Solo Travel (Thread 3)

Has anybody travelled solo to Guam? I want to go somewhere this Easter and it has to be in a safe place where I haven't been to yet.

Haven't been to Guam.

Why not try Vietnam? It's safe and affordable there. Though transportation fares will set you back a bit.

Nope, it is quite safe. I met a solo traveler from the Netherlands on our way to the Cu Chi Tunnels near Ho Chi Minh (a 3++ hour ride), she loves Vietnam. She's been to Hanoi before going to Ho Chi Minh and told me wonderful stories. She's a solo backpacker by the way, so she has this big North Face bag with all her stuff in it.

I still haven't done this haha. Andami kong plans before. For me though kasi, since I have limited VLs, nanghihinayang ako to travel to places na hindi ko naman talaga gusto puntahan. And if I'm going to travel somewhere, I want to share the experience with people I love, who also would love the experience.

Of course it's nice to trave and experience things with the people you love, but Iba pa din ang experience pag solo travel.

I just realized, pag solo ako sa trips ako, i feel fearless, lol. Itatry ko lahat kahit buwis buhay pa yan. Hindi ako nahihiya magtanong, di ak takot maligaw. In my head it's all part of the adventure. Nakikipagusap ako sa strangers, sa mga travellers na iba. When i have company, mas gusto ko sila ang maglead nung trip. Mas nahihiya ako magtanong tanong around, pag may kelangan hanapin sunod lang ako sa kanila. Haha. Nahihiya ako makipagusap sa ibang tao. Mas kinakabahan ako to try ng mga bago adventures. Ewan ko ba. That's just me. Kaya siguro challenge na rin sa sarili ko na magsolo travel ako.

I've actually somehow done this! Though business trip talaga, but I extended pero alone ako. But it was a familiar place na, since I've been to Singapore many times. Still got lost though, and I really went around alone. Enjoyed it! I really like sticking to my schedule and sticking to what I like, kaya it's very convenient for me to be alone on a trip. I don't have to argue with anyone whether we should visit this or that. I decide for my own!

I know it's pretty corny, but I love Singapore and for those who would like to try out solo traveling (but in the city), try Singapore!

On the contrary, I think Vietnam is a safe country for solo female traveler.
I did it last year. HCMC + Muine. And then my friends arrived and then we went to Cambodia.

I find Vietnamese people very nice and helpful! What they lack in english language they more than doubled it with their willingness to help. I should know! Me and my stupid mistake in Muine. I just love how simple they are. Men in business suits eating/drinking along sidewalks and how they enjoy playing sports in their park. IMO lang.

The park near Ben Tanh where kids and yuppies would play this kick ball and other sports. Nakakatuwa!

Finally I did this!

Malaysia-SG pero bitin pala 2 days sa SG. Dami ko gusto puntahan pero wala ng time. Soul searching sana ako kaso naiwan ko yong soul ko doon LOL. I need to go back! Yong USS ko bitin na bitin kasi may iba akong itinerary so I have to leave before 5.

I never got lost, the transportation system is superb. Lahat nakalink sa train/bus stations. Sana ganun din ang Pinas. At ang daming pinoy sa SG, minsan sa kanila ako nagpapapicture.

project ko to next year. travel alone,though takot ako but lakasan ng loob lang seguro.ask ko lang if mas magastos ba pag solo traveler ka lang?or mas practical.

^Depende eh. Kung mag DIY backpacking ka kayang mas tipid. Andyou can always join other solo backpackers naman to cut costs on tours. Yung una kong solo travel, went to ilocos and ~10k nagastos ko all in. Normally may mga group tours to ilocos na 3-5k lang per person, exclusve amg food.

Fix your schedule, set goals for your next destination, save money and research extensively. =D

Gusto ko to ulit ma-experience before ako ikasal. Ayaw ako payagan ni h2b. Papayag daw siya dito lang sa malapit. Eh gusto ko yun malayo, yun may plane or matagal na land travel.

Ho Chi Minh is a great place to do solo travel kasi ang dami namen nakitang expat na solo backpackers. =)

Mababait ang mga tao and they'll go out of their way to really help you. There were some vendors who were even shy to sell us their wares.

Any recommendations for Visa countries na good for solo travel?

EDIT: Okay this just happened. Booked a solo trip to Seoul for the winter, Feb 7-11. Airfare was 9k thru AirAsia. Single room was 5.5k for 4 nights in Myeongdong. Not going shopping, hehe. My friend will be helping me get a visa since I am busy and can't do a personal appearance, they have a travel agency. Excited!
