Yes it's the first year of junior high school which is up to grade 10, grades 11 and 12 are the senior high.

my son who is in kinder right now passed the entrance exam for grade 1, he will be 5 years and 1 month by June.. at his age he already knows how to write and read..

unfortunately the school  did not accept him because they said my son is too young based on the k plus 12... but another child who will be turning 6 years old this April was accepted for Grade 2.. he is a transferee from another private school and the reason given by the school why they accepted him for grade 2 was because they cannot demote the said child to grade 1 anymore kahit na sobrang bata pa nya...

so instead na grade 1 na wala kaming choice kundi idaan pa ng prep yung son ko..

Thank you sa thread na ito dahil medyo nalinawan na ako sa k12. But ang worry ko yung gastos! Kawawa naman ang mga new generations of parents. On how the k12 system help our society. This I got to see.

yes and that boy will turn 6 this April... but i don't know how good the kid is, before kasi magstart ng grade 1 dati parang hirap pa magbasa yung bata.. unlike sa son ko na kinder eh kaya na magbasa ng story books mag isa...

yes yan din ang worry ko.. additional year/s para magbayad ng tuition pero kung yun ang nasa law wala tayo magawa kundi sumunod.. sana in the end maganda talaga ang outcome, hindi yung after few years of implementation eh ibabalik nila sa dati parang ginawa lang guinea pig mga students na pinag experimentuhan lang

Wah! Nagpa assess kami kanina for kinder 1 na daw baby boy ko kasi he's turning 4 by June. Gusto ko sana nursery muna para di sya mabigla. Ang adviced samin ng school is ipag summer sya this april and may para di mabigla sa pasukan. Uh-oh.

ask ko lang sa mga public schools implemented na rin ito di ba? my daughter is grade 6 from a private school...balak ko na siyang i-transfer sa public high school dito sa manila eh...

My son is turning 4 in July, so for this school year Nursery na sya?? Hindi muna talaga namin sya sinend sa school at an early age coz ayaw namin manawa sa school yung bata.

^ sis, better check with the school na gusto mo papasukan sa son mo. aside from the birth month cutoff (i.e. age ng bata by June), ina-assess din naman ng school yung capacity ng bata. pero with the K12 system, most probably, baka ilagay na sa Nursery or Kinder1 yung son mo, especially if lumabas sa assessment na maalam na sya.

Dahil dyan sa K-12 na yan. May pasok pa daughter ko until end of April! Bridging program kasi.

Dito sa papasukan ng anak ko sa Dubai, hanggang Grade 10 lang meron sila. So, that means kulang pa ng 2years? Paano kaya kung ittransfer sya after G10 dito dyan sa Pinas, Dapat nyang itake pa ang G11-12 bago sya magcollege, tama? Hindi ko pa to natanong dito sa school mismo. Will do this sa Saturday.

i think K-12 is important and is important if our country wants to be globally competitive, most of the countries are in the 16 plus years of education, only few country use the 14 years system. Kaya if your children would transfer to other country they always have to return to the corresponding grade level. Also if you seek to apply for masters abroad many universities require that at least you have a 16 years of formal education.

Unlike before where Grade 1 is for 7-year olds (old rule), the average age for grade one now is 6 years old because of the K-12 system.  Otherwise, if we stick to the old rule, then our children would already be 19 by the time they start college.  That's a bit late particularly if they intend to pursue law or medicine...

I agree too that the k-12 system will help our children in the future, particularly because of globalization - they need to be able to compete with foreign graduates.

Same dilemma sis. My daughter just turned 4 this May. Nung nagpunta kami sa school na papasukan nya sa Nursery daw sya ilalagay which is based sa age bracket nila is 4 years old ang Nursery. Kasi daw baka daw mabigla pag sa kinder 1 (5 years old) sya ipapasok. And yun talaga ang age requirement nila. Though nagsummerclass sya last April. Gusto sana namin 2 years lang sya sa pre-school. Sabi ng school, tapusin nya yung Nursery then itatalon sya sa Kinder 2. Lalagpasan nya yung Kinder 1. Pag tinapos nya kasi yung Nursery, Kinder 1, Kinder 2, 7 years old sya ng Grade 1. Hindi ko tuloy alam kung ipapasok namin sya dun or hahanap kami ng ibang school. Location wise, okay kasi dun.

 And ang plan namin, lipat na sya sa big school sa Grade 1. Hindi kaya magkaroon ng question sa big school na papasukan nya pag ganun ang ginawa na itatalon sya from Nursery to Kinder 2?

Hi sis! Kung Nursery yung son mo this school year at age 4, anong grade nya next year at age 5, Kinder 1? Then Grade 1 na sya at age 6?

Sis minaco i dont think magkakaproblem naman nun. Sa age yata talaga sila nagbebase what level yung bata. Like yung son ko, sa school nila ma jr nursery, sr nursery, k1 at k2. Pinasok namin siya 4 years old gusto ng admin sa k1 agad. Nag insist kami n nursery muna kasi baka mabigla yung bata. Pumayag naman pero the next year k2 na siya agad di na k1. Para sakto at 6 yrs old grade 1 na

^^Ganun na nga sis. That's why para hindi naman ma-shock ang son ko this June, pinag summer classes ko muna para at least alam nya na how to socialize with other kids. Ang sabi pa nga nung directress nung preschool, with the K+12 as early as 3 years old dapat nag-aaral na ang bata. Preparation yun for grade 1, kase nga naman by the age of 6 ilang subjects na ang aaralin ng bata.

my son will turn 4yo in November. He's entering kinder 1 this school year at a small preschool near our place. He actually missed the cut off age by 1 mo and the school wants to place him in nursery class. we requested if he can be placed in kinder 1 since we intend to enroll him in La Salle by school year 2015-2016. Pasok naman siya sa age requirement (4 1/2 yo by June) ng La Salle. Pumayag naman but he had to attend summer classes (from March to May) to prepare him for kinder 1.  Since the classes are vertical, I was able to observe him with the nursery students. in terms of maturity, my son is advanced. He keeps complaining his classmates are "babies".
