Child negativism or mother and mini-skirts
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:44:59 pm »
I am 23 years old. My son is 4 years old (will be 5 in March). He dislikes my mini-skirts. Once when I, my boyfriend, and my son were going to visit our friends, my son refused to go out, because as he said "mum put on too short skirt". Is his reaction normal? How can I explain him that I like mini-skirts? What is the reason of his behavour?
My boyfriend says: kids often repeat things that they have heard and pick up on strong emotions or tabboo subjects.
I think it may be child jealousy.

Priceless

Why do you say your child is expressing jealousy? Jealous of whom? You? Why do you think that is the case? Does your child want to be like you (i.e. wear short skirts as well)?

Perhaps your child wants you to dress more conservatively?

How short are your mini-skirts by the way? Are these (1) Age appropriate (2) Occasion appropriate (3) Culture appropriate?

You're a single parent, right? The boyfriend is not your kid's father?

If you decided not to wear mini-skirts, would your kid refuse to go out with you and your boyfriend?

If you are wearing mini-skirt and your boyfriend isn't around, would your kid be willing to go out with you?

Does your son come up with a lot of many other reasons just to get away from your boyfriend when your boyfriend is with you?

If you had answered YES to the above questions, then your child may be jealous of your BF.

i dont think he's being jealous, unless nagaact-up lang siya ng ganun pag andyan bf m.

he's already 5 (well almost) and wag mong masyadong inaunder estimate ang pag-iisip ng mga bagets ngayon. maybe he's just being protective, you're his mom and maybe napapansin niya ang hindi mo napapansin. like a lot of guys maybe looking at you, or he don't see other moms wearing skirts as short as yours. i know you're a young mom, but you have a little boy... i suggest kapag kasama mo siya maging extra careful k lang s pagpili ng outfit mo...

talk to him first kung bakit ganun reaction niya, im sure may reason yan.

Priceless

...and what if the child says, "Mum, you look like a hooker..."

I agree with this. When my kid was about that age, alam na rin niya na may mga bagay na hindi maganda. Napagsasabihan din ako and I get that same set of behavior (like a simple bra strap appearing). If that didn't come from you, then the child probably learned that through a good TV show, or he must have heard not-so-good impressions on you from his other playmates.

He could also be noticing the expressions of other people, strangers and friends alike/ He did not like what he sees from the faces of other people when you are in a mini-skirt.

You're a mom now. You can still make a good impression without wearing a mini-skirt. I've seen a lot of other girls do this (and had guys drooling after them) even if they are dressed conservatively. It's more difficult to explain to the kid what you insist (that is, that you like wearing mini-skirts) rather than just picking an equally impressive but "safe" outfit.
