Flickering Lights (Poetry)
« on: April 06, 2012, 01:44:09 am »
I have a difficult time with fiction that can satisify mymown standars but I do write poetry from time to time. :) I've written the following for a friend. She was going through a break-up, and I wanted to encourage her a bit. I hope it will help if you're going through the same. (I have experimented with a little bit more morbid theme after this.  :P )

Some have commented that the rhyming I used is a little immature for the content, but It was somewhat intended to adapt an innocent-ish, weak-ish persona.

Flickering Lights
Darkness is my fear and my greatest dread is the dark.
the absence of a glow is my madness, stark.
Darkness is chaos, covered by blindness.
Not knowing what to do is the mark of darkness.
How cold can the darkness be.
In darkness I cannot even see.
oh the fear in the hours of wee!

Yet flickering lights turn off and on
A flash of a second there is light and then gone
the panic reaches through my bones!
Yet flickering lights turn off and on
Being this way for a time so long,
I get used to the flickering lights truning off and on.

Perhaps I must stop thinking of darkness
if it is possible or if it is madness.
Besides the flickering lights help me cope
with an ephemeral brightness that gives me hope
the boundless abyss seem to be more finite after all.
and if I take a step and walk, perhaps I won't fall.

The flickering lights turn off and on.
Life is the flickering lights turning off and on.
Even without me it goes on and on.
So might as well face it right on.
So that I as well, may go on and on.

By those flickering lights we must not fear
Because the lights might just flicker
But only an optimistic perception will say
That the light had been turned on for a very long time

-- hi, I just made a small reply to your poem. I'm new btw, I'm Ana. Btw, what happened to your friend? Did she already move on from the guy?
