"kulang po sa focus ang anak ninyo"
« on: April 08, 2012, 08:12:36 pm »
this is the usual feedback that we get for our child. he's in grade1 and though all his grades are high ang sabi nang mga teachers is he is very smart and he actully can do better pa. kulang lang siya sa focus and sa initiative. Kahit sa PE. they are learning basketball. i asked him if he likes basketball and if he is enjoying it kase db kapag hindi naman gusto nang bata mahirap talaga magfocus sabi niya yes and natutuwa daw siya. Pero when i watched him during his basketball class naku wala masyado nga focus. Kumbaga hindi niya masyado iniitindi instructions nang teacher of nagcoconcentrate kung paano gawin yung mga drills. same as with homework. minsan basta alam na niya kahit papano lang basta matapos lang siya sa homework. any suggestion mga sis?

how old is your child sis? former teacher ang sis ko and usually, kids na kulang sa focus sa class niya(grade 1 kids) are those 6 years old and below.. matalino kung sa matalino naman kaso nga lang, hirap magfous.. madali mainip, antok kapag tanghali na (oras kasi ng nap yun diba?) at gusto lagi ng laro agad.. excited mag luh break saka mag-uwian ;D

sa recommendation, wala naman masyado IF yun nga.. bata pa si baby mo (6 and below) just let her be.. kapag nag-7 na yan and older, makakafocus na yan din on her own

my son at times kulang rin sa focus what i did was to motivate him more and encourage him that he can do it. i usually asked him what he wants to be, his dreams and aspirations in life and told him that he need to work harder in order to achieve what he wanted in life. i told him to practice more since practice makes perfect. i said if others can do it you can do it. few weeks ago he started studying violin lessons. the first 2 weeks i wasnt able to accompany him since i was sick. he was stress and his fingers were naninigas. he told me he cant read notes and cant understand what i did was to teach him how to read notes and encourage him more and told him hes a gifted artist since hes a painter and he can also excel in music. for us mothers our presence and support matters to our kids most. impressed nga ang teacher nya sa violin ngayon dahil madali nya nakukuha ang piyesa at magaling na sya magviolin. balance lang ang kailangan. time to play, study, read and recreation. observe mo lang ang kid mo kung saan siya magaling o interesado from that support him all through out.

ang 7 year old ko, sis ganyan din. Ano ba gagawin natin?

Totoo, inaantok palagi in the afternoon! hay! Tapos, di naman kaya ng pang umaga because, late magising.

Isang culprit ko, too much TV. So, nag limit na ako ng TV to 2 hours per day. 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour in the PM. 30 minutes sa iPad/gadgets.

Etong boy ko lang for now. Hoping ma-outgrow nila.

they say that boys have a more difficult time focusing compared to girls, only because they're wired differently. have you actually considered having him assessed by a dev ped? it doesn't hurt, besides, it will help you know more about your child. :)

i would recommend francis dimalanta, he holds clinic in both st luke's QC and global.

^ Not really.  My kids see a developmental pedia regularly even though they do not have any developmental or behavioral issues. I just want to be pro-active about their development.  My kids see Dr. Tippy Tanchanco at Medical City.

I think having your child checked by a developmental pedia is a good idea. You will know your kid's development, whether he is ahead or delayed somewhere or if behavior is still normal or not etc...
My son sees Dr. Joel Lazaro at Asian Hospital. :)

^ same here... my son's preschool directress recommended this to us and we found a dev pedia in las pinas... the assessment helped us zero in on what areas we should be focusing on in terms of my son's development... in the coming weeks, we'll be starting therapy na and i'm hoping we'll see improvements quickly...

I suggest you enroll your son to a school na small size ang klase like a montessori then a follow-up to development pedia will help a lot.

Result? 3rd Honor awardee sya!  ;D

I think sis baka kasi bored ang anak mo? Ang sabi sa akin find the right motivation, and of course proper activity. Also, read up on teaching techniques. Minsan kapag masyadong traditional ang schools they don't see the potential of kids, pirme sa traditional method. Option rin to send our kids to a more progressive school, baka kasi mas better ang fit.

We desperately had him assesed by a psychologist. Kasi disruptive daw sa class super hyper daw. Well the result was my kid has no problem. Sa school niya ang may problem. Walang proper stimulation. I talked to the school na if they were willing to have some changes or additional work for him. Pero it's been a week. No answer pa din from them. Parang walang nangyari.
Wala nakong gana pumunta sa ptc nila. My hubby insisted we should still go. His dr avised him to have him tutored cause he is very bright an bored at school.  Our worry is baka magclash sa school niya. I really want him to be pulled out in school na.

this is my concern right now, P (my baby) ay kulang sa focus sa school :-\, what she does is, pag nag ka-klase na sila sa school she usually stays more time sa mat then after pupunta siya sa teacher nya to do her seatwork, parang nagiging one on one sila, ayaw nya nakikisabay sa mga classmate nya, pero minsan naman gusto nya ::), pag sing and dance hindi mostly nakikisali pero alam nya naman yung song. It's her first time sa school and progressive yung way ng teaching, I was advise to seek DP which is okay lang naman sa akin, everything is normal yung focus nya lang talaga sa room ang nahihirapan kame, sometimes pag alphabet she gets bored, naiiyak pero other than that, alam na nya lahat at eager siya.

@miksha - IMHO, as long as okay naman ang grades ng anak mo, there's no need to worry. Kung nanghihinayang ang mga teachers mo na "he can actually do better pa" if he focuses, ask their help in developing this as having focus is achieved through practice. Minsan kailangan lang din ng time for this to bloom, especially sa boys. At tutal mataas ang grades, isipin mo nalang na partida pa nga yon, wala pa yang focus, mataas pa rin ang grades  8) Sa bahay, tulungan mo rin syang madevelop ito, like have him do a chore with him focusing on that task alone. If his attention is caught by outside stimuli, remind him to go back to his task and finish it, and then praise him for focusing. Show him too the difference between a work that he placed keen attention to vs a work that he didn't, and then praise him for a job well done  :)  Kahit isang chore lang araw-araw, with you cheering for him to focus on the task at hand, in no time, he'll give enough focus to any of his work.

Wala din syang focus  during his preschool days. Pinatignan namin sya sa dev ped sa St. Lukes and we  found out na may mild ADHD with Dyslexia ang son ko. Nag undergo sya sa therapy and happy kami sa result. His grade 1 now in regular school  top 5 sya.
