May thread tayo dati nun pero nawala na.

Probably one of my favorite genre pero eto talaga pinag-lalaanan ko ng oras dahil aside from the old English language, flowery mag-sulat ang mga authors.

My favorite classic author will always be Jane Austen. I need to re-read some of her works dahil si Pride and Prejudice lang ang paulit ulit kong binabasa haha

Anyone saw The Jane Austen Book Club movie? I always wanted to start that book club talaga.

i admire the classics  at tama ito need to labour and pore over dahil mahirap intindihin and you have to set your mind in their era but i love the style and the romanticism of the period,  but haven't gotten far reading much. ang gusto ko si hemingway and also jane and ana karenina (na gustong gusto ko basahin na di ko matapos tapos) I have a list of classics to read i read a few nung bata ako like around the world in 80 days and si hound of the baskervilles.

si jane puro yung movie tie ins lang ang pinanood ko and di ko pa sya nababasa and also the books ng modern writers who attempt to collaborate their style with hers yung may mga flashbacks and timewarps lol. Saw the Jane austen Book Club movie that one i liked, pero dahil i haven't read her yet eh di ako makakarelate sa book club but i would watch the movies over and over.

Classics is my all time favorite genre. Bagay dito yung "hard to get, hard to forget."

My favorite would have to be George Orwell. Hemingway writes powerfully also - he is amusing but it stops there for me kasi feminist ako at (trying to be) alpha male siya, and his female characters are always one dimensional, lagi kaylangan ng lalaki para mabuhay.

Albert Camus also is a very entertaining, light but thought provoking read. Siya yung tipo ng libro na matatapos mo in one sitting pero will leave you thinking for longer. Also one of my favorites.

Katulad ni sis muahmuahmuah sa anakarenina, ako naman ang di ko matapos tapos is yung the Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky. Nako ang haba kasi sobra kaloka haha

Ang list na gusto ko iexplore ngayon is yan, Dostoyevsky, Proust, Celine, James Joyce, Artaud, Kafka - the modern classics.

@diane, I think may mga book club sa goodreads na si Jane Austen ang focus? my cousin din also loves Jane Austen, grabe more than 10 times na yata niya inuulit yung Pride and Prejudice! Haha grabe lang.

^Yung Anna Karenina, 3 years ko na ata since last nabasa hanggang ngayon di pa rin tapos then pag-check ko sa Rotten Tomatoes kanina eh tapos na pala yung movie gawin with Kiera Knightley so kamusta na, naabutan na ko ng movie haha

In fairness magaganda ang mga movie tie ins sa books ni Jane Austen. At yung Jane Austen Book Club movie nga matagal ko na gawin pero wala akong kilala na fan ni Austen.

hi! mag uumpisa pa lang ako magbasa ng Jane Austen, kasi naman sabi daw she's one of the greatest English writers, so kung ganun aba dapat makabasa ako kahit isang book lang niya, nag download na nga ako ng Sense and Sensibility. ang hirap lang nananakit mata ko kakabasa! hay! pero okay lang, reading is my hobby!

maganda nga yung mga movie-tie ins ni jane. si wuthering heights pinanood ko na lang din i was super swooning over Tom Hardy fi didn't know he was the one playing Heathcliff the title cover! sigh!  sa  Ana Karenina naman ayaw ko si Kiera Knightly! this was upsetting for me. di ko alam kung panonoodin ko. Les Mis i want to read din.

murakami wrote in 1q84 on proust "No, I’ve never been in jail, or had to hide out for a long time  Someone once said unless you have those kinds of opportunities, you can’t read the whole of Proust."  ang haba haba siguro nun ilang pages kaya total. and confusing kaya ang content. hafta check this out.

I started  Time Machine and Moby Dick rin early this year or around last year pero both di ko rin matapos tapos pa.

^^I like! She's my favorite author at Pride and Prejudice ang all time favorite book ko.

Naku, si Wuthering Heights, masakit sa puso pero super ganda ng story. Marami pa ko nabasa na classic novels pero kelangan pag-tuunan ng pansin talaga dahil di biro ang ginagamit ng words haha

^hahahha yeap and kasi yung sentence structure iba same with english novels or european english writers iba rin talaga from american english. i have a few books by english authors it takes me longer to read them.

Alice in Wonderland - it's a nonsense, very pointless story

I've read Pride and Prejudice. Nanibago ako sa English structure pero carry naman, madali naman siya basahin. I want to read Jane Eyre next

^Maganda ang Jane Eyre! After you read it, I suggest you watch the film. It stars Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. Mas nagustuhan ko to kesa dun sa BBC mini-series (dahil distracted ako sa mouth nung bidang girl haha)

Alice in Wonderland - it's a nonsense, very pointless story

By Lewis Caroll? It's actually one of my faves. Mahirap nga lang icomprehend kasi baliw na siya nun nung sinulat niya, pero once you get around the grammar of the events, it's very amusing and, paradoxically for someone who is cofused, truthfully sublime.


Anyway kalungkot tagal ko nang pangarap si Proust di ko parin masimulan hanggang ngayon. Haha nag acquire nadin ako ng mga Virginia Woolf pero no progress din. Haha kakainis lang.

i used to read classic novels for bragging rights nyaha. but i genuinely liked madame bovary and the count of monte cristo. hindi ko din natapos si brothers karamazov though i thought it was funny. i was about halfway through it when... i dont know. i spaced out? forgot about it then when i was getting back to it, i couldnt remember who's who and i was too lazy to start all over again.

if we are to include modern works, ii love lolita. i also like salinger's franny and zooey and nine stories though these are technically not novels. they say james joyce's ulysses is the best novel of all time so im tempted to read it. bragging rights lang ulit hehe. then again, hanggang archie comics na lang kaya kong iprocess.

there was a time when i liked ayn rand.  i regret it. nakakahiya eh lol. and to quote lisa simpson, "isnt that (the fountainhead) the bible of right-wing losers?" lol.

i still cant bring myself to read jane austen and the bronte sisters. i thought about reading jane eyre, the illustrated version so i wont get bored. but it's expensive eh so nah. i also didnt enjoy hemingway. peace sa fans of these writers

^My friend loves Ayn Rand. Isa palang nababasa ko sa kanya, limot ko pa title haha Naalala ko yung book cover, color yellow LOL!!!

Sa Bronte sisters naman, si Emily at Charlotte palang nababasa ko. Wuthering Heights na major depressing pero maganda at si Jane Eyre na medyo creepy dahil dun sa mumu in the house haha

Ayn Rand is a really good novelist, but fell short as a philosopher. Pero kung sa fiction lang, she really is one of a kind and revolutionary, so I'm giving her credit for that.
She is also, btw, left-wing. Libertarian to be precise, which is exactly why she fell short as a philosopher but was a great novelist. Libertarianism is, though quite debatably, in theory a sparkling diamond, but in practice, quite doubtful.

Anyway, I'm currently reading Paradise Lost by John Milton mukhang okay naman so far. Kaya lang ang hirap ng language.

ahhh, the Classics! i have a love-hate relationship with this kind of books. First, Leo Tolstoy's works, in particular, are long and will require patience and a lot time to finish. I decided to start reading Anna Karenina (because i heard that a movie with Kiera Knightly as AK will be shown in theatres soon). Up to now, I'm still stuck to that chapter where they are expecting Anna's arrival.

Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Les Miserable by Victor Hugo
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte


I've only read one book by Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility. The book was so-so for me comparing to the works of the above mentioned authors. I recently bought 'Emma' and I sincerely hope I'll like it.

Anyone saw the trailer for The Great Gatsby? Napanuod ko lang kasi kanina at nabasa ko din yung book. Nagulat lang ako kasi iba yung interpretation ng movie. Sabi ko ang bongga naman ng set nung movie eh hindi ganito yung na-imagine ko while I read the book.

^^i've seen The Great Gatsby trailer. I'm a bit worried that it might end up like what Baz Luhrmann (the director) did to Romeo and Juliet (i.e. overproduction na parang theatrical ang peg).

by the way, I love that book! 1920's ang setting and the author (F. Scott Fitzgerald) actually lived that era.
