Myanmar?

Has anyone been to Myanmar? Any tips? I'm planning to do a solo trip there next year, most likely Feb. Best time to go there daw is Nov-Feb eh so baka Feb nalang ako. The Big 4 are Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake, but since I'm planning to do just a week there, baka Yangon-Bagan-Mandalay nalang route ko.

Sayang din I might not be able to do Mrauk U, which is supposedly the "next" Angkor W-a-t, although I think they shouldn't be compared. Anyhow, anyone planning to go there, let me know, baka we can organize something.

I also included this in my go-to list abroad. In a travel magazine where I work, there is a feature on Burma (Myanmar) and the photos are so stunning! it has its own charm. pero i'm sure medyo mahal ang airfare nyan (compared to other SEA countries like thailand, cambodia, etc.) kasi konti lang ang flights.

Bhutan is also another place that interests me.

^AFAIK, there is still no way to cross into Myanmar overland from Laos.
Your best bet is to fly from Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Going there next year, pero September pa.  And if Alexandrea finds a way to cross into Myanmar from Laos, we'll see each other there, haha.

I'm hoping that Myanmar is really worth visiting because preparations for this destination causes the most stress, I swear.

^ It's worth it I hear it has changed from when I went there in 2010, but it's still a pretty lovely place, I hear. It's very rural, it's quite chaotic (they drive on the right side of the road and majority of the vehicles are right-hand drive), but it has plenty of charm!

Pls share your itinerary for Myanmar. How's the security issue there now? Hindi na ba tense ang political atmosphere?

When we were there last September, we did not feel any sort of repressive political atmosphere at all.  But it's best not to bait the locals into talking about political stuff.

Earlier this moth though, there were bombings in Yangon.  Still not sure who's behind it.  Definitely not Aung San Suu Kyii's party.  Possibly Islamic militants as reprisal for the state-sanctioned persecution of Rohingyas from Rakhine State.

^ Yeah, read about the bombings. Scary. Buti na lang wala na tayo dun when it happened. Still sad to hear about it, though. Yangon seems like a peaceful place naman. Oh well.

^^ An elderly monk stopped to talk to us on U Bein Bridge. It started pretty pleasant enough, but when he switched to talking about how the military regime restricted their citizens' access to tertiary education, we were out of there so fast hahaha. Mahirap na eh!
