Health Plan/ Health Care Program
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:58:30 pm »
Hi sa inyo!  :)

Have you heard about Insular I-Heal plan? How about Insular I-Care card?

Eto yun explanation nun nag reply sa website inquiry ko -

I-Care is an entirely owned subsidiary of Insular Life. It is a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that offers one of the industry’s most comprehensive healthcare programs in the market with the flexibility to meet specific needs of its members. It offers Corporate and Individual HMO Package, Cost-Plus Programs (Administrative Services only), and the newly developed Out-Patient Clinic Products. On the other hand, I-Heal is Insular Life’s health savings plan. More than the health security it offers, it provides life insurance coverage equal to 125% of equivalent basic annual premiums paid or the remaining health fund, whichever is lower.

Interested ako kumuha ng health plan sa Pinas pero hindi ko alam kung saan company. Ayoko ng Philam kasi annual renewal... My parents have Caritas, though.  :-\

i think maganda ang insular..ive read from some forum maganda din ang kaiser...piece of advice, if ayaw nyo ng sakit ng ulo, then dont ever get Caritas Health Shield.  they will use every loopholes they can think of para di mo ma-maximize ang plan mo. you are expecting that medyo di malaki ang gastos sa hospital because may hmo naman pero its the other way around with caritas. sa mother-in-law ko, we ended up paying the whole amount of the hospital bill coz Caritas gave so many excuses and cited so many policies and yet ni isa sa mga policies na sinabi nila, [textspeak!] silang maipakita. confidential daw....
parang lalo lang magkakasakit with caritas

May Health Plus from Manulife. 20pay entire life (age 100) consumable coverage.

Up to age 100? Mukhang ok to ah hehe ;D

Ok ba let's say meron life insurance with VUL at kukuha rin ng HealthPlus? Yun life insurance with vul kasi ay until age 88 lang.  Thanks.

Ah talaga? Caritas pa naman ang hmo ng parents ko... ginagamit nila for annual executive check ups.

Thanks for the heads up.  :)

Hi girls!
I'm currently researching on the most appropriate health care plan for my parents. So far, ang mga napagtanungan ko pa lang ay Maxicare, Insular Care and ValuCare. Caritas was also on my list but I striked it out because I have read a lot of negative reviews about them.
A lot of good reviews have been said about Maxicare pero sobrang mahal ng premium! :o As the member moves up to a higher age bracket, mas lalong tumataas ang premium (i.e. iba ang premium for 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, etc.) When I computed the amount that I have to shell out for the premiums for both of my parents (Platinum plan, P100,000 maximum benefit limit/illness), aabutin ako ng P1.7M until they reach the age of 65 years old! :o It's too much!
For Insular care naman, the premium is lower than Maxicare but its not high on my list because my trusted hospital in the province is not accredited under them.
Personaly, for me, pina-okay ang Valucare. Reasonable ang premium and the premium doesn't change drastically as you move higher in the age bracket (18-40, 41-50, 51-60). I stll have some clarifications to make pa though from the agent about the pre-existing conditions, etc. And mas strict pala sila sa requirements for enrollees na 40 y.o. and above (may Pap smear and peripheral blood smear pa!) I tried to research din some feedbacks/reviews about them but I have only found a couple of psoitive feedbacks tapos wala na. Other than that, I'm highly considering Valucare for my family. Accredited din kasi yung hospital na gusto ko.  :)
Anyone here has something to say about Valucare? By the way, I have to check Manulife pala. Ok yung Health Plus nila. Will update you soon girls pag may bago akong naresearch! :)

I've been searching for a good health insurance/health card/health plan for me and husband since forever. But since both of us are freelancers, talong-talo kami sa individual premiums unlike those who are employed in companies and get the low group rates.

Research ako ng research but the more I know, the more I see how much is excluded, how much red tape you have to go through and how many loopholes there are in the contract. I also started looking at the maximum deductible limit -- usually 50K, 100K or 200K lang. Eh I'm thinking, I can easily save up that amount. Then if I have to use it, I can use it any way I want to. No paperwork, no exclusions, no questions asked (plus, clinics and hospitals usually prioritize those who pay cash). If I don't have to use it, then well and good, I can just put it aside for another year. I can make it earn a little pa in short-term funds and I don't have to pay a single centavo for premiums.

The only one that looks to be worth it is Blue Cross. The annual premium is as low as P5,000 to under P7,000 only for 21 between 40 years of age for a P500,000 maximum coverage (the lowest coverage). And if you get the co-pay plan, you can get an even lower premium. You can choose any hospital and doctor you prefer pa. The catch with Blue Cross is that they're reimbursement type -- you have to shell out cash. But that low premium for that high coverage is unbeatable.

As for those health plans that cover up to age 100, for me, they're very limiting. The older members of my family are often hospitalized but they're never long term, never due to the listed dreaded diseases, never require ICU and never need surgery. So if they had this plan, makuha lang nila is the daily income of what, 500 or 1000 pesos (when their average bill is around 30K)? Those values are hardly anything now, paano pa kaya when WE get older?

Tapos you pay for so long, 20 years, and then they only give you 1 up to 5 million as your coverage. Bawas na nga sila ng bawas from that, the money isn't earning pa. For me, I'd rather invest the premiums I would've paid for a plan like this and get at least DOUBLE the maximum coverage they're offering without any of the limits they've placed.

The thing is, I hope that I've saved and invested that amount before I actually need it. But then you don't really go out and buy an insurance product and hope that you need it immediately -- sure, it's the BEST return on an investment but omg, so sadistic.

So that's why I think Blue Cross is the best -- it's a small amount that goes a long way in protecting and giving peace of mind. Hindi yung nagkakandahirap ka to pay premiums or masayangan ka sa binayad mo kapag 'di mo nagamit.

Have you been able to get a plan from Blue Cross? How was it?
Is it like regular HMO plans where you also have dental benefits
and out patient consultations?

When I was still running my own web consulting shop a few years ago, the only health insurance we could pay for was Blue Cross as well. IIRC, premiums were at around 10k, abd they'll only cover confinement, thru reimbursement. Outpatient consultations you'll have to pay out of your own pocket, as you go. For the freelancer, this seems to be the most viable option. And what do you know I actually got to use it. Paid via card muna sa hospital then claim from Blue Cross, I think I got back about 80%.
Now I have HMO Intellicare at work but don't always like the selection of doctors so I go out-of-pocket pa din. Healthplus by Manulife also.

I have Maxicare for both my parents, and the premium was very high kahit na may discount na from the company. But yung benefits naman, I think is worth it kahit hindi pa talaga nila magamit kasi pre-existing yung mga sakit nila.

My problem is, pag nagasawa na ako. Which will maybe 2-4 years from now. Malapit na kasi mag 60 si Papa kaya baka di na sya pwede sa healthcare by the time na magasawa ako, or sobrang laki na ng premium?

Any suggestions?

I am currently self-employed so it's difficult for me to be a member of any HMOs out there. I was able to research about insular life's I-Heal policy and I think they have a pretty good offer. Just waiting for one of their agent's proposal now.

Wow, ngayon ko lang nabasa 'to. It's okay, I guess, but I haven't claimed from them for anything yet (thank god). Their core plan is in-patient. The dental and outpatient benefits are extra. I only have the core plan, since the extra ones would make my premium way to expensive. I can pay for dental and outpatient things myself anyway.

I chose Blue Cross because I get to choose any doctor and hospital I want, which is vital for me since I travel to different provinces a lot. No existing regular HMO has the comprehensive accredited network of providers that I require; most are just based in Manila.

Hi, sis. I have availed of Kaiser Healthcare. PM me if you have any questions. I'll try my best to answer it. :) I like it kasi may life insurance na component. And, you can transfer it to your beneficiaries if ever na deds ka at nagamit na yung life insurance na part. It also covers hospitals na hindi accredited although part lang ng total gastos mo. I'll be here lang for your queries.

^ Hi sis! I opted to go with the 7-yr plan kasi mas malaki yung returns. Meron din 5-yr plan yung Kaiser. Yung 7-yr plan nila is a new offer.
