tama po yung nagcomment above me.  depends.

always own your website if you're going to set one up. Much safer kesa yung mga free hosting plus you own the website.

As far as shopping carts, meron namang free open-source shopping carts or you can use Paypal's

I recommend Bluehost for hosting (cheap and reliable) and Namecheap for a domain registrar.

As for design and setup, I suggest researching how to set one up (cheap) or you can hire somebody to do it (expensive). Don't go for bonggang website - go for a simple layout na madali ma-manage.

My husband creates our own websites (e.g. http://www.teekals.com/) using free opensource Opencart (http://demo.opencart.com/). Domain names and webhosts are not free but very with minimal cost (15-100 USD). There are also good Opencart templates (e.g. http://opencart-demos.net/forest/opc1/) which you can buy online for 10-50 USD.

I'm a multimedia artist and when I was studying web design, we literally do 1 website in 3 hours for free--free kasi of course seatwork yun sa school etc. Php3,000 is cheap because getting your own url costs 1.5k/year. so parang talent fee ng designer mo is just 1.5k din. Syempre aangal mga web designer because they want to have their effort's worth. 'Yung mga pinaka-enterprising samin noon nagsa-sideline and they charge 5k per website. Personally i think that's enough. Hindi mahirap gumawa ng website. Or I'm just saying this cos I've been doing it for more than half of my life already. But then, kung professional naman ang kukuhanin mo, I don't see how he/she would say na mahirap gumawa. The designing part takes up most of the time. But after that, especially with css and java or flash know-how, it can be done in a day. Kung gusto nyo makatipid, get students na magaling and they'd charge you less. Make sure lang na magaling talaga sa design because as i said, coding is so easy and it's the design that will make or break it. Although I earn from doing websites, I personally suggest siguro aralin nyo na lang :P Sa web hosting btw, I get from UnliWebHosting.

50k for a website is stupid--opinion ko lang ha. But yeah, my professors and some of my batchmates charge that price. And I was tempted to charge the same before but no one would pay that with the network I have cos I used to do their designs for free way way back. For professionals 15k-35k is decent.

^are you sure about 3K? take note that it is not a static website that was being asked. there is a payment facility required. if you can provide us with such payment facility plus webhosting plus web design for 3K, then I am interested

3000? That is enough only for setting-up a default website such as Opencart (see how it works: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=demonstration/demonstration) and a cheap webhost.

We are tempted to grab your offer and set-up a basic Opencart installation for you with your own domain name. However, what's next? Of course you will want a website with a look/design that will reflect your brand. Then you will also need help and training on using the website. Then if some problem arises, you will contact your web developer for support. P3,000 is indeed not enough.

In business, you need to invest more to earn more. Dati, okay lang ang Multiply and Sulit. Now, there big-players in online selling like Zalora and Lazada. They have their websites. Talagang bigtime na ang ecommerce sa Pinas.

^sis i said 3k is cheap. i didn't say it's reasonable. read my post again :) the decent price i said is 15-35k. and no i don't think my peers and even i would agree with a 3k payment for a website with a shopping cart. i don't even think my peers would do a website for 3k :P that's why i said it's cheap. but as i also said 50k FOR ME is just whoaa. i mean i know it is common practice--very common actually. My friends even charge more than 50k if they were also tasked to take the photos that will appear on the website. But even they agree na anlaki laki talaga ng kita namin dito. I even discussed this with my colleague a while ago and we deduced that well, mahal din naman ibinayad namin sa tuition eh :P Still, personally I wouldn't charge 50k for a simple website. I'm talking about a simple website kasi 'yang 50k na yan presyo na yan ng simpleng corporate websites. For a website with a shopping cart and I'm assuming photos need to be taken for the products..so kung lahat ng yun 'yung web designer ang papagawin nyo 35k is ok. Happy na 'non ang designer. For me lang ha. My colleagues don't agree though..for reasons that are not so relevant here anymore :P  Oh and btw webhosting is just really 1.5k. So if you have time and patience, just learn and do it yourself. Maccustomize nyo pa sa kung ano talaga gusto nyo. For extremely busy people who have the money, go ahead and feed the artists (and thanks for that). Hehe :P

err..why would anyone pay Php3000 for a default website :P better get a good web designer and pay a bit higher (but not over-priced).

or better yet use the 35K to finance your education in building your own website.  parang may narinig akong company who is offering free website but they pay for the maintenance na parang 1K a month? not sure google natin

ako kahit wala ng payment facility ang mahalaga sa akin yung shopping cart na may inventory na rin saka syempre magandang website.

sis @sum.mer - Pwede kaya yan for 3000 kasama na web hosting?

shopping cart na walang payment facility, then may inventory?  you mean nakaindicate sa website kung ilan ang available stocks?  hindi sya ganun kabilis.

1. pag nag add to cart si potential buyer and nihit nya yung confirm order. hindi maaaring magbawas agad sa inventory yung niorder kasi hindi pa naman bayad yun.  hindi ka pa sure kung talagang bibilin ni buyer or not.

2. u need another program (in a form of a website or not).  need mo iupdate dun yung products mo na gusto mo lumitaw sa website (name, description, picture, price)

3. in that another program, may module/form wherein you should enter the stocks available, then need mo ren ng adjustments.  syempre, pag may bumili na di naman dumaan sa website, need mo bawasan yung stocks na nakalagay sa website mo.  and kung magdadagdag ka ng stocks ng particular item, need mo ren iupdate yun sa website mo.

programmer/web developer/system analyst ako nuon  :)   kahit ano basta computer, wag lang hardware.

i can create a complicated website + invoice and inventory system for my online shop.  pero ayaw ko.  gusto ko simple lang.  ayaw ko yung nakadikit ako sa program just updating my stocks online.

and remember.  kahit ilagay mo sa site mo yung stocks mo, yung buyer mo (user) would still ask kung may stock or wala.  ganun lagi yun.  ganun lagi ang user ng isang application system.  and most buyers prefer yung itetext or makakausap ka pa nila before buying, unless you are a seller from outside the philippines.

^hmm... I agree mahirap ang may inventory na walang payment facility.  it's better na static na lang na website. you can do it on your own. you don't need to pay 50, 35 or even 3K.

wordpress (the platform, not necessarily wordpress.com, yes it's not just for blogging now) might be an option din for people not adept in developing websites from scratch. for those hiring, Im not sure pero baka mas mura din ang labor cost?

you still have to buy your domain and pay for hosting on top of the labor (if outsourcing). Pero I browsed around, mga 6USD/month lang naman for domain and hosting yung cheaper end.

If ok lang sa inyo not to have own domain, <yoursite>.wordpress.com is free, they allow it naman as long as you're not affiliate marketing (you're the creator of the product you're selling).

Marami nang wordpress themes with built in shopping cart.

Static websites are things of the past. Better set-up a Weebly page rather than pay someone just to create a static website.

There are free shopping carts (Opencart, Pretashop, Magento) with lots of templates/themes which you can purchase (some are free though). When you found a theme that suits your brand, you can customize the logo and a few graphics. A nice-looking theme can be purchased at $40 (e.g. Themeforest). Domain name is $12 and webhosting is $50-$150 annually. You just need a web developer to set-up your domain, your webhost, install the scripts and set-up a database and making it work.

Of course you need to learn first how the open source shopping carts work. If you get a web designer, make sure that that person is familiar with how online shopping works.

@yanmae, you're doing great for a start.
