i have D5100 for more than a year & 7 months na. ok sya for beginner... although hindi ko rin naman nagagamit un video features nya but i'm planning to swap/trade in with D90. i know mas luma sya pero gusto ko lang un may motor na hehe. di ko pa kasi kaya mag-upgrade to D7000. my classmates in photography advised me to keep my D5100 kasi nga maganda un features, di pa naman ako pro para mag-2 bodies at wala akong budget.

^^^ id' go for canon. mas maraming service center sa pinas kesa nikon.  for the other question above I'd go for Canon D60

basically it's a mixture of three things
- ISO
Ito yung sensitivity sa light nung camera, the higher you set the ISO tha sharper the image yun nga lang pag sobrang tapos minsan nagkakaroon ng noise sa image - yung iba iba color na dots kagay ng sa tv pag mahina signal, mas darker mas taasan mo ang ISO pero wag mo sagarin second to the last lagi ang max mo na iset for ISO pag kailangan mo talaga ng mas mataas.  If you set your ISO higher you need less exposure (i.e. faster shutter speed).

- Aperture 
ito yung opening ng lens mo, this dictates how much light you want your shot to absorb. Usually pag maliwanag maliit lang ang opening and then mas lesser ang available light, mas malaki ang opening

- Shutter Speed
ito yung nagcocontrol ng kung gaano katagal exposed yung image sa subject.  mas mataas ang shutter speed mas konting light lang ang ini aallow nyang pumasok. so kung madilim dapat mas mabagal ang shutter speed. ingat lang na pag sobrang bagal ng shutter, nag bu blur na yung subjects mo. this is why we adjust the ISO and exposure to compensate na hindi masyado mabagal ang shutter speed

Other factors are
- Focus
Yung focus mo check mo yung center ng subject mo kung malinaw or malabo then i adjust mo sa focusing ring until makita mo yung malinaw na image

- White Balance
  This sets the temperature of the image you are shooting. Usually this is used to correct the available lights. Halimbawa yellow yung light ayaw naman natin na color yellow tayo or yung shots natin. so what we do is we adjust the white balance to correct the available light and adjust it to white light

- Exposure
   I believe ito ang nagdidictate ng saturation ng color mo together
   I usually keep my exposure to 0 unless sobrang dilim na talaga na kailangan ko bawasan ang exposure

Sa photography may mga principles na sinusunod like below.
- Law of Thirds
- Keep it Simple
- Framing
- Composition
- Lines
- Balance
- Contrasts
- Angle of Shot

It takes practice to master them. you can learn them on your own. no need for a trainor. kailangan mo lang is yung basics kagaya nung minention ko sa taas.

I'm using Canon 400D ang body ko then i have 18-200mm na lens and 50mm na prime lens.
Kit lens should be okay habang nag-aaral ka pa lang. eventually when you choose to take it to the next level dun ka na mag start mag invest sa mga lens.

My photographer-friends prefer Nikon than Canon, I forgot the reason why.

As for a DSLR for beginners, D3200 and D5100 yung usual magkalaban. For me, ang gusto ko before D3200, but when I researched and joined some other photog forums, mas okay ang D5100 kahit mas bago si D3200.

ano body mo and lens?

ganito sis...
dun sa DSLR may P dun na setting right? dun ka muna kasi programmed yun to adjust yung ISO to 400 Set mo yung AWB to Cloudy or kung matindi ang sikat ng araw yung Sunny.  Take a landscape shot of it and also take a shot using Law of Thirds. watch out for your lines ha dapat diritsu ba lalo na yung horizons.  for landscape shooting may rule dyan sa ratio ng hati ng sky and sea or sky and land. either 1/3 ng image is sky then 2/3 land/sea or vice versa depende kung ano ang subject mo. it's a no-no to shoot kapag tirik ang araw... the shadows are harsh and destroys your subject's beauty but there are some occasions when it's best to shoot at midday but most of the times avoid shooting at that time.

yung sa wedding kung may lighting I assume yellow light yung gamit nung mga videographer again mag P ka na lang. put out your internal flash (pindutin mo yung button sa gilid para mag pop out sya)
set your ISO to 800. Set your AWB to Tungsten which is to compensate the yellow light. meantime auto focus mo na lang yung lens mo pero kung marunong ka na mag manual focus much better. pero ako pag tamad mode madalas auto focus na lang hehe.  I would recommend na kung may prime lens ka yun na lang gamitin mo adjust it with opening of 1.8 since naka P ka naman magcocompensate na yung speed nun then portrait portrait shots ka hanap ka ng mga pogi. yung mga pretty picturean mo rin pero padala mo sakin. share! lol but seriously, ganda ng portrait shots ng prime lens.

nice tip bro whitebishop. Ill take note of those. Any tip sa sa prime lens without auto focus features? and 50mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.4 to blur effect the background. Nikon D3200 user here.
