^sis Karrie, alalay lang sa pagpili ng souvenirs (esp keychains) sa Chinatown kasi most of the time di ganun ka-ok ang quality. From experience, madalas mas ok pa quality sa Mustafa or sa Bugis. Almost same price lang (or mas mahal lang ng konti..)

^Hmm weird.  Because the merchandise they sell in chinatown is same as in Bugis and Mustafa.  Unless what you bought is the hindi matibay talaga (cheapest one).

^^yung nabiling keychains and other pangdisplay at pampasalubong ng mom ko ok naman.. syempre pili ka lang ng maganda at matino. they end up buying i-love-sg shirts sa giordano. kasi yung 4 for sgd10 daw parang basahan sa nipis. eh sa mga tito at tita ko ipapamigay.. mahala nga lang pero oks naman daw kasi baka yung 4 for sgd10 eh disposable.. haha

Thanks for the advice.  This is the first time I heard of Bugis and Mustafa...researched after reading this thread.  Will be going with mom, so will take a taxi.  Hope hindi mahirap and taxi sa singapore.
If only one place to go...Bugis or Mustafa?
Will go orchard first- to see if that small kiosk is still there, hehe.

^bugis ka nalang kaysa sa mustafa. baka mashock kayo sa amoy pag nag mustafa kayo. atleast if you go to bugis pwede rin kayo mag food trip on the side. if you like eating durians, daming nagbebenta ngayon ng mura na ok ang quality here so far you can also go to kampong glam area para magtingin tingin sa haji lane etc and i think sa bugis area rin yung malay museum ata yun.

^^^^given na i  think na you have to check the quality rin before buying lalo na pag sa chinatown. parang pag nag divisoria ka ganun din

Hello mga sis! I've been lurking on this thread for awhile now.  My family (my husband, my 6-year-old kid and I) will go to SG in January.  Pwede patulong sa iti namin, yung masusulit namin yung time kasi 4D/3N lang kami.  First time kasi namin SG.

Day 1 :Sunday      
          - Departure - 6:25 am
     - Arrival - 9:50   
     - Lunch   
     - Check in - Marrison Hotel (Bugis) - 12:00 pm
     - Singapore Zoo - 1:00-5:00 (plan ko mag-taxi na lang para tipid sa oras)
          - Dinner (any suggestion- yung malapit sa Gardens by the bay - plan namin punta dito after ng zoo) 

 Day 2: Monday
           - Brunch Vivo City
           - Universal Studios (10:00 - 3:30)
           - Sentosa (3:30 - 8:00)
           - Dinner - Chinatown

Day 3: Tuesday
          - Legoland
          - Dinner
          - Helix bridge/Marina Bay sands

Day 4: Wednesday
          - Merlion/Fullerton/Bugis - 8:30 am
          - Check out at the hotel - 12:00 pm
          - Departure 5:40 p.m.

Ok na kaya 1,000 SGD for food and transpo? Yung mga park tickets bibilhin na lang namin online.

Planning to go to Singapore for a food trip ala Anthony Bourdain's Layover (we're skipping the theme parks this time). Could you guys give me recommendations where to go? Where locals eat sana, not tourist traps. Cheap, authentic eats. Food markets also. Where's the best area to book a hotel in? Thanks!

^when do you plan to go here? try going here ng may-june for the asian food expo.july naman may singapore food festival. if foodtrip habol nyo best place to book a hotel IMO is bugis area. or chinatown if ok lang kayo mag hostel/backpacking but do take note na bawal ata ang kids sa ganito for some establishments there.

^^I suggest  Old Airport Road Food Centre, it's near Dakota Yellow Line mrt but you have to walk 10 minutes from the MRT.
Chomp chomp din ok for satay pero hassle naman dahil it's a small location.

How's Tiong Bahru for food tripping? OK ba? Too hipster?

Nagutom ako nung tinanong mo ang Tiong bahru.

I love tiong bahru market.  I practically eat here everyday kasi Walking distance to from my place. 

If you plan to food trip in tiong bahru market here are the best stalls:

1.  Tiong bahru pao - tastiest char sew pao and siew mai
2.  Thai Lion Kitchen - $4 lang per meal pero masarap talaga at pinipilahan naming mga pinoy and locals
3.  Tiong Bahru Hwa Yuen Porridge - this one is located inside the tiong bahru hawker pero if there's good charcoal porridge along tiong poh road (Ah chiang)

^Sis, buong singapore panay shopping malls.  Do you want near mrt? Within the city (yung malapit sa orchard, sentosa, chinatown, bugis?) budget? Midrange? Or splurge?

Marina bay sands is right across the marina bay sands shoppes.
