Bacolod-Silay-Talisay (Negros Occidental) Thread 2

Nice to see there is actually a longer Bacolod thread.  Lots of helpful info here when I was backreading.

I'll be having my pre-Christmas vacation from November 25-December 4 and I'm thinking of getting lost in Bacolod....and continue getting lost all the way to Boracay to meet up with friends.  Basically, here's what my sched looks like:

Nov 25 - leave manila; arrive at Bacolod at 6am
Nov 26 - ?
Nov 27 - ?
Nov 28 - ?
Nov 29 - leave Bacolod; arrive at Iloilo, land travel to Caticlan/Boracay
Nov 30 - beach bum in Boracay
Dec 1 - leave Boracay; arrive at Romblon
Dec 2 - leave Romblon at night
Dec 3 - arrive at Batangas; land trip to Manila

So as you can see, there's 4 full days allotted for Bacolod up there.  I used to think 2 days is enough for Bacolod/Silay/Talisay and that I'd have to cut it short to explore either Roxas City or Kalibo.....but thanks to the info here, I think I can afford to stretch my Bacolod stay to 4 days.

Anyone going to Bacolod from the 25th to 28?

^hey there bro. i think sis tammy will be here in Bacolod on the 24th and until around noon on the 25th.  I'm based here in Bacolod and I think i'll be around on those dates.  Let me know if you need any help.

Usual things to do when in Bacolod.
a. Eat
b. Eat some more
c. Eat a whole lot more
d. Some sort of Culture Immersion by going to the museums & old houses in Silay
e. Go to The Ruins during the golden hour.  I've heard that it looks majestic during sunset
f. Go to Mambukal Mountain Resort and hike all the way up to the 7th waterfall
g. I'm really a bad tour guide since i usually just bring friends from Manila to restaurants

Here's a question, hoopchick..... Is there a pub-type place in Bacolod where I can sit, be comfy, just drink and listen to nice music?

I'm not really into clubbing where kids a full decade younger than me do their shenanigans.

(And neither am i into sleazy bars where middle-aged men cavort with GROs half their age.)

^hey bro. you may go to Pepe's or Sugartown Pub.

i know what you mean of clubs with kids who arent even old enough to drink.  i usually go to Pepe's both for the food and it turns into a bar at 10PM.  Sugartown Pub is kinda ok. The Art District is packed with kids only during weekends. During weekdays naman it's ok to go to Juja or 11Degrees. There's a restaurant called Mushu that's similar to Pepe's too.

if i just want to have the best sisig, ice cold beer and listen to 80's or 90's music i go to Kubo Sa Lawn. its an open air restaurant.

I made reservations with Ong Bun at Luzurriaga.  Nothing fancy.  I just hope I won't get mugged at night.

OngBun? uhmmm...Luzuriaga Street is not exactly the safest place at night. how much is your budget for accommodations? There are several pension houses that are safer. I actually havent heard of OngBun.

^ Well, I haven't made a deposit so I can still change my mind.  I'm actually looking to see if there are other lodging houses I can use as a backup plan in case Ong Bun turns out to be horrible.

Here are the few options you might want to consider:
a. Saltimboca (15th Street Lacson - behind the Balay Quince Bldg. where Calea is)
b. Casa Amparo Pension (near Robinson's Mall)
c. Pearl Manor (23rd street)

These 3 are all just along Lacson Street where a lot of the good restaurants are and yes you can basically walk from dinner to dessert to late night drinks.

i would recommend you to go to some of our white sand beaches but since you're going to Boracay you'd probably find it boring.  Most of our white sand beaches are in resorts with limited electricity and basically have no nightlife.

^ Yeah, I figured that since I would be beachbumming a lot in Boracay and Romblon anyway, I'd rather stick to non-beach attractions in Bacolod.

So far, my Bacolod itinerary looks like this:

Nov 25 - Silay and the Ruins
Nov 26 - Mambukal Resort
Nov 27 - ewan
Nov 28 - walking tour of Bacolod City

Any suggestions for my Nov. 27?

I guess i can advise you to just eat all day? i know i'd really make a bad tour guide of Bacolod City since all i do here is eat. and believe it or not i haven't been to the old houses in Silay and the Ruins. lol.

i'll think of something to fill your nov 27 IT.

^ If all else fails, I'd just get reallllllly drunk on the night of the 26th and take it easy the next day in a spa or something, haha

Mr.Punch, why don't you stay overnight in Mambukal? Else you are left with eating and drinking on the 27th hehe. You can also try Royal Am Rei, it's a small hotel along 13th Lacson if I remember it right. Across the street is Sorrento Plaza where Pepe's is located.

Hoopchick, Chris brought us to [textspeak!] but we can't remember how to go back there alone. But we've mastered going back and forth to Lord Byron's, we just love their back ribs!

@Mr. PUnch....you may add Sanders Coffee & Sausages to the list of joints where you can just chill & have a drink. Yes, you may want to stay overnight in Mambukal but you'd probably die of boredom.

@sis ayionick...yup Kubo Sa Lawn! a must try talaga yung sisig. lol so you frequented Lord Byron's huh. which reminds me i havent gone there for the more than a couple of months na.

Sis hoopchick..4 days na lang an we'll be in Bacolod. Medyo magulo pa ang itinerary namin kasi naging super busy ako these past 2 weeks. I'll be calling you once we arrive in Bacolod, I hope to see you.. We'll be staying in Go Hotels para malapit sa mall just in case we need anything we forgot to bring.. I was thinking of bringing a pasalubong for you, hehe..

Thanks sis, I hope you can also join us on the 24th on our way to Mambukal resort. Althou like what many have said, we have to leave early like around 5 or 6 am pwede na ba? hehe. Then we can go back around 2pm. Maybe you can join us after Mambukal, I would understand na hindi naman pwede pagisingin ka namin ng maaga hehe...See you soon sis, picture picture tayo..

I actually am interested in trying out the camping option in Mambukal.  But since I'll be doing Mt. Pulag on December 22nd, I thought I'd just satisfy my outdoorsy inclinations on that trip.  For Bacolod, I think I want the comforts of a bed.  But thanks.
