Overcharging for field trip?

Hi mga sis, hope you could shed some light

My grade 1 kid is having a field trip at La mesa Eco Park and magsswimming din daw sila dun. They're charging us 1k for the student and addl 1k for the accompanying parent. Syempre kung swimming yun, my son would really require na may kasama.

Pero parang too much naman ata yung 2k for having a field trip to La Mesa Eco park since I noticed their rates are just below 100 pesos for entrance and swimming.

I thought about not going and sabi we stilll need to pay 1k even if we're not going kasi for the van rental daw. Is that even legal? Is there something in DOLE rules that says they cant overcharge on field trips or the like?

Parang ang mahal considering it's only 1 stop plus it's only a van and not a bus nor a coach. My kid had her field trip yesterday and they went to a doll factory in pasig and 2 other stops in Pasay. We had to pay Php 890 if you're coming with the bus or Php 600 if you're bringing a car. If you're not joining, no need to pay.

But consider too that the fees you're paying will also cover for the teacher plus other incidentals like parking fees, etc. How many students are there in your kid's class? If madami, then more people will be sharing for the payment of the van. Hence, the rate should be lower. Kasi in my kid's school, they were only 15 students.

For the upcoming field trip of my sons, we have to pay Php850 per person (so P1,700 per child + chaperone), excluding food.  The trip will be to Museo Pambata and Dolljoy factory (hey Ally, same sa field trip ni S  ).  The school hired a tourist bus and I understand that the cost is for the tour package. 

However, there is no requirement to join the field trip, more so to pay for the cost even though the child will not join the trip.

hi! parang mahal nga ang field trip nila.

kami naman nag field trip last november, php1200 ang fee. bale php php2400 binayad namin kasi 2 kami ng anak ko. ang mga pinuntahan namin ay Philippine science centrum, hinulugang taktak, via dolorosa (ganda pala dito, station on the cross na parang nasa bundok, nakakapagod lang talaga), house of santa.

hindi din kailangan magbayad ang mga hindi sasama.

In my son's school, the cost of the field trip was already included in his school fees so when the school announced the field trip (itinerary included dolljoy factory, muntinlupa fire station near festival mall), I didn't have to shell out any cash na.  Even the costume for their annual school affair was already charged to the school fees at the start of the school year, we only had to claim his costume for their school affair.

My rule on school field trips fees really hinge on the following: the trip should be educational, accessible/in proximity (if the school is located in the south, I don't think it is wise to send preschoolers to the north side) and reasonable.

When my son was in playschool, I really voiced these things out to the parent-teacher meeting coz some parents wanted the field trip in qc or in manila, hello, traffic lang talo na.Di porket may magandang zoo or museum sa north, papapuntahin mo na ang mga three yr. olds. Kaya minsan mahal masyado ang fees dahil naman sa layo ng pinipili na locations.Tsaka dapat age-appropriate yung pupuntahan na places.I don't think a preschooler will appreciate museums (except kid friendly ones) or historical sites as much as a grade school student would.

Exactly, we're from the south sis and I don't think the site is worth it to go all the way to the north.

I actually just treated my son to Ocean Park last Sunday to make up for the fact na di sya makaksama. mas enjoy pa dun.

nakakainis naman yung school kasi. We know naman how much to pay from the start kaso they doubled the amount nung malapit na mag field trip

Daughter ko since G1 di ko pinapasama sa field trip kasi grabe sa mahal. this year sa seven lakes laguna sila P1500 each. Inexplain ko sa daughter ko na wala kaming pera naiintindihan naman niya

^Sa previous school ng anak ko (preschool),kahit hindi sumama kelangan magbayad ng P500 kahit let's say P650 kapag sumama. so pinapasama ko nalang kasi P150 lang difference

sis, kasi may cut ang school or teacher sa fieldtrip fee. believe it or not. i think masyadong mahal ang singil nila. sa school ng anak ko it's included na sa tuition kaya hindi masakit sa bulsa. pero OA naman ang eco park, 1K kahit pa may swimming. walang makikita dun. I'm from fairview and i have been there several times. puro puno, lake and may outdoor activities.

^oh that will be immoral for the school to do that..to get a cut for profit. parang walang kwentang school yan. i think if ever the school will overcharge that will be to cover the school's personnel (teachers, teacher aides) who will be joining the field trip.

 Ang mahal nga niyan. Nakakatawa naman yung school, di ba nila naisip na super obvious how big their "cut" is?

Entrance + swimming + tour at ecopark is only at Php 130 / person. Yung sa bus naman magkano lang dapat yon kasi if you divide the cost per head, maliit lang dapat yon.

Next week, field trip ng anak ko. Php 1,125 per person. Inclusions: Transportation, Entrance sa Rizal Shrine in laguna, Ride-all-you-can pass at Enchanted Kingdom PLUS lunch at jollibee (chicken and spag meal). At least alam kong sulit naman babayaran ko. Sa presyong yan may kita na yung travel agent. Katawa naman yang 1K para sa ecopark lang.

^^hunny_ally sorry to say mga sis pero yun ang kalakaran. May travel agency kami ng friend ko and ang focus talaga ay mga schools. we belong to a travel agency organization at ganun ang practice. May cut talaga ang school pati minsan teachers... pero di naman garapal! and hindi talaga pera (minsan lang)... more on free gala. at hindi naman ganyan kalaki ang patong! OA yan! usually tig P10 lang (sa P10 kung may 1,000 students ka, e di 10,000 yun).

2x na sumama anak ko sa field trip kasi ok naman mga pinupuntahan at kasali sa lesson. Gaya last year after nila pag aralan ano mga animals na pwedeng gawin pet, makikita sa farm, makikita sa zoo etc tsaka sila nagfieldtrip sa zoo.

Pero kapag mga star city, enchanted kingdom or moa (kasi laging maraming bus dito na obvious na nagpi-field trip) hindi ko papasamahin anak ko.

Yun sa moa may discovery center so medyo bukas pa ako pagbabago ng isip.


Yung bayad, ok lang sa akin kahit parang oa presyo basta wag lang yun kahit d sasama e magbabayad pa rin. Dapat choice at decision ng parents yan, hindi dapat i-impose lalo na kapag sobrang ba-bata pa ng students. Hindi lahat kaya na magbayad para sa 2 tao (am sure d tayo komportable na hindi natin samahan or pasamahan sa yaya mga anak natin) lalo na sa panahon ngayon.

I think OA talaga yung patong. I won't mention the school's name na, since it's just a branch and may iba silang patakaran from the "mother" school. Sana nalang they chose a more educational or fun location.

Pero this June I will definitely move my son to a better school, sa Divine Light (Las Piñas).

Soooo reading the thread parang normal na pala yung 1k++  na fee for a trip. 

For my daughter naman it's not a field trip but "family day".  This year N's school invited us to go to Earth Haven and it's in Rizal ata. They wants us to bring the whole family at 1,100/head. Since medjo marami kami mabubutas talaga bulsa namin if we go. Good thing we already have a planned out of plan trip the same weekend so it wasn't so hard to tell my daughter we couldn't join the family day.

Last year din 1st time mag field trip ng anak ko nasa Advanced Casa II sa isang private school dito sa Cainta, Rizal. We paid for P2,400.00 (para sa aming mag-ina na yan), at ito yung mga spots na binayaran:
-Avilon Zoo
-San Guillermo Sunken Church and Museum*
-Clark Eco Picnic Grounds*
-Rolling Tour Clark Air Base
-Creamline Ice Cream Factory*
-Clark Dino Island

*Hindi namin napuntahan yung San Guillermo Sunken Church and Museum. Days after the field trip, nagtanong ako sa adviser ng anak ko kung bakit hindi ito napuntahan. Ang dahilan n'ya, pinrioritize daw ng simbahan yung kasal na may same date sa field trip kasi mas "church-related" daw ang kasal.

*Mas matagal pa ang pinila namin sa labas ng factory which na 10 minutes kesa sa pag-iikot sa loob na tumagal lang ng wala pang 1 minute lieterally! Tapos yung factory na pinasok namin e parang doble lang ng 7-11 store.

Eto pa matindi, akala naming mga nakasakay sa bus na nagbibiro lang ang tour guide nang sabihin n'yang mag ready daw ng pera ang parents kasi mamimili daw sa Clark Duty free. Turns out yun pala talaga ang last stop namin nung gabi bago umuwi. Nakita ko yung pamilya ng mga nagpapatakbo ng school, 2-3 big carts yata ang napuno nila. WOW! Sino ang mas nakinabang? Haha!

Hindi kami na-inform days before ng filedtrip na may change of plans pala. Ni sa loob ng bus, walang paliwag (at least sa mga parents sa bus namin).

This February 5, nagkaron ulit ng field trip, P1,250 per head ang bayad. Hindi na kami sumama. Ayun, may mga hindi nanaman daw napuntahan. Mabuti na lang nagpunta kaming mag-anak sa isang eco park on the same day. Mas nag-enjoy pa kami, at hindi kami nakaubos ng 1K!
