^yan din ang nasa bubble thought ko sis when she was telling us her story.  actually medyo dyahe pa sya ikwento, kundi pa nadulas yung isang barkada namin about it, silang dalawa lang ang nakakaalam.  and also the reason why i started my post describing her as "naive sa cc".

^ on another thought,

she might want to consult a lawyer or someone expert with the law for any possibility na makasuhan nya ang bank.

^ I'm curious, which debit cards do you have which are not accepted by airlines?

Kasi I've read from others na nagwork ang debit card nila. Have you tried BPI myePrepaid (Mastercard)? Unionbank EON (VISA)? How about Smart Money (Mastercard)? Those cards are often accepted as payments in the internet and are also used internationally.

Not to discourage you though. It's difficult to get a CC, not all banks are willing to give anybody one. Yung mga two years na employed sa work nahihirapan pa, it will be more difficult for you na naka-one year sa work.

Unless... you apply for a secured CC - which requires you to deposit an amount, and depending on the bank, they give you a percentage (usually from 50% to 80%) of that deposit as your credit limit. Kumbaga yung deposit mo serves as a collateral because your income doesn't justify yet your capability for credit. Still, even if you are willing to give a deposit not all banks (except RCBC, I heard) are willing to approve your secured CC. Also, not all banks would really approve giving you a regular CC even after paying the secured CC bill on time.

If your purpose for getting a CC is for emergency purposes, I strongly recommend not using a CC to borrow funds but instead save for an emergency fund instead in a savings or time deposit account. Mahal ang interest ng CC if you aren't able to pay in full on time tapos emergency pa. Here's the thread about that: http://www.femalenetwork.com/girltalk/index.php/topic,232123.0.html

But still, you might have the wrong debit card in the first place, kaya ka di makabili online. I suggest checking out the three cards above.

^sorry sis i deleted my initial post, balak ko sana i modify.  hehe! ;D but thanks for your reply! i have a bpi debit card, hindi siya tinatanggap ng cebu pac website when tried it. i had to pay over the counter pa whenever i purchase plane tickets. i was interested to get a bdo shopmore cc sana since meet ko naman yung annual salary requirement, although yun nga 1 yr pa lang ako sa present company ko. i've also checked bpi myPrepaid mastercard and baka yun na nga lang kukunin ko ;)

^ ah, which debit card ng BPI? they have two AFAIK. siguro ang hawak mo ay yung BPI express cash card na mastercard electronic - very limited lang yun and you can't really use it for online payments.

The new BPI myeprepaid is a better card and is widely accepted online and internationally. I've read a lot of positive stories from users that they had used the card to book airline tickets. They either don't qualify for a CC or they just choose not to own CC anymore because they got hurt using these.

It's not a bad idea rin to try sa BDO to apply a CC, since you already have an account with them. Baka sakali pagbigyan ka though chances are slim.

^thanks for your input sis, i've sent an online application na to bpi for the prepaid card. i will be able to get it daw in 5 banking days. maybe i'd postpone getting a cc nalang muna since i don't badly need it, sayang din babayaran ko for the fees . ;)

^ I agree the yearly fees of CCs are a headache. If you want to waive them, you have to spend more.  :P

Pwede palang online application sa myeprepaid! Thanks for the update sis!

Then nabayaran na rin nya yung minimum muna for the first month. TIA!

ganun talaga sis. settle the full amount then request for a reversal of the overlimit fee. icke-credit naman yun pabalik sa card if the decision is in your favor. otherwise, cut the card na lang for bad service. i had my hsbc cut 3 years ago na yata dahil sa unfair charge din.

nagtataka lang ako kasi with other banks naman pwede mo makita yun breakdown ng transactions as long as napost na sya e. ganun ba talaga yun sa EW?  :-\

mga sis, i have a question, kasi nagcash out ako using east west credit card sa bpi atm machine. when i was there, yung unang napindot kong option is yung "fastcash". naglabas sya ng receipt pero walang pera na lumabas, i've waited 2 mins til i decided na "withdraw" option yung gamitin ko, then ayun, naglabas na sya ng pera with receipt din. do you think machacharge din ako sa first attempt ko na "fastcash" ang gamit ko? sana ma-gets nyo. :) TIA!

Re: Online Shopping : Banks usually raise red flags if you go online shopping. Si hubby may binibili online tapos nung check out na
declined yung payment niya, ayaw pumasok. After a few minutes nag ring phone niya ang tinatanong kung may certain transaction siya online.
After na confirm, approved na yung payment. Then ako naman, may binibigay na code yung bank, so pag nag check out na ako, usually may pop-up from the bank

I think 3 yrs narin yung BPI ko.
