I've been a backpacker/budget traveler for a long time. Here are some things I learned along the way:

• Subscribe to low-cost airlines for seat sales - my cheapest ticket for an international trip is 600+PhP for Kuala Lumpur then 1400PhP for Seoul (roundtrip, with baggage).
• Find a budget hostel or BnB using TripAdvisor or via PEX/GT. I don't really go for hotels because I consider this as just a place to sleep, shower and store our bags. I'll sleep in airports if I could especially if I have red eye connecting flights.
• Plan your itinerary and map your route. Group tourist destinations/restos you want to try by area to save time and money.
• Bring breakfast items/snacks. I always do this so I can splurge a bit for lunch and dinner.
• Try street foods but always bring medicine!
• Take advantage of promos for tourists like travel passes or discounted tickets.

That's all I can think of right now.  My friends and I have budget traveled in 11 countries in Asia since 2008. Our next target is Australia or Japan but our ultimate dream adventure is a Euro trip, of course Ipon muna!

^reminds me of how i had my brekkys while backpacking. Most hostel don't provide free breakfast so what I did to save money was to buy jams in packs (this is cheap overseas) and bread. Friends I met on the road thought it was brilliant and started doing the same.

Oh another tip, to  make my travel more memorable I bought a journal and I had everyone I met on the  road wrote a note or draw whatever they like.

lets make this thread active! Im a budget traveler, too. When I was in Bohol, me and my bf we experience the 'homestay' and it was fun. Far from the usual hotels na mahal. Sa homestay, you get tips for cheap deals and where to go to mismo sa may-ari ng bahay or sa locals around the place.

Last March sa Malaysia, nagstay kami sa hostel. Free breakfast at very helpful ng mga receptionist. Need to iron your clothes? nasa lobby lang ang plantsahan. Super DIY and no need to wait for room service to do it all for you lalo pa't OC rin ako sa mga gamit ko.

All of these I did it thru research at pag-follow sa mga blogs ng mga well known backpackers din.

not really a backpacker pero as long as possible we cut the cost sa travel like what we did sa baler yung first day sa costa then yung 2nd day sa murang inn na kami kaya yung 3 days namin sulit hehe.. ang laki rin ng tinipid.

have done backpacking once pa lang. hubby and I went to India and Nepal. hubby is a backpacker talaga. ako suitcase pa dapat dadalhin ko buti na lang hubby forced me to buy a backpack, ang dumi ng daan sa india.

2 weeks kami but our clothes were for 4/5 days lang. 2x kami nagpalaundry mura naman. do a lot research and book hostel in advance. si hubby lonely planet ang pinaka guide book niya, ako internet. hubby has a towel na manipis and madali matuyo, it was very handy sa trip namin.

Food - what we brought were jellies para sa mga train travels para at least sure na gusto ko.

Dress appropriately, be mindful of their culture lalo na commute commute, madaming makasalimuha na locals.

Bring medicines.

Si hubby sa mga long travels niya dati - ie 3 months, sabi niya he shipped home stuff na mga nabili niya or hindi na niya kailangan.

hi sisses! ask ko lang po kung anong backpack ang okay for travel? been using a duffel bag kasi ang naisip ko parang mas okay na backpack na lang. yung affordable sana. thanks!

most important syempre is to subscribe to all the airlines para updated pag may promo. Also subscribe to hotel bookkng sites kasi some of them has insider deals na pang members lang. Hostels are always my choice pero i see to it na decent and safe naman for me. I'd rather shell out a few hundreds to book a hostel that has better review score than get a cheaper rate with a hostel with a not so good review. Pero syempre binabasa ko din naman mga reviews kung realistic ba.

Type ko yang backpackers club para makajoin ako hehe.

the idea of organizing a GT Backpackers club is a great idea where you can share your ideas/tips/advice to your online friends in person at the destination where all of us enjoy and having some fun. Imagine,  backpacking in a beach sitting around a campfire and sharing/talking.
