pay is higher in vancouver bec cost of living there is also very high specially if you live int he city.

not quite.  for example: an admin job in vancouver usually starts at 10.25/hr or a bit higher and the same job in calgary that pays $15 or higher. cost of living in vancouver is way higher.

I got a job offer for a hospital in Vancouver. Pay is definitely better than what I get here in Atlanta but I'm not sure if the move is worth it. I've already settled here in georgia pero the opportunity that Canada is giving me is keeping me up all night.

what is the average salary for newly immigrated Filipinos in Vancouver? It's so hard to find out what's a fair salary compared to others who live here or even immigrants but they're from the US. UK or Oz.

That depends on what job you're eyeing for. basic salary here is 10.25/hr. Tax is 12%.

The workshop I was referring to is only here in [British columbiaI am not sure of other provinces if they have such programs. It is for new immigrants and and immigrants living here in british columbia for maximum of 5years. they'll try to bridge whatever your education and experience back in your home country and the direction you want to take here.

My cousin who lives in Manitoba said it's gonna be about the same here in ATL. Tax here is 7%, even 6% on some counties. And are there a lot of pinoys in Vancouver? Im sorry pero I tend to stay away from cities with a lot of pinoys, the mentality is just plain crazy! Pero the salary naman kasi and the benefits..

To add: Oh, manitoba cousin mo--5% lang ang tax dun. But i don't think you will like it there. Between manitoba and vancouver--vancouver is way mas maganda. yun nga lang mas mahal.

I currently live in British Columbia right now been living here for almost 2 years already!

And yeah, I totally agree with the mentality of having a lot of Pinoys in one area. I just hang out with a few chosen friends.

Me and my family are here in Greenfield Park, QC, just outside Montreal. Weather is crazy with the cold snap that we're currently experiencing. Tax here is 15%. We go to a Filipino Catholic community church every Sunday but like what some of you mentioned, the Pinoy mentality is something that I can't really understand. We have friends but quite a few. It's sad to hear, but it's really hard to trust Pinoys abroad and we were also warned about that by our friends here.

I almost got sucked into that when I first arrived here. My relatives tried to get me to join these groups and I just politely declined all of them and moved out as soon as I could afford to. I started out by renting a room in my tita's place in the suburbs... I know they mean well, but it's just not my thing. I still see them from time to time though because nakaka-miss din sometimes

But now I'm living in the city and I love it! I have no regrets in moving here.

^Right sis nakaka-miss din talaga to see Pinoys in your neighborhood. Pero kasi yung community talaga sa Montreal medyo di ko gusto yung lugar. I'd rather see them every Sunday na lang when we go to church since yung Catholic church dun eh Pinoy talaga and run by a Filipino priest. And also, pag namimili sa Asian store.

OO nga daw ganyan din sabi ng ate ko, kakaiba daw ugali ng ibang pinoy, kaya ate ko madalang sumama sa mga pinoy gatherings, puro ibang lahi kasama nya. Nakaka dala daw makisama sa mga pinoy. As much as possible stay away from pinoys yun lagi nya sinasabi samin.

It's really sad pero bakit nga ba ganon mga pinoy....di ko maipaliwanag kung bakit once makapag-abroad nag-iiba talaga ugali. Lagi ko ngang naiisip pare-pareho lang naman tayo dito kung di mag-trabaho walang makakain. Bakit kelangan mag-down ng kapwa pinoy. Nakakawala talaga ng tiwala. So sad!

Looking apartments na for our move. I accepted the job and now in the process of getting all of our things together. I want a townhouse sana with a small yard, for the dog. My hubby is also in the process of having his job transfered there. Buti nalang at may office sila sa Vancouver. So excited. Hopefully before summer eh settled na kami.

sis lonelymiss, yung iba nga dyan feeling know it all pa, feeling ang taas-taas na. Just seldom maka meet ng pinoy na grounded, though succesful na, mostly mayabang. Irritating lang talaga na ugali ng pinoy is yung ang hilig nila sa chismis at of course maki pag compete sa isa't isa.

its funny when we say  ang pinoy pag nag abroad karamihan nag iiba ang ugali ( or something to that effect). so ibig ba sabihin somewhere along this journey, mag iiba din ba ugali natin? huwag nyo ako batuhin ha. yes, i have met pinoys na somehow iba ang ihip ng hangin, meron din naman na mababait. i dont have a whole lot of pinoy friends here, but i have made good acquaintances naman. still, ang chismoso/chismosa, yung mahilig mag compete, inggit, etc present din yan sa ibang ng lahi. my chinese former neighbor nga sabi naman ayaw nya friends/kapitbahay ka-lahi nya bec of the same reasons. yan din sabi ng indian na co-worker ko.

I would say yes. When I first got there in atlanta, very eager ako magkaroon ng pinoy friends, I was invited to parties, etc. then they would start asking me how much I make, and all that. Then bigla nalang ipapamukha nila sakin mga naipundar nila sa Pinas etc. parang puro sila ere, ayaw malamangan. There's this girl who keeps insisting na I got here because my dad is amerikano, eh hello mas flat pa ilong ng tatay ko sa ilong nya. Nalaman ko nalang na naiinsecure daw sya sa akin kasi hindi ko kailangan ng Amerikanong tatay or Asawa para maka punta dito, which is her case. My friends now are mostly African-Americans and Europeans.. Definitely wilder and crazier pero at least hindi judgmental.

^^nag-iba din ugali ko nang nakapag abroad ako. ngayon hindi ako magpapatalo kung alam kong nasa tama ako, unlike before hindi na lang ako kikibo kahit alam kong inaagrabyado ako.

i also have friends na ibang lahi, but we never talked about nagativity sa mga kalahi nila and ako rin hindi ako maninira ng mga pinoy sa ibang lahi telling them kung ano sinasabi ko dito ngayon na puro tayo pinoy. one time kasi naringgan ko ang isang pinoy telling a group of canadians about sa ugaling pinoy na mga chismosa, crab mentality, na ang pinas marumi, mabaho, etc....i mean what the heck! pilipino ka rin ano...although totoo naman ang marami doon, hearing that from a pinoy na sasabihin sa ibang lalaki nakaka offend talaga, for me ha,,,,i dunno for some peeps here kung ok lang sa inyo yun. kung sa kapwa pinoy pa since we came from the same place para sa akin ok pa eh.

For me kasi, yung competitiveness and crab mentality ugali na ng pinoy yan kahit sa ounas pa lang. Na-eenhance lang kasi nga mas marami ng pera pag nasa ibang bansa. Lalo na with the technology and the modern times, kahit pagkain gingawang social status. Post sa facebook, instagram. Magcocompare ngg mga bagay bagay. Its an attitude and behavior and it is so sad that people genralize it as a culture. Kaya for me stay away na lang from people na ganun, pinoy man yan or hindi. I remember yung tita ng friend ko dito. Kakadating lang namin pareho and i met the tita and she asked me kung anong work ko sa pinas and where i graduated. So i said i graduated from UP. And she retorted 'wala naman magagawa yang pagiging UP mo dito. and i was like, ok, nagtatanong ka tapos babarahin mo ko.
