Do u have a barkada in your new country?
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:16:01 am »
Ask ko lang coz lately medyo im bothered. na realize ko na wala pala akong barkada dito..yung type ba na pwede mong mayaya mag hang out kayo after office, weekends, etc...madami akong what you call friends-acquaintances, na matatakbuhan mo talaga pag may kelangan ka.  But u know what i mean like sa pinas meron talaga tayong girlfriends we can hang out with na di tayo mahihiya magyaya kahit busy pa.  Sa abroad kasi walang maid kaya ilap ka to invite semi-friends to hang out with you if you're bored.

If you have your own barkadas in your new country, please share naman how you developed thsoe relationships and where you met them???

Great thread sis! We've made great friends now here in Chicago, I've met one thru GTalk (coolchick) and most of them thru another forum (pinoyexchange). There was a Chicago thread there before, i think it's still there but wala na saming active dun. We met at a local Chinese restaurant, Jan 2009 yun! We happened to be all in the same age, tas mga wala pang kids, so we got along great! :) We're meet mostly every weekend, pare-parehas mahilig kumain at manood ng sine and makakati ang paa! We've been to many places with them, nag-Cali, Vegas, Florida, South Dakota na kami. And then other times na hindi kami kasama, they went to Seattle and Vancouver. We spend holidays together kaya masaya naman kahit malayo sa family.

Tas network na din to their other pinoy friends, na naging friends na din namin. God is good to us, He let us meet great people while we're away from home.

meron na din akong friends dito sa sg. kasi may dati akong kabarkada from pinas na nauna sa akin and may network of friends na din sya. so nagpa adopt nalang ako.  ;D

but di kasi ako mahilig magtambay after work. may asawa na rin kasi. i just want to go home directly after office para magrest. and weekends i love spending it sa apartment lang. ok na ako sa lifestyle ko pero di eto uubra kung nasa pinas ako.  :D

So it will all start sa lugar kungsan ka nalalagi. Try to be extra friendly sa paligid mu and get to know them. It will all start sa mga casual na tanong like taga-sila..ano plano nila sa weekend, or san binili ang damit nila..purihin mu sila ganunn. It will all start like that and before you knwo it yayayain ka na nilang lumabas and then will be a start of a good friendship. Wag mu muna ipapakita ang sungay mu hehe, like yung pagka snob mu or pagka maldita mu. Tago mo muna yun so you will gain friends.

Dati before we moved to the west coast, our friends were old friends na namin dati pa sa pinas. Now after the move, I am so lucky naman na meron akong kakilala na from college na dito na nakatira sa nilipatan namin. Mostly yung may ma meet kami thru hubby's work.

I had a barkada when I was living abroad. I lived in a house full of foreigners and we belong to the same organization. Kaya nagkaroon ako ng mga close friends inside and outside our org. :)

I wanna have my own set of friends din sana dito sa Dubai, pero konti lang kameng Pinay dito sa office namin kaya wala masyado.

yup kaso bihira lang kami nagkakasama kahit nga sa fb di kami nagkakausap. iba-iba kami ng lahi though. i like it that way, walang pressure saka di naman din ako mahilig maglalabas.

Yeah sometimes it's good to be alone or have just one friend at least kasi mahirap magtiwala lalo sa abroad... minsan kapwa mo pa pinoy maglalaglag sayo... pero di pa naman nangyayari sa kin un... thank god! siguro dati nung nasa england ako backstabban kami ng mga so called friends ko... ang daming sinasabi kay ganito ganyan... pero kung sa saya masaya naman ang may barkada... un nga lang mahirap talaga magtiwala... sa case ko ngayon ako lang kasi ang nag iisang pinoy sa trabaho ko kaya wala akong friends... acquaintances lang pero i dont hang out with them after work... although i want to.. given the chance.. but we'll see.. im not keeping my doors closed to them naman... :)

I found my second family here in SG. They are my churchmates actually pero since kami na ang laging magkakasama most of the time, para na talaga kaming magkakapatid. One of the reasons kung bakit madali din ako nakaadjust sa life dito kasi I don't feel lonely.  ;D

Ako rin more on friends ng hubby ko sa NY. I've heard horror stories on pinoys here but more on sa workplace. So far mababait mga friends ng asawa ko but they don't know each other that well yet, sa bbq at birthday party ko palang sila nakasama. Siguro pag nagstart narin ako magwork I'll be able to make more friends.

Ever since migrating here in  the states when i  was just  11, i  met really good friends that became my barkada na din kaso  since I grew up in a white neighborhood at kami lang ang Pinoys  at that  time , ayun ako  lang ang Pinay sa group  and most of my  barkada  are caucasians from  Italian , German, Swedish and Irish ancestry.

Even nag grad na from high school we kept in touch pa din kahit we all went to  different Colleges and Universities, we just just  hang out pag Sem break.
