yanmae, anong line of work ng friend mo na $900 ang salary? I think it's too small Lugi talaga if his/her company's not sponsoring her accommodation or food. Roughly ito ang monthly expense:
- PUB (water, gas, electricity) $50
- Room to share $400
- Phone bill $30
- Transportation $100
- Food $350
- Toiletries $30

Wala pa diyan ang cable TV, internet, at budget for bills to pay sa pinas kung meron man.

mc_javier, I work part time as a head hunter. And recently, siguro for the past 4 months, we were strictly required to hire only locals and permanent residents simply because of the quota of foreigners allowed in each company. And depends sa industry ang factor ng age. I had one client who was looking for a Personal Assistant and their only requirement was local/PR, Chinese, 31 years old and below, pretty (yes serious ito na pretty sa paningin nila), and at least 1 year experience. Some clients naman require 15 years of experience lalo na pag CEO or CFO ang position. Even accountants na hinahanap nila meron age requirement. Ayaw nila ng job hopper. Well most of them.

I have a few questions about Singapore job hunting.

1. Am I allowed to rent a room in Singapore as a tourist? Will tenants let me sign a lease even if I don't have an employment pass? I do not have relatives/friends in Singapore who are willing to let me stay in their place, so I'm looking for a room which I could rent.

2. Are there a lot of job prospects in the Finance and investment banking industry?

3. How much money will I need if I were to quit my job now and move to Singapore to jobhunt for a month?

^sis, i will strongly discourage you from quitting your job. Pwede ka naman mag-apply online. Mahigpit kasi talaga ngayon dito, and by next month may new rules na naman.

1.  Yes.  As long as you provide a passport photocopy and inform them that you'll just stay within a month.  Although a lot of owners would prefer long staying occupants, there are still who can accept month long term.

2.  Look at monster.com.sg, jobstreet or jobsdb or stjobs.sg .  Companies here rely on employment search engine when posting job opportunities kasi hindi dito uso ang walk-in.

3.  Above postings have indicated the cost of stay here in SG.

jmeangeL, for the past 3 months, I have an access to monster and jobsdb resumes (nagpapart time kasi ako as head hunter). Marami talaga ang locals na job hoppers. Minimum nila sa company ay 2 years. Pero depende naman sa hiring company kung requirement talaga nila ang job hopping. For example sa isang client namin na naghahanap ng Accountant (one Junior and one for Consolidation of Accounts), requirement nila ang hindi job hopper.

bluewinkle, those who are under Dependent Pass are still considered as Foreigners. Most of the companies who offer part time jobs require locals/PRs din

fall2pieces, Paano ka mag start? Pagandahin mo ang resume mo in the sense that you really sell your self well then submit ka lang ng submit online. But mas mataas ang chance mo if you know someone who can refer you to their company.

jieunae, sometimes it happens na may job offer ka na from the company. Pero ang problema ay ang MOM (Ministry of Manpower). Sometimes they deny the work pass due to quota for that company.

krabby_patty, they used to allow transient rooms ($12/day) pero pinagbawal na ata ito. You might want to check PinoyITdotSG. For Finance jobs, check efinancialcareers. Submit your resume there as well. For a month, maybe you'd need 70k pesos minimum.

^ correct ka dyan sis.  one of my ex-collegue na pinoy, ok na lahat before.  then when the time came he needs to renew his visa, tapos nataon pa na MOM raised the cap of minimum wage for expats tska medyo madami din ata kasing foreigners sa company, ayun, medyo napending siya.  he is lucky that the company he is working on did all the best to renew him, kaya ayun, narenew pa rin siya. 

depende talaga na sa MOM if irerenew ka or what.
