Hong Kong Guide (Thread 29)

We will be celebrating New Years in Hong Kong and will be there for 8 days. We don't have an itinerary, don't plan to go to any of the tourist locations. The only thing is I will have my 10 month old daughter with us on the trip. What are the activities/areas we can bring her to (aside from Disneyland)?

We will be staying in Causeway Bay.

Where are also the must-shop places? I want to go to cotton On but my sister told me it's all the way in TST, is that really far? Would it be hard to tote my daughter along?

We booked na Rosedale Hotel Kowloon - Mongkok. Got the Executive Room with breakfast for 19,000, 4 nights via Agoda. So  P4,750/night lang. Was it a good deal na ba? Saka anyone here stayed na in this hotel?

Hi mga sis! Sa Ah Shan hostel kami nag-stay ng friend ko.... tipong P6K for 3 nights so OK naman, mura lang, twin beds kinuha ko. Meron free wifi , malinis yung CR and ok yung room namin,near siya sa Mongkok train station, exit [textspeak!]. Madaming shops sa labas ng building mismo, Argyle Street.  Siguro pagbalik ko sa HK dun kami ulit magstay ng pinsan ko.   

I super love HK, gusto ko bumalik-balik doon! Kakaiba yung energy ng place tapos parang dami pwedeng gawin. Exciting lang. Mura sa Sasa ng perfumes, sayang sana namili ako. Next time alam ko na.

^There are plenty of ATMs, which you can use. Just look for the Cirrus logo, and such, whatever's on your ATM card. Mind you though, there's a service charge per transaction so it's best to get a bit more than what you estimate than withdrawing a lot of times.

Yung EON ng Unionbank na may VISA, pwede yun pang-withdraw internationally right?

Saan ba maganda magpapalit ng PHP - HKD dito satin? Balak ko magpapalit ng around P15,000. TIA!

^forgive me, I'm nOt sure about that but I think pwede yung may visa electron logos. Maybe others here know the accurate answer. I haven't tried that. I've tried my BPI and Metrobank debit cards for withdrawals abroad (in the US, though). For HKG trips, I don't use debit cards. I use my credit card and carry cash. I have my money changed at either Travelex (I'm not the type to go around searching for different rates, too lazy...hehe) and I have a suki Chinese boutique owner at Regal Airport Hotel who changes my USD to HKD with great rates. I only carry PHP for terminal fee in MNL.

There's Cotton ON sa central, very near coach store.

@sis gabby13, parang tenement daw yung style ng chungking, tapos maraming Pakistani(?)-with-scary-aura ang nag-aalok ng matutuluyan sa baba nun.

yan yung ibang nabasa ko sa tripadvisor. tsaka bad reviews ang binigay ng ibang foreigner dun sa service at may bed bugs daw yung iba.

^sa chungking nagstay parents ko. Oo madaming indians nga don, but nag stay sila sa 1 ★ lang na hotel, chinese ang owner. My parents wanted something cheap kasi the whole day naman nasa galaan. So far, malinis naman daw and free wifi. Pumapatak 500/person lang per day. OK lang sa akin yun. Depende pa rin sa preference nyo

^ why don't you try sa Taisan Guesthouse. Ang Caretaker sa Burlington Branch nila pinay.. Dito kasi ako nag stayed last feb.

sis gabby13, booked ka na ba sa ChungKing? if possible look for other guesthouse kasi baka ma-off kayo sa ChungKing. i don't go there. sa lobby mabaho actually.. puro pakistani and indians.. kasi if ako yung tourist, baka di ako makatulog sa gabi kasi i don't feel safe.. opinion ko lang po yan ha..

Sa ibang forum di nila ina-advise na mag stay sa Chungking kasi dami dyan pakistani. Mag Golden Crown ka o Taisan.  Sa Taisan kasi pagbaba mo ng bus mismo doon ang building niya ang GC lakad ka pa konti.

hi everyone just got back from our hongkong-macau trip last Nov. 9-12; will be posting a blog soon but first just to share some of my tips and recommendations; thank you din pala sa lahat ng feedback and tips you posted here, it was really a big help kahit 2nd time ko na dun.

a. we stayed at cosmic sa mirador mansion - pls don't stay in this guesthouse! mahirap silang kausap and just like the feedback of others, hindi kalinisan ang mga linens nila at room; so totoo lang, i was not able to sleep comfortably sa matigas na bed nila at kakaibang room nila
b. i saw other good hostels there (mirador) though, ok naman ang mirador mansion, safe naman at mas okay ang smell compared sa chung king mansions
c. aside from eating at mcdonalds, we also ate sa yoshi noya malapit din sa may nathan road, mura, masarap at madami ang serving nila
d. malamig sa umaga sa hongkong, we went to avenue of stars at around 8 am, solong-solo ang spots for picture taking at ang sarap ng weather
