hi! sis sarahsensible.. congratulations on making it with UP-CDC. how old are your twins? can i ask the status of their enrollment at UP-CDC? thanks and God bless!

sis, my son studied in cdc since he was 1 hanggang 5 years old. dati ang classes ng cdc up to 6's pero tinanggal na nila. love ko ang cdc dahil i graduated sa flcd (the dept. that handles cdc) pero i have to be honest, hindi ako masiyado naging happy sa academic progress ng son ko dun especially pagdating sa writing. when i applied my son sa ibang progressive school for prep, sabi sakin nung mga nag-interview samin ganon din daw talaga karamihan ng mga applicants nila na galing sa cdc. this is the common complaint talaga sa cdc. i think kaya tinanggal nila ang 6's class (katumbas ng prep sa ibang school) kasi pagdating sa grade 1 e talagang hindi pa ready yung mga cdc kids.

consider mo ilipat yung kids mo by the time mag-5 years old sila, sis. maraming progressive school na magaling din naman sa academics (like learning tree). ang cdc kasi more on building confidence, self esteem, establishing critical thinking and reasoning, etc. cdc will really give your kids the best foundation. they will teach your kids to love learning and to be social and outgoing. i think that's great until mga 4 years old ang kids. after that, parang mas magbe-benefit na sila sa progressive school na strong din ang academics to prepare them for grade school.

pwede mo ring gawin, ikaw na lang mag-supplement nung academic training nila if you're up for it. minsan kasi ang hirap din maglipat dahil siyempre mapapamahal na yung mga kids mo sa mga classmates and teachers nila. kaya din hindi ko nailipat anak ko until talagang mag-move up siya.

tip ko sa mga moms na gusto pumasok sa cdc - the younger your kids, the easier to get in. mas madami kasi talaga nag-aagawan sa slots ng 3-year-olds pataas dahil yun ang common age for preschool, di ba? nung inapply ko yung son ko, he was only 1 year old and 3 lang ata kaming applicants.

^UP Alumna ka sis? UP din kami ni hubby  Manila nga lang si hubby ako Diliman.

anyway, hay naku sis yang writing issue na yan napagusapan na namin ng hubby ko. Eh si hubby hindi traditional type na kailangan sumipag sa pag write lalo na boys pa naman itong kambal namin basta iba ang pananaw ni hubby sa ganyan eh. Actually ako din.. but we will see. Yes kilala ng mom ko ang mga taga Learning Tree. Actually inisip pa nga namin ang COLF eh.

Kung pag supplement lang dito sa bahay, walang problema kasi for almost a year tipong naka "home schooling" sila then playgroup.

Then itong sa CDC as we tried applying my twins nga, nakuha naman sila pareho.

yes, i'm a UP grad. flcd grad actually. yung hubby ko UP grad din. classmates kami sa chem 16. haha.

with regards to the academics issue, i'm not just talking about writing as in yung technical skill. i'm talking about writing as in creative writing. when we took a tour sa learning tree, they showed us yung mga work ng older preschool kids nila. i was so impressed kasi they have journals where they write stories and essays and things like that. even the art work that i saw displayed parang mas higher level. they also have music and sports programs (as most preschools do) na wala sa cdc. sa prep school naman ng son ko, natuwa ako sa science lessons nila. they do science experiments and they even had a science fair. they don't have any of those sa cdc or kung meron man, hindi ganon ka-in depth. kaya i really feel like the older kids in cdc miss out on a richer academic experience.

you have to remember that cdc is an experimental school and it's main purpose is really to teach the college students of flcd. everything they do is geared towards teaching and training the flcd students. compare that to a school na ang talagang purpose and focus is to teach the kids.

anyway, you know what's best for your kids. observe mo na lang sila maigi. if they're thriving naman in cdc, then that's great. like i said, i still think cdc is a good school. good luck, sis!

A friend from UPIS says marami syang classmates from UP CDC than UP PAUW. I haven't asked kung kumusta naman ang classmates nya from UP CDC.

Thanks for informing us early sis. Na challenge ako ah, lalo na you mentioned creative writing eh isa yan sa fave ko at least ma turuan ko at matutukan namin ang mga bata pag nagkataon na ganyan or beforehand.

Speaking of flcd, my mom who used to work in UP wants me to take up a course dyan sa flcd LOL ewan ko ba sabi ko maybe it's not for me. Masaya na akong maging makeup artist at the same time tutok sa kids ko

I hope meron pang ibang makapag bigay ng feedback. A friend from UPIS says marami syang classmates from UP CDC than UP PAUW. I haven't asked kung kumusta naman ang classmates nya from UP CDC.

i'm sure other people will have different opinions. we have different expectations and priorities naman kasi, di ba? i just wanted to share my point of view in case it might help you in any way. i hope hindi naman ako sobrang buzzkill, i know you're excited about your kids going to cdc. i felt the same way when my son got in and i don't regret that it was his first school. cdc really gave him a good start in his educational life.

that's funny kasi mom ko din nag-push sakin na mag-flcd. later on, i realized na hindi siya for me as a career pero na-appreciate ko din naman yung mga natutunan ko dun kasi naa-apply ko sa pagiging mommy.

no. we ended up not enrolling him there kasi sa cubao yung preschool nila and it's medyo out of the way for us.

^sis [textspeak!] summer class ba nila it was recommended after your observation? My son got a call last week since Meron daw available slot and he's first in the list. Observation Nya is on April 16-18 then right after pwede na daw kami magenroll. How old is your son pala? Age 4.5 son ko by June.

wow galing! congrats! nag summer fun lang din daughter ko this SY eh, di kasi kami nabunot kasi 2 slots lang available for her age tapos waitlist pa! eh mahigit 20 ata ang applicants. she's only 3.5y/o. sana next year mabunot na kami. kung hindi, we'll try UP PAUW. kasi nung nag inquire kami dun may sure slot na agad pero hindi lang namin kinuha...

schools i consider - kinderhaus, raya, UP PAUW, learning tree... pero first choice ko pa din UP CDC kasi based sa summer fun, super nag enjoy yung daughter ko dun...

^^Tumawag ako sa UP CDC, Feb 26, 27, 28 daw application. Draw lots on Feb28. Ngayon pa lang, I'm keeping my fingers crossed
