naghahanap kami now s airbnb ng mga apartment.
marami naman maganda pero mostly malayo na sa manhattan..
san location ba maganda na atleast malapit lang sa manhattan?

junetwentythree, as much as I am keen to hike the crown there are no more tickets available - so that made the decision for me. The next dates are in mid-december - we are long gone then. Booked the Alcatraz Night trip instead for when in SF! Booked Shakespeare's, it is indeed exciting. Pinipicture out ko yung scene sa eyes wide shut! Hahaha..

j_in_tokyo, sis i booked through airbnb for our week long trip in Nov. There are heaps to choose from. Filter your search to Manhattan so you don't get results from areas you're not interested in. I always refer to the map where the rentals pop up. It's going to be my first time in New York, so I can't really say which areas to go for. However, after doing all the readings and putting our preference into consideration, we chose to be in the Greenwich/Chelsea area, away from the very busy streets however still conveniently accessible to anywhere. So do you want to be in the middle of it all or not?

di naman namin kelangan mismo sa manhattan magstay, gusto lang namin mga atleast 10to 15 mins by train nasa manhattan na kami? okay din kaya sa brooklyn area?

^ Although Harlem is still in Manhattan, I wouldn't recommend getting a hotel there. It's a bit too high up west side and the neighborhood could be a bit dodgy to say the least.  Brooklyn could be a good alternative.

j_in_tokyo, i thought the same when I started looking for accommodations, tempting to stay sa Harlem as it's quite reasonably priced, but friends were not recommending it.

I'll send you the apartment I booked, it is available on the dates you're after at around $265 a night excluding Airbnb fee which could be around $110 or so. Check your inbox.

Your train travel really depends where in Brooklyn you stay. If you look at the subway map http://www.mta.info/maps/submap.html you'll see the areas in Brooklyn that are closer to the city.

Hello Sissies, we just got back from a grand US trip! NYC was our favorite and next is LA, Santa Monica area! A NYC love bug bit us and we are inlove!

I can now say one week is not enough, we'd have to go back! Although we didn't do a lot of the touristee stuff we managed to tick off a few.

We rented out an apartment around 85th off 8th which was a lovely spot. The building was next to the Google, behind our building was High Line and Chelsea Market which was a really cute market. I loved the pop up shops, where the designers of both jewelries and clothing showcase their collections and also got lucky with Helmut Lang sale on going the day we were leaving NYC, that didn't stop me getting in and out quickly!

Heaps and heaps of really good restaurants and well priced as well. We had so much fun. I definitely recommend these fantastic experiences, try Morimoto and/or Momofuko, do Sleep No More experience, watch a mini concert at the Bowery Ballroom, grab a hotdog in a bun on side streets, walk Broadway from downtown to Midtown, grab 16 handles frozen yogurt and walk or cycle central Park! Love love love! I've got more to share but these are the things on top of my favorites. We are already looking forward to going back!

pag balik ko sa NY I will  not miss walking around the city and central. My gawd pinaplano ko na ang pagbalik ko sa July 2014. Checking airplane tickets now. lol

Kumusta kaya ngayon ang weather sa New York, siguro napaka ganda ng rockefeller. Haisst I am dreaming of white christmas (although alam kong walang snow pag decemeber dito) still I am dreaming hehe

JINJIN, the art in Morimoto's dishes were just mindblowing! Maganda divide mo time to do touristee and local stuff sis. I assume nanggaling ka na malamang nagawa mo na mostly ng mga popular things to do. Maganda yung time na nasa US kami, we get cool days and cold nights. Fall I would say is the best time kasi there is that character from the color of the leaves turning etc. I wish the same, I have not had a white Christmas, that was our original plan but since family Christmas has been decided di kami natuloy.

I visited New York in late October, and I had a blast! It was my first time experiencing autumn since my family and I usually travel during spring, and I really enjoyed it. I also found the cold weather the perfect excuse to layer and wear all the things I can't in this Manila heat.

I stayed at my best friend's flat in Astoria, Queens, and the place is pretty up-and-coming. I have a feeling it'll be the next Williamsburg.  Her apartment's near the subway, and we only needed to take the M or R train to get to all the popular areas. I've been to NY twice before this trip, but parating day trip lang since we have relatives in Rhode Island. So this time, since I was traveling alone and was staying for over a week, I made it a point to see as much of the city as I could. Didn't limit my exploring to Manhattan too.

I visited the usual spots like Times Square, Flatiron, Central Park, Met, Natural History, High Line. But since my tour guides were friends from college, they were able to show me the less touristy but just as interesting areas. I particularly loved Washington Square Park. Sobrang okay lang yung vibe with the skaters, the musicians, and all the young people from NYU. Also got to spend Halloween in the East Village, and ang saya lang to see all these adults dressed up in costumes. I saw Once on Broadway too, and I cannot recommend it enough! Ang ganda ng songs, and sobrang naiyak kami sa story. Granted, it's not your typical flashy Broadway show, but still, it was an experience in itself. Managed to catch a concert in Brooklyn too and even met the artist before the show!

My friends and I (we're all girls) walked and took the subway everywhere, and we'd normally get home really late at night. There were times I'd get nervous, but I think if you're just cautious and aware of your surroundings, you'll be able to get from point A to B safely. I'm already planning on going back July next year! It'll be mega hot but all the summer events and activities should make it worth the sweat.

FN_Pat, sounds like a lot of fun. I agree na it's best to check the local scenes more, but then it's all upto ones liking really. Yikes, I am dreaming of going back next year. My hubby keeps teasing me if I can make it work. If there's a will there's a way! And if we are going, we'll be looking at Sept-Oct for what I am assuming would be the perfect temperature. ^We were in NYC just this last October and it was cold na but not the bitter cold you expect in the middle of winter season. Some days you can get away with wearing a light coat, some days coat, scarf and hat ensemble. There were days na light showers but it doesn't last long naman. I prefer this time of year compared to the sticky, humid weather in summer.

mama squeak, i like the colder temperature as well however not freezing cold. when there in nov, we had mixed weather too but very cold for the most part that i'd have to wear gloves during the day in some days mixed with rain and wind. However, having said that, I am still looking forward to a white Xmas in the future!

Hi sisses. In NYC now..well in NJ actually and so far i've experienced my first snow. For a first timer like me it was magical. Haha. Been to some touristy spots but just a brief "tour" though it was really more of sightseeing. But i'm quite ok with it coz you really can't stay long eniugh in some spots due to the number of tourits.

We've seen Romeo and Juliet and we were on tje 2nd row...soooo close to Orlando Bloom! Hahaha.

Just a queation though...stupid as it may be..by any chance, is there a money changer here or in NYC that exchanges peso to USD? I have some Php here i want to exchange. Witjdrawing from my philippine atm would be my next resort. But if by any chance you know of any...i'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks!

It was like -5F yesterday with the windchill! Definitely not my favorite kind of weather  But I guess that's better compared to what the other states is experiencing. It's warming up slowly as the week progresses though. Thank goodness.

@psyche18R sorry sis but I hope you were able to find a place to exchange your money. Didn't see your post until now. Hope your trip is going well/went well!

I love NY! I love Manhattan and the downtown Astoria in Queens, dun kami nagstay.
Comment ko lang talaga is yung subway and their stations, marumi and wala CR,
nasanay kasi ako dito sa Tokyo na maayos ang train at may CR sa mga stations.
Other than that, okay ang trip namin sa NY..
Cant wait to go back there soon!

Also fortunately, we were able to leave NY on January 1  for our flight to LA..
Nung Jan 2 nag start yung snow storm at madami raw nacancel na flights..
good thing talaga di kami inabutan nun kundi yari ang mga plans namin..
