  This longer highlight that I got, hindi ko naman masyadong pinanood. It just became handy when some of my guests here in Ireland decided to have a 'picture and video sharing dinner' to relive daw the wedding, Boracay and the Philippines, they couldn't get over how beautiful the whole experience was! :)

whatkat its so easy to blow the budget pero si hubby strict sa budget (hmp!), so Boracay lang talaga ang non-nego namin. :) everything else, reasonable prices lang. :) Photographer - Boracay is perfect, kahit iphone picture lang maganda. Important lang is to choose the style that you and your fiance like. And communicate and list in advance specific shots or poses that you like. nasabi ko ito kase may mga gusto akong shots na hindi ko nacommunicate sa P/V sayang! once in a lifetime pa naman. gusto sana humiga sa sand! hehe.. and i know brides who had the same P/V as i had, mas gusto ko ibang shots nila. :)  kahit hindi masyadong mahal as long as its your style, okay yan :)

i have pala two other non-nego, my Vatel Manila bouquet na iniwan ko lang sa Boracay, im not sentimental kase pero i just wanted to carry a beautiful bouquet on the day. probably doesn't make sense! and second, our give-away from the Cayman Islands na kahit mahal ang courier to Pinas go pa din because we wanted the wedding to be so 'us.'

shegie_285 thanks for the tips re handling the photographers. I'm already saving photos of wedding shots I like  ;)

Same here, shegie_285, I think Boracay is the non-nego for me--still choosing between Shangrila and Asya. Some of the photos and videos I have seen of Asya weddings are really, really nice, while ALL photos and videos of Shangrila weddings are breath-taking. But if I go for Asya, I have more $$ to spend. ::) Any Asya brides out here that can give their honest reviews?

How much was your Vatel Manila bouquet? Did you just bring it with you from Manila or did they deliver it? And do tell about your giveaway...I'm looking for inspirations. T

Cheers!

shegie_25 thanks for the advice.  And don't worry it's not at all unsolicited.  We need more tips from those who have been there already :)

whatkat my non-negotiable is boracay and either Shang or Discovery lang.  If neither of the two, elope na lang!

hi whatkat my coordinators from Manila brought my flowers to Boracay, 3 kilos ata lahat so I paid Php450 for excess baggage sa Cebu Pacific. If you are getting Amanda, less hassle kase Dylan (owner of Vatel Manila) is used to bringing the flowers sa airline company and he said its on Amanda's account na daw.

My give aways are rum cakes from the Cayman Islands kase hubby and I met there. :)  I prefer food kase honestly unless useful ang give-away, feeling ko kalat lang sa bahay.  I thought of coasters, candle holder or wine topper (takip pag pag na-open na bottle) na beach themed kaso useful lang ata ito for foreigner guests. Got these ideas from etsy. I also thought of chocolates from the Philippines and Ireland (hubby's irish), or something from Boracay so souvenir na din. I wanted to give all of them Boracay Starbucks mugs kase i love Starbucks kaso its Php500 per mug!

WARNING:  Long post!  ;D

whatkat, wow, amanda's at PHP 95K now for full coordnation?  that is a lot!

if funds will permit, at the very least, i would still recommend getting an on-the-day package with amanda.  one of the first few questions my shangri-la events coordinator asked me was if i was getting amanda.  it didn't strike me at that time that she was also a "coordinator" and that i maybe wouldn't really need a third party coordinator.  but my suggestion is if you want to use the shangri-la coordinator, be on the safe side, and get in writing all the things you will need her to do.  for example:

1.  months before the wedding, will she bug and bother some of your suppliers that don't reply to your emails as fast as you want them too?

2.  will she handle transportation?  will she schedule which van will go to which hotel to pick up which certain number of guests at which time?  if your entourage is getting ready in shangri-la, will she also schedule the earlier pick up for them?  if you have a church ceremony, will she properly organize transfers to shangri-la so that your 85 guests do not riot and scramble for the vans?  will the transfers be efficient so as to not leave the guests in the sweltering heat for too long?

3.  will she be open to using an outside transportation vendor?  or will she just use the more expensive in-house shangri-la vans?

4.  since you don't want your vendors frazzled, you will want them taken care of properly as well.  will she handle their caticlan/boracay transfers seamlessly?  will she make sure they are checked in at their own hotels and have everything they need?  will she make arrangements for their transportation on the day-of?  will she personally make sure all their meals are delivered and not just give them meal allowance money?  will she inform you if so and so supplier's flight into caticlan is running late?  will she tell you when all suppliers are safely in boracay?  after the event, will your suppliers come up to you and rave about how well they were taken care of?

5.  will she make a time schedule on the day-of which includes what time the make up and hair stylists arrive, what time this bridesmaid or your mother gets started with her make up, and who goes next on the hair stylist's chair after so and so?

6.  will she have a team of several people helping her?  the night before the wedding and you change your mind about seating arrangement for table 10 while you are in station 2 somewhere, will she have a member of that team reach you within minutes and take the scratch paper with changes from you? and on the day of the wedding, will her team be sporting and coordinating with each other using those cool hands-free microphone/headphone thingamajigs?

7.  on the day of your wedding, will she be shadowing your every move from sun-up to sun-down, hand you tissue without you even asking for them, fan you when it gets too hot, hold your lipstick and compact for you, and other whatnots?  will she be able to do the same for the groom?

8.  will she be able to deliver food and drinks to the male and female entourage as they're getting ready on the day-of?  will she be open to sourcing meals outside, or can she only order food in-house?

9.  will she be able to make sure the seating arrangement for the ceremony (church or beach) is followed to a T?  will she be handling the processional line?

10.  during the ceremony, will she be able to cue when so and so music starts or cue lectors/offerers when their time is almost coming up?  most importantly, will she flawlessly cue you as to when you're supposed to make your grandest of entrance?  diva-sounding as it is- this would have been a make or break for me.  if the wrong bridal march song was played or if the church doors were opened a few seconds too early or too late, or if any other little mishap happened- it would have set a sour tone for me for the entire event.

11.  during the reception, will she be able to supervise the flow of the program?  will she make sure the guestbook is passed around at the proper time?  if you have a wishing tree instead, will she guide people to it?  if you have a birdcage for enveloped gifts, will she keep an extra eye out for the cash and checks in it?

12.  for the principal sponsors and parents of the couple, will she give VIP attention and guide them to their seats?  if one of your guests get sick, will she inform you at a proper time without worrying you?  will she tell you that food has already been sent up to that particular guest's room, and that she will continuously monitor how guest is doing?

13.  will she take all wedding paraphernalia (table numbers, place cards, drinks menu, favors, missals, entourage list, pillows, Bible, rings, offerings, etc.) from you and make sure they end up where they're supposed to go?  will she take care of gathering them all back- and together with an itemized listing and all your boxed and enveloped gifts- surrender them all to you after the event?

14.  will she send you your official marriage certificate a couple of months later?

i realize that some couples here are not having a church ceremony, but one of amanda's best benefits was that she was able to handle our marriage license application sans a personal appearance.  being an overseas couple, that alone saved as the cost of two international and domestic round trip tickets- not to mention PTO hours from work.

another benefit we got from her was straightening out the price of shangri-la rooms.  we couldn't reach the 10-room requirement so that guests could get a lower rate.  but we had amanda put it in writing that our guests would still be able to get that lower rate using the local resident rate.  we had a UK citizen whose wife was a UK immigrant, but we finagled their rate down to a local resident rate just the same.

we really didn't want to "talk money" with any of our suppliers.  we had amanda do the dirty work for that.  and being that the reception cost swallows the bulk of the budget, perhaps the coordinator employed by the hotel/resort would not completely have our best pecuniary interests in mind, if you catch my drift.  shangri-la wanted to have a separate (and more expensive) buffet line for kids; amanda talked them out of that.  we didn't feel comfortable with the PHP 800/pax for the cocktails; amanda had them revise the menu and obtained a lower PHP 500/pax rate.

and it's just numbers, and of course it's all relative, but will she exchange 221 emails with you like amanda did with us?  ;D

but of course- numbers don't lie.  if the budget will not permit amanda's services, then treat your shangri-la coordinator well, find out her birthday first and foremost, and send her a nice gift.  ;)  i would've seriously done that had we found ourselves on that road.

imbisibol  SOLD! I'm getting Amanda!  ;D Thanks for helping me decide  ;)

I just got the proposal from Shangrila and there is a minimum room requirement (10 rooms) for beach weddings. So I think that made my decision easier too. I do not want stressing about 9 rooms! It's a shame Shangrila is not flexible especially if a customer is already willing to spend half a million pesos minimum on one night. >:( Sadly, I am letting Shangrila Boracay go and look for another venue. Good thing about it is I have more $$ to spend on other things such as (maybe) Bob Nicolas and an event stylist.  Have you guys seen this: http://nelwinuyphotography.com/mariano-and-celina-boracay-wedding. Such beautiful styling.

shegie_285Thanks for your private message. I can't seem to send private messages.  Vatel Manila sounds good! And good idea about food as tokens. Hmmmm....esep, esep!

imbisibol very comprehensive! you should get commission from Amanda already
From what you've said, I should just directly communicate with her on Discovery concerns.  Right now kasi, I deal with Discovery directly and just cc her.  Para na den masulit ang 95K.

whatkat yes Discovery has room requirements.  It depends on the # of guests.  The more the guests, the more the room requirements.  When I inquired with Shang before, instead of 20 room nights (10 rooms x 2 nights each), they required me 30 room nights because my date is during Peak season.  I can email you DS package.  But sorry jurassic, i don't know how to DM or maybe I'm not yet allowed coz I'm still a newbie?  Send me na lang your email?

can't help but comment on imbisibol_'s no. 10 - wrong bridal march and closed door! the two most important things for me too - two reasons i gave my hubby why I need a coordinator, which he thought were shallow. anyway I was able to convince him to get a coordinator, but for some reasons those two were palpak on my day - un dalawa lang naman. i shared in another forum, most brides would probably have thrown tantrums, or really be annoyed.  dalawang pinaka-importanteng bagay sa umpisa ng wedding di ba tapos fail? i might not be a 'normal' bride because on the day those things didnt really matter. I was so high and happy lang. the coordinator told me they couldnt close the door, i knew i was still smiling when i said okay lang. i didnt know the reason until now why they weren't able to close  the door!  few days after the wedding, pinanood ko ulit ang mga SDE sa HRP, lahat closed door, anyway naisip ko hindi kase sanay ang coordinator ko sa boracay, hindi kase si Amanda. hehe..  so i am sharing this for future brides  (especially sa mga kagaya ko na walang coordinator sa Boracay) kase i know how important that closed door is! :)

And the bridal march - i dont actually know what my bridal march was. I made a joke about it one time, sabi ko i prayed na huwag akong humagulgol sa aisle kase i'm a cry baby.  I didnt cry on the march simply because the first thing that entered my mind was, 'it's not my song.' God answered my prayer nga not to cry, but i should have specified na wag mali ang song. hehe.. Emote pa naman na ako while i was waiting for my turn. i could hear the entourage march from outside the church, kinilabutan na ako.  Anyway, my friend was supposed to sing for the march, he was late. hindi ko naman kayang magalit sa kanya. Oh the reason he was late, he and some of my friends got funny stomach on the day kase they went to a buffet the night before the wedding! :( so beware sa mga buffet dun.

Hello everyone! Yesterday was a milestone because I have finally decided on my first vendor and that lucky person is no other than coordinator-extraordinaire, Amanda Tirol!

shegie_285 omg, they were so lucky you were a bridechilla! Kung bridezilla yun, naku, patay sila! hehe And I LOLed at your bridal march kwento--'it's not my song'.  ;D

imbisibol LOL at your number 3 non-negotiable. Mine is lucky to get included in the top ten! hahaha! I like some of Mayad's videos too and if I can't afford Bob Nicolas, I might get them instead.  Did you get King for yours? And did you get Mayad photographers too? I have yet to see your SDE on your website--I will make sure to watch it later at home.

tWicked Thanks for offer but I got the packages na from DS. They are quite similar in pricing to Shangrila pala. When is your wedding? Are you getting an emcee? If yes, can you please share the contact details.

Btw, I received an email from Shangrila saying the mimimum room requirement is only for beach/outdoor weddings.  imbisibol do you have photos you can share of your indoor reception?

So far the winning (cheapest) venue is Asya with no miminum number of rooms, only a requirement to book the premiere room for extra 2 nights (on top of the free night that comes with their package) Any Asya brides in here to give tips and reviews???

mga sis.. yung mga kinasal sa boracay/phils to a non filipino.. ask ko lang, mas madali ba yung requirements? may sinend sakin si amanda, looks ok naman compare if dito kami sa uae magpapakasal muna then parang dummy na lang yung sa pilipinas. kasi nasa checklist ni amanda yun at hindi pa kami nakakadecide if papa civil na lang muna kami here or wait na lang namin till next year if easier sa pinas gawin lahat ng legal documents. thank you in advance..

chicgurl, my husband is a US citizen.  required documents were easy to gather.  we just scanned and emailed everything to Amanda.  she then applied for the marriage license and also posted our wedding banns.  we also had an option of having a civil wedding first here in the US.  i shot that idea down pretty quickly because i wanted the first feeling of saying "I Do" in the proper Boracay setting that took one year of planning.   our second "I Do" exchange eventually happened 2 months later in NJ with us wearing track pants and ratty shirts. ;)

shegie_285, props to you then!  i would not have been able to live it down if Amanda did not handle my bridal march song and door opening properly.  i would probably have sued her for damages. ;D

twicked, i would continue cc'ing both Discovery and Amanda though.  there'd be a delay if you just deal directly with Amanda and have her deal with Discovery.  Amanda will end up forwarding your same email to Discovery anyway.

whatkat, glad to know you made your decision about Amanda.  before our wedding, i couldn't understand all the hype surrounding her.  but i was pleasantly surprised when i finally met her.  and yes, King was our Mayad director.  though Mayad Photography wasn't launched yet when we were choosing suppliers.

i wonder why Shangri-La only has room requirements for outdoor/beach weddings. ::)  i can't see the logic..

and here's a few images of our indoor reception:  http://reception.EricAndCharie.com

the first image is a layout of the three Sagana ballrooms, the indoor pre-function area, and the outdoor pre-function area.  note that even though the indoor pre-function area only has three sets of double doors (one on each side and one in front), it is completely enclosed in glass.  so you do still get that "outdoor" feeling.

second and third images are of the outdoor pre-function area. though it is on higher ground, it's a bit inland, so no- you don't see the ocean.

fourth image is inside the ballroom.  as you can see, if one still wants that "outdoor" feeling, i guess the drapes could be drawn.  but take into account the ballroom temperature if the afternoon sunlight comes streaming in.  i didn't take a close look, but i would assume these glass walls span from floor to ceiling.

fifth and sixth images were taken in the indoor pre-function area.  it was an oversight on my part to not have insisted that the buffet line not be placed here.

seventh and eighth images are inside the ballroom.

ninth image shows the wall that divided one of the Sagana ballrooms.  we only used two, so a wall had to be put in.  another oversight on my part as i should have insisted they let us use all three ballrooms.  tenth image shows the back wall.  this is where the service and kitchen staff come to and fro from.

that last image, again, was taken in the indoor pre-function area.

enjoy!  i only hope we had all this information when we were planning, grrr.. ;)

imbisibol thank you so much for all the photos and useful info.  The place looked amazing and YOU looked amazing! Your gown is beautiful and I see you are selling it! If I was your height, I would totally consider it;)

Absolutely agree with you about Shangrila's outdoor wedding policy, does not make much sense except maybe they want to contain outside guests as opposed to them being in a public area? Dunno...

I really want a beach ceremony and beach reception. I want to feel the sand in between my toes... I will have to talk to Amanda about outdoor venues.

Speaking of Amanda, I just got an email from her saying she won't be there on my wedding day in June. Do you think this will affect the service on the day much?

Thanks for everything!

Speaking of Amanda, I just got an email from her saying she won't be there on my wedding day in June. Do you think this will affect the service on the day much?

uh-oh- if i were left holding that bag, i would drop it like it's hot.

not to take anything away from Amanda's team members as they did a great supporting role during our wedding.  but one is paying for Amanda's organization skills, her charisma with people, and her drive.  if something goes wrong or there's a crisis, it's her experience, her abilidad, and quick thinking that should be ready, front, and center.  if she won't be there on the wedding day, i would certainly rethink the situation.

going into it, i thought we were paying Amanda more for her planning assistance.  but anybody can plan.  so coming out of it, i realized we also paid a bulk for her experience and expertise.  her presence was like both a reassurance that she had everything down pat and an insurance that if not- then she would still be able to take care of it.

i have to tell you though- Amanda was not able to meet with us on the day we arrived in Boracay.  this was two days before our wedding.  i almost had a heart attack and stroke in tandem.  but she assured me she would be with us the day before the wedding and of course- on the day itself.

but of course-  it will be your choice where you want to go.  but do not second guess yourself.  go where your gut points you to.  good luck!

whatkat, yep only the beach or garden reception require 10rooms in shangri-la. and yes, only the full-coordination (95k) or partial (75k) of Amanda's packages that she will be there on the day. mine & h2b's decision was allocate the 95k from wedding coordinator to 3 rooms in shang. that way, we will also be able to tick off the item in our bucket list of dream family vacation. yay!

imbisibol - thanks for the details to watch out

imbisibol & shegie - what are the top 3 things you wished have done differently?

shegie_285 - how did you handle your marriage license? you went for personal appearance at ur municipality?

thanks ladies!
