Money will be a great help and start for people who have just entered into a marriage. Gifts given on a wedding are often meaningless and useless, eventually thrown away. We openly told our entourage and guests that we prefer cash as wedding well-wishes than tangible items.  All of them are aware naman that we are moving into a condo that we got that's already fully-furnished right after the wedding.  So, gets rin nila na adding more items/appliances as a gift will give us a storage nightmare. 

But I guess, it also depends on who your guests are. If you're really close to them, you would know if asking for cash will sound off for them.
