Thank you Wabbypretty for the feedback!! It's ok I plan to have a super simple 5 layer cake, all white. So I suppose Toy Cakes will be able to execute it. Cheaper pa din talaga Toy Cakes vs Hearts and Bells noh?  Not by much, but I remember 6 Layers na the 17500 with Toy Cakes VS 18000 for 5 layers (with super plain design) with Hearts and Bells.

I'm not really sure if Toy Cakes is cheaper than Hearts and Bells. I was decided on getting Hearts and Bells coz i thought they were the cheapest. Yung nga lang chef kiko had a promo last year, and super mura ng offer. So I got him instead. If plain white cake lang naman with a few details, I am sure he should have no problem with that.
Try mo rin sis to visit Hearts and Bells on bridal fairs, as far as I remember they offer 20% off or a free extra layer if you book them sa fair.  :)

hello mga sis, ma recommend ko na cake supplier, DEXTERS. hindi sila sumasali sa mga Bridal fairs, pero sila kasi gumawa ng cake namin, tie up sila with the palms country club alabang, sobrang LIKE ko yung design nung cake, its a 3 layered cake na 18 inches tall, fondant & yummy siya, edible lang ang base part pero masasabi ko na sulit :)   if you want to see the cake, meron sa fb page ko just look

^In my 1st wedding many years ago... Dexter's also ang kasama sa package of Makati Shang. OK the designs, pero I remember medyo expensive sila compared to others at that time. Kaya I didnt upgrade the 3 layer cake included in the Shang package.

Does anyone have an idea for a radically different wedding cake? Originally planning to get a very very simple 3-layer all white cake, but it would still be 7-8k and i just cannot justify in my head how a cake thats only bottom edible can cost 7k when there are perfectly good cakes well below 1k in most bakeshops. Hehe this led me and fiance to thinking we want to do away with the cake or just have it even simpler than we originally planned since we do not care much about it. The savings i will get from this would be better spent on other wedding items!

I've seen cupcake towers, doughnut cakes, even ones made of cream puffs-- which i guess are all pretty to look at and good for sharing but we dont really think we'd end up sharing the cake to our 200-250 guests. So we want something small, super simple--- does anyone have other ideas? :)

sparklingjewel, we're not doing a cake at all. We have eight desserts, I feel like that's definitely enough sugar for the night haha. I'd probably have served a giant peanut butter cup if I could get away with it.

Do you guys have a favourite dessert -- a cake or pie or whatever -- that you can have in place of a wedding cake? The most unusual one I've seen at a real wedding was stacked wheels of cheese, which were cut up for post-dessert cheese platters.

sparklingjewel, Joy San Gabriel makes really delicious all edible cakes :) Her 3-layer starts from 13k, which is a bit costly, but it's sooooo worth it.

If you have budget for something fancier, Alex Franco's cakes are also very good. Personally, I prefer Joy SG's -- simply for aesthetics (because I prefer simpler styles) and of course, cost!

sevenstars: Ive also seen a "cheese" cake... or a cheese wheel cake!! Awesome idea!! =) Although I dont know where to order one hehe  But that is something we can really bring home and enjoy eating everyday for many months! I think it is more suited though for rustic and outdoor weddings

A friend of ours also used wheels and blocks of cheese in lieu of a cake. So yummy!

I wanted to take out the cake also pero my fiance insists we follow tradition daw so we're most likely getting Karen's Kitchen to do a simple carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, maybe 2 or 3 tiers and some flowers for decor. The whole thing's going to be edible. Lol! Our budget's 5-5.5k and we're serving it to the PS and entourage :)

I think I might splurge a bit on our cake just because I am not having a stage backdrop or couple's area made and so the cake will be part of our decor. I am even thinking of just having chairs placed beside our cake where we can sit during the speeches. Hehe

hehe I dont care about the taste though, and I am out to find the cheapest and tallest 5 layer cake LOL

This is so funny!! Hahaha make it just bottom edible para cheap ;)

^reese17 Honestly we feel that wedding cakes are so overpriced so i think better nga to get yours done by a normal bakeshop. My fiance wants a macadamia wedding cake (but white i guess) by Gay Vasquez hehe i might just inquire for a 2-3 tier one! :)

I've tasted Joy's, super yummy i agree! But i really want to scrimp on the wedding cake rather than splurging on it! Haha or maybe scrimp by just going a different route not removing it altogether :)

Hmm we're not into exotic cheeses, but i do feel a strong urge to do something totally out of the box--- we'll have to think of this more :) Thanks so much for the inputs!!!

Chili, problema lang if it's really nice cheese baka more expensive pa than doing a cake! lol. I never thought about the fact that you could take all the cheese home... yum! Now I wish I was having one hehe.

reese, I love carrot cake! And I think you really get a tastier result by ordering a non-wedding cake. :) I'm jealous, I wanted carrot cake to be part of our dessert station but my fiance said no one would eat it except me and my maid of honour. :P

i'm having 15 mini-cakes for each table and then a single-layer cake as the main wedding cake.

i've seen several macaron towers in lieu of wedding cakes and they look very pretty and definitely will taste as good.

another idea is to have pies instead of cakes.

Can someone post the rates of Joy San Gabriel and Alex Franco?

tried Joy San Gabriels cakes in a bridal fair grabe ang sarap! pero hindi ko kaya mag splurge ng 13k sa cake. we got ours free from Juan Carlo. its from Top Cakes daw. 3 layer cake pero yun 1st layer lang edible. as in half lang ng 1st layer yung edible hahaha! sa cake topper naman niregalo ng friend ko sakin since shes into baking. dami natuwa. ayos pa until now

Got Joy SG's rates at a bridal fair. Her rates start from 13k for an all edible 3-layer cake. That's her minimum. Even if it's a bit pricey, I find it value-worthy since we'll be transforming the cake to serve as part of the dessert. Parang nadagdagan din ng 3 different mini cakes yung dessert buffet namin :)

I forget where my sister (who will be paying for our cake, as her wedding gift) got Alex Franco's rates. Basta it was 25k and above for all edible cakes. His rates are really steep, but it seems like there's unanimous opinion that his cakes are just uber delicious.
