Married to a Hubby with ADHD
« on: September 13, 2012, 05:11:29 pm »
We were bf/gf for more than a decade and it's only when we're married that I finally understood his shortcomings to him having a mild ADHD.  Our first few months were really a struggle and I have had those nights crying my eyes out while he was sleeping....

I oversee his sugar intakes and sleeping habits (must sleep early) to keep the ADHD low key, and things have significantly improved... and he tries to make things better.  I love my husband, and I know things will get better pa.

Maybe sisses, you can tell me your experiences and how you were able to cope with it?

Adult ADHD when he eats a lot of sweets would be like a child with a lot of energy to burn.

On adults, he cannot concentrate to just one tasks which looks as if he's always fidgeting while surfing the net, then biting his fingers the next minute, then he would see his desk and be doing another thing....and so on.  So, he would be sleeping wee hours in the morning, which would make things worse as his concentration and memory would be affected, which in turn, would make everything very disorganized, hence forgetting to pay the bills, etc.

Like a domino effect.  So most of them would look like they are lazy, disorganized, moody and cranky...maybe stupid also because his inability to concentrate and remember.

This does not happen everyday naman but when it triggers (sweets and lack of sleep are main culprits), mahirap talaga...emotionally and psychologically.  :(

since his triggers can be avoided (sweets and going to bed late),  i would assume it would be easier for him to control them (as an adult) with your help of course.  total vigilance pala ang kailangan niya.
are there meds that can help your hubby deal with this?

hugs to you sis! i have a brother with adhd but only as a child, my dad being a psychologist knew what to do. does your hubby engage in any sports activities? maybe he needs a new outlet, anything that interests him. what are his hobbies? what about his work? affected ba work niya? was his parents aware he had adhd?
