Birth Control Implant called IMPLANON

Implanon is a type of birth control implant, receiving FDA-approval in July 2006. This contraceptive implant is a thin rod, 40 mm in length and 2 mm in diameter -- about the size of a cardboard matchstick. It's made from a flexible plastic and is inserted just under the skin on the inner side of your upper arm. Implanon is a progestin-only method and provides about 3 years of pregnancy protection. Insertion requires a local anesthetic and only takes a few minutes. The implant can also be removed anytime before the 3 years are up. Implanon does not contain latex or silicone and will not dissolve, so it must be removed.  from about.com

this is still not available in the Philippine market.  although it has been approved by the FDA in the US and other countries,  DOH  wants to have a study of the implant first before selling it in the philippine market.  In the US,  it costs $200-400 to have the implant.  Right now, if you're willing to be one of their subjects (just like me, hehe! ) here in the Philippines, you can have it for free.  it is good for 3 years but you can have it removed anytime if you plan to get pregnant already or you think you couldn't take the side effects...

For me, so far so good.  Hope we can share our experiences with this kind of contraceptive.   ill post mine later.

1st day after insertion, i felt light headed.  on the second day, i had a terrible migraine.  im not sure if it's because of the implant or because of lack of sleep.  3rd day,  i noticed my skin pores are smaller.   or baka imagination ko lang....  pero according to some websites it can cause acne, weight gain, nausea, amenorrhea (no monthly periods).  today is my 4th day,  i experienced migraine during the later part of the day and feeling ko lumakas appetite ko.  no!!!

On the implant site,  it is bruised (hematoma)  and painful when you touch it.  I don't know when this pain and bruising should go away, i can't remember what the doctor told me..   but i noticed some improvement on the area already. 

the procedure was really fast, less than 10 minutes i think.  the only painful part is the anesthesia on the skin to make it numb but  the insertion of the implant on my upper arm wasn't painful at all.

ayaw ko kasi waith contraceptives is iyong tataba ka talaga... :*+(  sana may maisip sila contraceptives at the same type pampasexy

yes sis.  so far okay naman.  tolerable pa yung side effect.  if in case naman kase na hindi ko magustuhan papatanggal ko kaagad.  unlike IC na no choice ka but to wait for the 3 months.  i wanted to share lang din kase nga parang magandang option sya besides pills and IC.  makakalimutin kase ako so hindi ako pwede sa pills.  and since nirecommend din sya ng OB ko na safe for me, go na ako. 

ingat ka nalang sis if nagrest ka from contraceptives kase mas madali ka ata mapreggy.

Just want to know if where can I get my Implanon pulled out,I've had it for nearly 3 years now my husband and I are planning to have another baby.... We now live in Davao and I've got no idea who or where to go... I hope someone could help me here

Hi HappyGOLucky!  Ang alam ko lang dito sa Metro Manila.  You can go to PGH along Taft Ave.  They have a family planning center doon where they place and remove Implanon.  If you're not comfortable to go there,  my Ob-gyn can also do it ,  i will PM you her contact numbers.  Her clinic is also here in manila, you can ask her if she can remove it in her private clinic either in Asian Hosp, St. Lukes Global City, or the one along Taft.   

What did you experience while you were on it?  Did you gain weight?  Amennorhea?  Headaches?  Because as of this time, I have all of those.

yes, i would still recommend it.   it is really an effective contraceptive and safe too.  you can read more about in the internet. no need to worry for 3 years. no pills, no injections (after the insertion)
  wala syang side effects sa akin like leg cramps kaya ko nasabing safe.  so far i gained weight,  pero according to my OB yung ibang patients nya nag-lose ng weight pero for me,  super hirap talaga to control my weight and i'm blaming implanon for it.  pero siguro if small frame kayo and not on the obese side like me,  you can try it.   
ngayon, mas madalas ang migraine ko especially if hindi tama ang tulog ko.  siguro mga 2-3 times in a month. 
it was inserted in me last aug.  last time i had my period was september pa, since then hindi pa ako nagkakaron. ( this is good side effect for me ) 
btw, there's an FB page where the users based in the US or anywhere abroad discuss the effects on them.  one side effect also is it will lessen your libido. they hated that effect, so do i... 

i'll pm you the number of the doctor in PGH,  you can ask them if they still insert this for free.  ang alam ko until supplies last to.  and i hope you can share your experience with this as well.

I have mine implanted last May 7. after a month I have bleeding or spotting
mostly every day. Hindi sya nag stop up until today. medyo hassle talaga sya
kasi di nagstop bleeding and sometimes when im having sex nagbebleed sya and its so hassle tlaga.
Kapag di pa nagstop bleeding after six months ng pagkabit baka ipatanggal ko na lang, sayang convenient sana siya. aside from the bleeding i also have occasional bruises. yun lang wala nang side effects sakin.

Just had mine inserted last wednesday. Costs me 7500. The site has no bruising, ang galing ni ob she covered the area with gauze bandage to prevent brusing. The other day parang i was light headed now no more na. Im breastfeeding by the way and it doesnt seem like it is affecting my supply. I hope i dont get cranky and crazy with implanon like i did with diane and all those pills i tried before. Hope i dont get acne too. Crossing my fingers on these talaga as i am loving the convenience of it.

^Hi sis. It's progestin only so it will not affect your milk supply. Parang nag mini pill ka lang din, way way more convenient and cheaper kasi if you divide 7500 by 36 months 200 per month lang. Cezarrete (or cerazette?) Anyway basta yung mini pill na compatible with breastfeeding is 600+ a month.

I am breastfeeding din and I am currently looking for a more convenient method than pills kasi super tamad at makakalimutin talaga ko para sa pills. Ive read sa kellymom na shots (wherein you get a shot every 3 mos), when you stop having shots, minsan, for some women, after a year or longer pa bago naging fertile ulit. Ayoko naman ng ganun. So perfect talaga tong implanon. Kasi once you take it out, mafefertile ka na ulit.

^You can ask an OB dyan sis. I think madami na din naman OB nag iimplant. I had mine a week ago sa manila.
