Is it true na better ang mashed than pureed para may texture pa din to urge the little one to chew... even at 6mos for their first food?

I bought avocados last weekend for my baby's first solid food.  Pero lumipas na ilang araw hindi nahihinog kaya I decided to give squash instead.  Ang ginawa ko, nilagay ko sa ibabaw ng kanin nung malapit na maluto para ma steam.  It's healthier kasi pag steamed compared sa boiled.  Ayun, okay naman.  I think I will be doing the same technique on the next foods especially that I'm still preparing small batches.  If he can eat more tsaka ko na lang ilalabas [textspeak!] Avent na steamer blender in one.

yung concept ng pagpuree ng baby food also has something to do with the baby's ability to swallow.  so for first solid foods, I think safer to start with pureed pa din then mashed na lang eventually when he's already used to eating.  may danger din kase ng choking sis if you give chunkier food than what lo can handle. and we don't want that.

For us I started with pureeing at 6mos, then at abt 7mos, halo na ng pureed minsan mashed. Now at 10mos sanay na sya sa bits and pieces of food.  He eats rice as is. He has 6teeth na din (and another 1 coming out).  we often let him eat by himself but we still supervise kase minsan ang laki ng kagat, so may risk pa din ng choking.

Never pureed food for my baby. Mashed lang. It's way cheaper pa cause you only need a fork. I have the masher from NUK but never got to use it.

@ghye ako din sis, bumili ko avocado even before shes ready for solids.

@skela96c yes sis, naisip ko din yun, kaya puree yung unang food niya just to be sure. Marami pa naman siyang time matuto magchew sa mashed hehe.

@honeyblue nako, i was planning to buy baby bullet pa man din, buti nabanggit ko sa asawa ko bago nanaman ako magsisi haha... and nagcheck ako ng reviews, hindi naman daw necessity. I used the handheld blender instead, meron naman kami... okay naman si baby sa puree, i thinned it out pa with bm para easier for her.  By her 7th month we'll do mashed naman.

Hi mga sis. Ask ko lang if anyone has tried owl baby food maker? Steamer blender 2 in 1 sya. Thanks

@tinytins hi mommy! steamer and blender 2-in-1 is convenient, go ahead! I use Avent for my lo - makes my life easier! :)

Also, just want to share with you all mommies, my lo is 7mos old, we introduced his first solids exactly on his 6th month. He had carrot puree that time at half [textspeak!] carrot ang sinerve ko. 2nd day, pureed squash naman sya. Then after that nag-diarrhea na sya which was normal naman daw for the babies who just started solids... after that hininto muna namin kase [textspeak!] pagtatae nya lasted for a week. He only  took probiotics and hydrolite to keep him hydrated. Pinagmilk lang namin sya and then when his poops are getting okay, nag-solids na naman kami.

So far so good, I have compilation of his solids sa fb account ko which is TK inspired. Right now ayaw nya na ng mga mashed mashed. We cut his veggies and fruits now. He wants to chew already even without ipin pa hahaha. Good job anak.

Also, he has not eaten any kind of cerelac, gerber and mga ready made baby food. Much better pa din ang home made mga mommies! Im a working mom btw, so kahit mahirap i-push ang no cerelac/preservative foods rule ko, kinakaya naman.

Tips lang mga mommies when introducing solids to your lo - try nyo ibigay same food for at least 3 days just to see if may allergies or other negative reaction si baby sa certain food. If ok sya dun. you can start with a different food naman, again for another 3 days.. :)

Mag start na si baby mag try ng solid this week. Siguro simulan ko sa mashed kalabasa for 1 week. Ipa-steam ko na lang para mabilis lumambot at intact pa bago i-mashed ng fork.

Mommies who follow TK for their babies, any suggestions for lo's breakfast. nahihirapan na ko magisip. yung quick and easy to prepare. my daughter kasi when she wakes up, breastfeeding agad gusto, so what i do, i prep her food mabilisan pagising para di na maghanap ng boobie pag nagutom.

my baby started solids a few weeks ago. honestly, i wasn't prepared for it. didn't realize it was going to be such a tedious task. a few weeks before she turned 6 months, i did a quick research then waited our pedia's go signal.

on our 6th month checkup, i was surprised when we talked about solids with our pedia. he recommended lugaw, cerelac or gerber rice. basta anything grains. he also recommended cereals from healthy options if we want na organic. nagulat ako kasi everything i've read says we should start with steamed veggies nga daw etc. and cerelac and gerbers is a no no. i even considered switching to a different pedia kasi i was really hesitant in following his instructions. we didn't want naman not to follow kasi it will defeat the purpose of having a pedia di ba?

so we did further research and talked to our family and friends about it. as it turns out, some websites really do recommend grains as baby's first food. kasi its the least allergenic and very healthy too. also, some said on the first few months of solids naman daw, it doesn't really matter that much kasi the babies are only starting to try out eating. in the end, we bought oatmeal cereals from healthy options. its a big can, up to now wala pa kami sa kalahati kasi we only give her one tablespoon at first, then two tablespoon, and now we feed her twice a day na.

next week, we're going back to the pedia. im hoping he'll let us try veggies and fruits na kasi mukhang nagsasawa na rin si baby sa cereals and i also want her to try other food naman.

until now medyo doubtful pa rin ako sa ginawa namin, just hope we did the right thing :(

hands up if you also have no idea what you're doing! :))
