imbisibol_ : I thought so too :) But I think the wedding highlights would be a little more comprehensive in terms of coverage (til reception) and in the sense na mas pinag-isipan.  I'm assuming kasi that it will be turned over after the wedding.  Unlike the SDE na on the day itself ang editing and turnover.  Mejo
vague den sya sa akin.  But since ganon na nga and may SDE nanaman, i will not avail of the Wedding Highlights na :)

chicgurl i didnt ask my guests for feedback sa la carmela, sila naman pumili.  but i will say your guests are extremely lucky kung kayo magbabayad ng accommodation. :) kung ako kahit la carmela pa yan, i'd be grateful. :)  pero of course you have to cater to the guests, like my foreigner guests, they asked me for recommendation for 'basic accommodation', i was like uhm the basic in the Philippines is not as nice as the basic here. :)

^ sis my fiance kasi wants to do it he wants to pay for it.. ewan ko ba dito ano nakain hehe at gusto bayaran lahat ng guests accommodation. his family & friends from overseas gusto niya naka villa sabi ko goodluck talaga sa gastos hehe.. oo noh kahit la carmela kahit ako din yung guest aarte pa ba ako diba? buti nga invited ako eh hehe.. korek yung iba foreign friends nag aask din ng basic place to stay sabi ko basic is basic like fan and all lol pero in my honest opinion Boracay, to me, is as much about the partying, the fun, and the beautiful beaches as it is the people not the flashy hotel.. pero it's nice naman nga talaga to stay in a flashy hotel pero yun lang kasi you need to enjoy the island itself.. sorry magulo ba.. anyway dipa din ako nakakadecide i am still slacking hehe bahala na si batman este si amanda hehe...

Hi ladies, I am now a month and 6 days married and slacking at this stage, haven't sent out thank you cards yet! Working on it along with bunch of other stuff. Let me tell you that the moment i set foot on that plane to Boracay, things went haywire! We can only laugh about it now but it wasn't fun then! The weather wasn't too good that week, planes can't even land and have to re-route to IloIlo and or Manila type of thing and guests were in horror delays. But I can say that "the day" was magical and the whole Boracay experience was one to remember not only for us but for everyone else! Had a good team running the show and I was a happy bride. :D

mystify why the sad face? dreams come true, so you're doing just fine.  ;)

chicgurl if you can afford to give your guests accommodation you should do it and that would be a fantastic treat for the guests - however not necessary. I paid for a selected few with reasonable circumstances and that's about it. We have been to weddings in other parts of the world and didn't expect accommodation to be provided. We went because we wanted to witness and be part of the two people who was wonderful enough to invite us to be there and it was a good excuse to travel and have a holiday. Just like attending a wedding in Boracay is already a double treat!  :D

tWicked, i almost fell off my chair - checked Mayad's website and it's not funny for me! Almost 50% off to what they have priced me for last year! You're lucky and so are the other Mayad brides!!

To all Amanda brides, I didn't have a single skype, viber, YM, phone call during the preparation stage. Puro lang emails. But sat with her to go through final details when in Boracay. ;)

sandd hi sis! :) omg, i still have some thank you cards for pinas people and 2 for irish people!

chicgurl i understand what you mean. i think there are holidays where you want to stay in a nice hotel and its part of the holiday but boracay is probably not one of those, especially if you dont have the budget. first time i was there with hubby we stayed in a basic hotel but it didn't matter, he still fell in love with Boracay, and that's why we decided to get married there (and it caters the young, the oldies, the kids, the single, the married, family, everyone!). actually as long as the bed is comfortable bed and nice toilet, hindi na magreklamo guest. actually one of our guests, friend of my MIL, complained na his breakfast was always wrong daw, pero everyone just laughed and made fun out of it. my foreigner guests just raved about the place everyday, they thought it was paradise, kept on asking me how could i leave daw such a nice country. they were so grateful that they were invited and that they had the opportunity to go to the Philippines. :) everyone had a great time!

Hello everyone!!!

After lurking and reading every word on this thread and the original Boracay thread, I have decided I want to be a Boracay bride too! I could feel excitement from every post! Nakakahawa!

Imbisibol your wedding site is so comprehensive! Galing! We are leaning towards having the ceremony and reception at Shangrila Boracay.I have a couple of questions that I hope you don't mind answering:

1. We haven't been to Shagrila Boracay-- being the party is allowed until midnight, is there anywhere (bar, resto) out of Shang but nearby that we can all move to? (Thinking of having transportation on standby)

2.  Ive read you had your after party in your suite-- was this all good with management? And how many after-partygoers can the suite accommodate?

3. How bad was your damage for the bar? Did you get Shang's open bar package? We will have lots of Aussie guests so that's a bit of a concern as these people can drink us to poverty! Lol!

That's it (for now hehe) thank you or as I've learned here, TIA!  :)

whatkat, you can't go wrong with shangri-la.  and no problem with your questions.  i still love talking wedding-speak. ;)

1.  if you want, you can move your party to solana lounge which is situated by the cliffs area.  you won't clearly be able to see the ocean when it gets the dark, but the atmosphere there will still be priceless.  in my opinion, i wouldn't bring the party outside shangri-la because the wait for the vans, the 15 minute ride to town, and then the wait to be seated at another place might  douse the party mood.

2.  we had our after-party in a 2 bedroom villa.  we didn't hear anything from management.  we purposely requested for villa #12 because it was at the farthest end of the resort (by Chi Spa).  i think villa #11 was empty so we really had no neighbors.  and unlike other 2 bedroom villas closer to the public pools which was inland and did not have an ocean view, villa #12 was situated high so we shared the same water view that presidential villa #10 had- for a fraction of the price!  villa #12 was huge with two separate "buildings".  the first had the living room and the bedroom with two double beds.  the other building was just for the master bedroom.  and the pool in this villa was not some rinky dink "plunge" pool.  one could actually do laps.  there's a covered outdoor dining area, another outdoor shower area, and two loungers in their separate area that look out to the ocean.  i can't do approximations too well, but i would guess it would not be hard to fit 50 people in this villa.

3.  we opened a tab with the bar for a few hours.  we had requested that when the tab reached PHP 85,000 net, that it be closed.  by the time it closed, it was well after dinner.  but then, we still had complimentary water and red/white wine the whole night.  wine was brought in from ralph's liquor.  we could not afford a real open bar package; it was too prohibitive.

another plus with having the after-party in our villa was amanda had previously smuggled in caseloads of san miguel pale and light.  our butler made sure they were chilled for the after-party.  left over wine bottles from the reception were also brought back to the villa.  if you favor hard liquor, then amanda can bring those in too.  and the best part is if you don't open some bottles, she can return those to ralph's liquors for a refund.

sandd, nice to see you out here again.  i myself only had a grand total of one phone call to amanda during our preps.  would-be brides, please note- amanda will not gush with you about your wedding plans.  she will not shriek in delight with your plans for the centerpiece.  what she will be is she will be professional to the utmost and will deliver what you need.  i was a bit put off with that one phone conversation i had with her because she sounded really business-like.  but i came to realize afterwards that that was what we needed anyway.  we didn't need a friend or a supplier to call "ate".  we needed someone that knew what she was doing and delivered, period.

mystify, that's how we started ours as well- with dreaming!  count your pennies, move back the wedding date if you have to, and scale down on the guests- it can happen.  it did to us.  :)

imbisibol, thank you for your response especially regarding the villa! It sounds huge! Will definitely book the same one  :) Sounds like Amanda is a requirement to a successful Boracay wedding. She is expensive though....konti na lang videographer na!  :o We are just having a beach ceremony so no church prep and coordinating, no rehearsals, I'm pretty set as to who to get as suppliers, so I'm still deciding if it's worth getting her. I like that she is cool enough to smuggle you liquor though. Do you think you could have done that without her?

Is Solana open after midnight? My guests will be totally cool about moving after midnight if it means partying longer  ;) im also thinking that we can all move when we've reached the bar tab and the dj has stopped playing. Is there a nice place near Shang that does live bands?

Thanks again :)

Hi All,

Joining the ride of boracay wedding. :) We will be having the event on Nov4. :) Holy Rosary church for the ceremony & Shangri-la for reception. Done with the food tasting & Fr. Edwin's canonical interview. Contacted Kuya Bobby of the church choir as well. Got my wedding gown also already. :)

whatkat, I didn't get Amanda coz she is quite expensive, and may not be worth it for me coz I have contacted already all suppliers. I was planning of not getting coordinator as I got inspired by a friend who was able to pull off Shangri-la Boracay wedding without coordinator. :) Though her ceremony was at Shangri-la also. And as got feedback from shegie_285 that no church contact on her day, I tried to find other cheaper coordinator in Boracay. Bells & Blooms OTD is same rate as Amanda. I'll try the (BRWEC) Boracay Resident Wedding & Events Coordinator. I'll share feedback once event is done. :)

chicgurl, we will be paying couple of nights for few friends & relatives. We booked Blue Waves & MR Holidays. We got good discount. I truly recommend it if paying for guests coz they are cheap, very good location in station 1 & beach front. Both are also very small (Blue Waves has 5 rooms), so if we book all 5, it is like we can have own chillax party at the front of the hotel. We tested it & stayed there last Feb. Look for Ms. Alona.

For who haven't got their wedding gowns, I truly recommend that go to as many bridal shops as you can. :) In this way, you will be able to see what suits you well -- ball gown, A-line, mermaid style, tube, goddess type, halter, tulle material or satin material. Even if you got your own couturier, just try the dresses around. It's fun! It can be bonding moments as well with your mom or best friend.

cheers!

fajnadupa hello fellow Shang Boracay bride-to-be! Very interested to know how your friend pulled off her Shangrila Boracay wedding without hiring a coordinator. We're also having a beach ceremony on site. Re wedding dresses, I thought getting a dress made in the Philippines was going to be cheap  but it's SO not so I might just get one from here (Aus). What style have you chosen? :)

Hi ladies, parang hindi naman kamahalan yung nakuha ko kay Mayad :) although, we opted for the simple package na SDE with 2 videographers. All in all 75K lang.. If u want to add wedding highlights additional 20-30K ata. So pwede na dn. No flights, OOT fees coz King is based in Boracay na.

I would have wanted Bob Nicolas but sooooo expensive. Anyways, ok na si Mayad.

Re: guests flights and accomodoation, dedma. Haha! Matanda na sila, kaya na nila... And wala naman reklamo ang iba.. At least wala pa ako naririnig.

tWicked, bakit ang mura ni Mayad. I inquired last month lang and the cheapest is 130k, I'll have 3 options daw for the Director and depending on the Director the price will range from 130k-160k. If that's the case then I have to inquire regarding their boaracay package, and sde in bora might be cheaper ;)

c_a_k_e Mayad has this 'Simple Options' package where one can choose one, two or three videographers and then choose an output (SDE,Wedding Highlights). I think the 75k is for two videographers and SDE. Email them for their packages-- I found them quick to reply.

twicked I want Bob Nicolas too-- he is so good! Every second of his film has impact! But he is soo expensive so have to settle for Mayad na din. You think if we say to Mayad we like Bob Nicolas' style, they wont get offended and they'll get the hint to sorta 'copy' the style? (A bit cheeky, I know  ;D )

whatkat, sorry, but i'm useless with tips on places outside shangri-la with live bands, etc.  and about bringing in beer and liquor inside the villa yourselves, i guess you could do it a few bottles at a time.

nice that mayad's packages are evolving.  i asked in 2011 if they can just provide an SDE for us, and they flatly said no, hmp.  >:(

whatkat, do you have a date already? i got Camille as my events coordinator in shang. I personally chose her, am her first wedding event actually, but I felt more accommodated with her. She is easy to talk to & will try her best to have win-win situation on requests.

fajnadupa no date yet but it's looking like its gonna be early June. I know it's the start of the rainy season, but it can't be that bad yet, right? right?  :) I've been corresponding with Camille too but she has said on her last email that a Suzenne will be my point of contact from then on. I still have to receive the formal proposal but I'm already excited! Still unsure about Amanda (coordinator) -- I've emailed her a couple of times but still no response from her...which makes me more unsure!
