1Learn to live within your means,
Baka naman mas malaki kinuha mo items ( utang ) mo kesa sa income mo monthly , mahihirapan ka nga magbayad , magkakainteres at lolobo lang utang mo,

2.Wag mo sagadin credit limit. Komo 150k limit mo sasagadin mo yun, eh kamusta naman pagbabayad mo?

3.Wag ka na magdala credit card matetempt ka lang

4. Bayadan mo total amount due mo monthly. Wag mo i-minimum.

5. And ofcourse kumuha ka ng credit card dapat may nakahanda kang pambayad.

I agree. I make sure to pay in full every month. Kung hindi kayang bayaran in full wag i-max out.

dati i hated the concept of credit cards. I hated the thought of having credit. my motto was, if i dont have enough money to pay for something then it means that i shouldnt be buying it in the first place. and yes for me that includes the big purchases...

but about 2 years ago i changed my mind. partly because i couldnt book a hotel without a CC and tyen because i am missing out on the points. I still make sure that i have enough money to cover everyhing i am buying before i charge it.

best use of credit card? for everything. hahaha.

auto debit utility bills, buying grocery. buying plane tickets, (esp sa cebu pac) paying for hotels.. etc

I have 3 CCs...
i use the citubank cashback for utilities and groceries and gives you a rebate of a max of 1000 pesos. after i reach the 1000 max rebate i then use...

citibanks rewards card. which gives u a 100 peso off for movie tickets if you charge 2500 on it. I am a movie junkie but you can be limited to whats screening at the movie houses. so, if i dont have anything i want ti watch i use....

my trusty BDO classic card. which offers BDO reward points for every purchase. :-)

it helps that my parents have a sari-sari store and i use my credit card on it. I get maximum rebate.
but if i didnt then 1 cc lang ang gagamitin ko.

plus citibank has a lot of promos now. :-) I also dont avail of the 0% installment on stuff but not because of the discounted cash only price. I just havent had the change or the inkling of buying something yet. medyi kuripot kc ako. Btw, the discounted cash only price is not that discounted as you might think. Kc you have to consider the time value of money. You have to do some calculations to check on it.

Sorry for the long post... :-(

agree to living within your means. if you can't pay for it with money that you have at the moment then you have to save for it unless it's a case of life and death. this is the rule i live on.

Never use CC for cash advances.  The interest--be golly!

you should only use CC when:

  • big appliances purchase - get that 0% interest for 6months.  get that payment slip with freebies and earn points
  • monthly grocery shopping - i do my grocery shopping once a month (only for grocery stuffs, not including that baboy & manok ulam) and i pay with my CC.  again to get the payment slip with freebies and to earn points.  plus if you're doing once a month shopping, you'll likely end up with 10k on the bill.  who would bring 10k cash in a mall?!
[li]paying for a plane ticket - madalas umuwi si hubby sa pinas. 4x to 5x a year.  di pwedeng walang CC to pay for his tickets
[/li][/list]

at the end of the day, you should stick to your budget and always pay the full bill that you're seeing in your statement o avoid financial charges

^ to add:

gasoline purchases. of course if you have a vehicle.

anything that you NEED (not "want") to purchase online where only CC/debit cards are the means of payment. Well, that's your only choice of payment, right?

If below 2k, citibank mercury, may rebates.
2k above, bpi and bdo, for freebies
Abroad, like in asia, bpi and hsbc, low peso dollar exchange
US, canada, ...amex. Taas credit limit.

I always use my credit card almost all the time but i make sure that i pay it in full and on time. Tsaka yung due date ng credit card ko is sakto sa swledo. I use it para lang madelay yung payment instead of magshshell out ako ng cash. Atleast nagkakapoints pa ako.

Yung iba kasing gumagamit ng credit card parang feeling nila meron silang free cash. Tapos every month, minimum lang ang binabayaran hanggang magppile-up na yung total due.

Ginagawa ko kapag may gusto ako bilhin na medyo mahal, binibili ko sya during my cut-off date. That way, i have more or less 2 months to pay it off. Kunwari my cut-off date/ statement date is feb 25, magiging due date ng purchases ko made on or after feb 25 is around april 15. So 2 sweldo pa ang dadaan para mapagipunan, then on the due date itself, i will pay it in full, if that makes sense.

It's ok lang naman gumamit ng credit card as long as you know how to use it responsibly. Kaya kumikita ang mga banks e, dahil sa mga interests na binabayadan ng clients nila  ;)

Always pay with full outstanding balance every month.

Dati na kong nabaon sa utang sa card kaka-shopping ko before kaya now, I take advantage of this by:
- using credit card for my online business, since I do pre-order sa US shops
- using the rewards I get from points on groceries, booking airfares, online purchases and mga nagpapa-swipe sa kin, hehe
- using 0% on appliances, pero if makakuha ako nang discount pag cash eh kina-cash ko lang, I'll be able to save hundreds to thousand pa
- if mapapa-waive ko annual fee, much better, minsan kase they offer half of annual fee or full reversal of AF

I use my BDO and SM Advantage Card when grocery shopping in SM. Minsan double points.
I take advantage of free GCs when meeting minimum purchase requirements, like 100 SM GC for 3k BDO charge slips.

My friend uses her Rustan's Citibank credit card, and her Shopwise Card when grocery shopping in Shopwise, every Wednesday daw double points. She gets high rebates.

HSBC for 3 yr 0% installment, kaso I don't have any big purchases eh.

I also try to take advantage of Free Entrees with Minimum Food Purchase Requirement like 1,500 for BDO, depends on restaurants. Mahirap lang minsan magtrack kung ano promos ng mga CC eh.

Same with majority of our sisses here, the husband and I pay our credit card bills in full every month. The key truly is to "shop within your means". :)

The husband and I both use our credit cards primarily for the following purposes:
   Groceries - Sayang ang points
Utilities / Bills - Sobrang convenient kasi imbes na pupunta ka pa sa iba-ibang bayad center or kung saan-saan, eh isang bayaran nalang since sa CC lahat naka-charge.

If we must buy anything outside of the two, we make sure we have the money to pay for it. We rarely (actually almost never) go shopping just for the sake of shopping using our credit cards. We've never maxed out our cards either. :)

Reminder lang din to all CC users. Be very vigilant. Protect your CC and personal info at all times. Mahirap na. I usually track all our purchases online to make sure walang unusual activities sa card namin. :)

just remember to pay on your payday. pagdating ng sweldo, bayaran mo na agad in full ang utang mo. para matuto ka ng responsibility. pag halos maubos na ang sweldo mo sa cc mo palang, next time for sure hindi mo na yan gagamitin ng basta-basta. credit card is not free money, utang pa din yan na kailangan mong bayaran.

It's sad na hindi na pwede yung ginagawa ko when we're going for a grocery shopping. Dati kasi, pwede ko i-hiwalay ng receipts para makakuha ng two freebies based dun sa requirements nila. For example, I got 5,100 sa grocery namin and inihiwalay ko for 2 na 2,500 receipts in exchange for brownies. Ngayon, hindi na yun pwede. They included new terms about it. Nabasa ko when checking their new freebies. Kaasar... :-(

^sa grocery sis? E why not kapag nareAch mo na yung certain amount like 5k i cc mo na.. Then hiwalay na transaction naman yung iba pang grocery items mo.. If ang problem mo e halata sa date or time ng transaction, why not redeem your freebies in another branch naman?

Back to topic. If youre regularly using your cc like cash better if you set a budget or limit so youll know when to stop spending.. Its the same with living within your means.. Get to know muna your means haha! Do budgeting ganyan.. Youll know magkano lang dapat expenses mo monthly.. And then make sure to pay in full.. As in parang float days lang talaga habol ko sa cc eh.. Pero come payday bayad yan agad. Hindi ko hinahayaan pagkakitaan ako ng mga cc companies na yan.. Hihi.. Even the annual fees.. Pag alam kong malapit na yung month kung kelan magc-charge i see to it na walang nakakarga sa cc ko na yun.. Gamit muna ko ibang cc.. Para kapag ayaw iwaive edi close! I have 5ccs with me.. I needed / use only two basta magkaiba lang ang cutoff dates eh.. Ang kukulit kasi ng mga agents eh ndi mahindian.. And all gastos are so far within limit ko lang.. Buti nakakabawi na nung pasko umover over ako lol..

May ganito ba ang bdo to pay meralco bills and internet? Di ko alam kung paano to charge it automatically sa CC. I wanna sana ganun na lang. Sayang ang points! I've tried to ask a SM Cashier if pwede i-charge sa CC ko when paying my meralco bill, di daw pwede...

I learned this from Suze Orman, there are good and bad credit card usage, a good use is using credit card to buy grocery for food at your table, bad use is using credit card to pay for food in a restaurant where you treat your friends. Good use is when you use credit card to pay gasoline for your car to go to work, bad use is when you pay for gasoline for your car on your way to an unplanned vacation with friends , just to "chill out".

My practice is to always pay in full on or before the due date. If i cannot pay in full then it is my indication that I cannot afford it. I think kasi the interest fee is a waste of money.

Of course ibang story naman yung mga zero interest na payable in x number of months.

Practical ways to maximize use of credit card:

1. I always pay in full.  For me its ok to use it anywhere as long as im paying it in full.  My reason is it will earn points. Sayang din yun.

2. I'm also using it for deferred purchases as long as it is zero interest so that i dont have to withdraw from my savings.

3. I'm using it also to pay for my monthly dues in meralco, post paid line and insurance so i could save on time in monitoring and in doing payments as well.

4. I'm using it as back-up during my trips.

5. Control is the key, i only have 3 credit cards two of which is issued by my company. I usually bring 1 card with me. I keep my two cards at home.

6. I always requested for reversal of annual fees.

7. I'm also using for online purchases such as plane tickets, hotel booking, etc..

Always include credit card bills on your monthly budget so that you are able to pay in full before the due date.
