Just returned last weekend from our mini getaway and we're two shades darker!
Hubby and I loved BKK except for the weather (december might be a good time to visit). Thankful for all the info and tips given here, they were a big help!
Took CebuPac's red eye flight (on time
) and arrived at the airport around 12am BKK time. Immigration was packed and it took so long for the baggage to arrive. Took an airport taxi to Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn area and paid 400B including toll fees. Travel time is 30mins. We love everything in this hotel, reasonable for the price we paid.
We needed to adjust our itinerary for the first day since we slept at already 4am. We started the day at 10am and left the hotel around noon time for our DIY tours of the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha, and W*t Pho via BTS and ferry. Should have visited other temples like Trimit and Vimanmek Mansion, but too tired and exhausted from the afternoon's heat. We had to go back via taxi to our hotel to prep for the river
Princess Cruise.
Second day was spent at Damnoen floating market and Elephant Village. I just booked for the floating market for the half day tour not knowing that we will still pass by the Elephant Village. Since we are already there, we paid 600B each for the 30mins elephant ride. Worth an experience I must say. After this the tour continued and we were brought to the cobra show. Only a few joined here, we stayed in the van instead. After the tour, we headed for lunch and a much needed massage. Went back to the hotel and prepped up for Siam Niramit show. Its a plus that they offer free shuttle service to and from the MRT. Worth the price for both superb show and dinner.
Third day was spent in beautiful Ayutthaya. We joined the River Sun Cruise, coach to and river cruise back to Bkk including buffet lunch. First stop is the Bang Pa In Summer Palace then the ruins of Ayutthaya. I would highly recommend this tour. Gave our tour guide, Mr. Pon, a well-deserved tip. Since its still early to go back to the hotel, we headed to the grandiose W*t Arun. Nighttime was spent in Baiyoke Sky Hotel for dinner at Crystal Grill. Observation Deck at the 84th floor should not be missed. Nightcap at the Sky Bar, The Dome at Lebua Tower by 11pm. Such stunning place, but the waitstaff are a bit strict with regards to taking photos. They don't allow picture taking anywhere you please. Drinks like beer at 300B and up while cocktails are at 500B and up.
Visited Jim Thompson Museum on our fourth day. We love this place, its so relaxing and a must see for first time visitors. The 100B entrance fee comes with a guided tour. I bought several tom yum peanuts from their store to give away and bought more at the airport, taste so good plus nice pa the packaging. From here, we hired a tuk tuk for the first time, paid 60B to Siam Paragon. Okay na rin for experience. Had lunch at Siam Paragon food court. Pls take note of your card balance, sayang we forgot to get our refund. Went mall hopping the whole afternoon before taking our time at Platinum Mall. Next is grocery shopping at Big C where we bought our pasalubong for family and friends. Had to buy cooked food from here too, for dinner. By 10pm we were at Asiatique. Taxi fare came to only 50B from our hotel. By 12 am were back to our hotel.
We checked out from the hotel before noon and left our luggage since our flight back to Manila is scheduled at midnight. Went to Silom Galleria/Jewelry Trade Center before going to Terminal 21. Spent a few hours in this mall, my teenage daughter would love to hang around here for sure. By late afternoon we went to MBK for souvenirs. Good quality shirts are priced at 99B only. Snacks are cheaper compared to Big C and Tops supermarkets. By 9pm we were already at the airport only to find out that our flight is delayed by an hour and a half.
We missed some interesting places like Trimit and Marble temples, Vimanmek Mansion, and Khao San Road. We had a good BKK trip and would love to come back in maybe two years time around the cooler months of december to february.
