Let's talk about Pots and Pans
« on: January 03, 2013, 02:45:56 pm »
Hello all...

As a newbie cooking enthusiast, I've been rounding up the net on what brands of pots and pans are recommended. I've read di daw maganda aluminum which are being sold in SM stores.

I only know Tefal, but how about if you opt not to use teflon/ non-stick pots and pans? Any recos?

I've also been looking for a nice wok.

Been to MK in Pioneer St., madami sila mga tinda, but im so clueless of what to buy.

WOuld gladly appreciate your inputs. :D THanks!

I have long stopped using teflon coated pans.
what i use now is stainless steel and tempered glass. the stainless steel i bought as a set, which i now regret since i dont use most of the pieces, the glass pots/pans was given to me by my cousin. i find that tempered glass cookware heats easily on the stove, so dapat bantayan mabuti kasi madali masunog, and dumidikit ang food at the bottom in the process. but i still like using it.

Ok naman the brand that i bought, good price for several pieces, but if i have the money now, i would change all my cookware and would opt to buy all-clad and Le creuset but its not really advisable to use the later on glass stove tops. or atleast try out mid-range price brands like cuisinart or henckles. I saw that a lot of celebrity cooks have their own line of cookware like rachel ray, jamie oliver, wolfgang puck, martha stewart, gordon ramsey, etc. i have seen that of rachel ray and manipis lang but maganda ang outside color of the pans.

they say that salad master is a good brand by which i agree to, but its extremely expensive and not available commercially.

essentially, you would need a good skillet, maybe a combination of 6pcs of different kinds and sizes will be good enough. i ended up with lots of cookware that was given to me or i bought out of a whim, yung iba tinapon ko na specially the teflons.

The brand is Carrera, bought is 2 yr ago and its a 10pc set. i also got a big pot free with my purchase which i have not used yet. the reason why i stopped using tefon, kahit na gaano pa kaganda and kamahal, it that overtime, no matter how much you care for it, the teflon coating nababakbak.

I live abroad sis, so ang daming pagpipilian talaga. got the set on sale and its a good price, makapal yung pots/pans, pero sabi ko nga, if i have the money, i would like to buy talaga all-clad, or kahit other mid-range brand na maganda naman ang quality.

invest in good quality cookware, kahit mahal kasi it would last you a long time. i know the set im using would last me over 5yrs, pero [textspeak!] by that time, papalitan ko na din lahat.

check online for reviews.

I have a Le Creuset cast-iron skillet and I love it! Hindi nagagasgas and it's nonstick. Also, the food cooks faster. Parang it retains heat more than the average steel/copper pans.

May kamahalan lang sya, maybe 2 or 3x more than the average teflon-coated pans pero it will also last a lifetime. Yung mga teflon ko, on average 1 year lang lifespan tapos pangit na gamitin.

Pots and Pans cleaning 101
« Reply #5 on: January 10, 2013, 04:47:24 pm »
I have recently made a career...tipong career kung career maglinis in the kitchen...hahahhaha

I have tired the baking soda trick and it works heavenly on stainless pots...

The white vinegar and water on kettles so remove calcium deposits....as in!

But im currently in the look for a good de-greaser para sa pwet ng kawali namin....i have tried both baking soda and the ash to remove...ayaw eh...andun pa rin ang gunk and grease build up

I have read about ammonia...but i have never encountered or seen it here sa philippines in the gerocery or harware. Kaya im turning to a good de-greaser? Bt where to buy?

Help!

if purchasing stainless steel pans and pots, get those with heavy bottoms. As they have a thicker coating, heat is distributed more evenly and I find food does not stick as much (of course you will need to use oil).

we used to use mixed between stainless and teflon, but had since stopped using teflon and trying ceramic. The stainless ones have been sturdy through time.

saw 10pc t-fal stainless steel on sale for less than 200$, same with henckles. mura na yan for a mid-range brand.

we use ceramic pans, so far so good naman :) just can't use metal utensils. we hardly use cooking oil and the food doesn't stick to the pan unlike other teflon pans after some time.

I'm phasing out my non-stick pans (Teflon) and shifting to Jami Oliver's stainless steel pots and pans (also by Tefal but no Teflon coating).IN the long run nagfe-flake kasi no matter gaano kaingat sa gamit at hugas ang Teflon coating.

Does gourdos carry le creuset cookware, i dont want the entire set kasi. Some keypieces only. I saw an online seller but its an entire. Plus i dont want to splurge 50k for the set naman.

I have been making parinig to my sister about them but I know theyre heavy so if I could buy them locally better diba.

^ i like the stainless ng sunnex and the tristan (by sunnex) looks very sturdy...and holds heat very well....but choose the stainless of sunnex na stainless bolted handles not the plastic ones...
the sunnex stainless are  better than wolfgang stainless pots kasi manipis lang kay wolfgang parang magdedent agad kapag nahulog...mga pots ata ng sm sale ngayon...

i forgot the brand ng german na stainless din...saw this at shopwise

tefal has good stainless din....may gusto akong wok na stainless nila...kaso mahal kaya pa kapag sale na..
