I don't like this (K+12) system as well. Bakit ang goal nila eh para makaacquire ng skills ang mga estudyante so that they can be competitive to work abroad? Dapat magfocus sila na magkaroon ng work opportunities here instead of pushing people to work in other countries. Parusa lang talaga ang program na to.

How is it then with private schools that are originally only up to Grade 6? So does that mean ang Grade 7 ng lets say DLSZ is just the same as the Grade 6 of San Beda prior to K12 implementation? Correct me if Im wrong mga sis, pero what I understand from sis hunny_ally's explanation is that since for K12 prep=Gr1, Gr1=Gr2 ad so on and so forth, dapat for schools na originally walang Grade 7, If they will re-label, old Grade 5 which will be re- labeled as Grade 6, graduate na? Kasi diba Grade 7=1st year? I made the table below kasi to compare, pero parang mas na-confuse pa ko:

OLD            K12
Kinder     - Kinder
Prep         - Gr1
Gr1            - Gr2
Gr2          - Gr3
Gr3          - Gr4
Gr4          - Gr5
Gr5          - Gr6

Yr1          - Gr7
Yr2          - Gr8
Yr3          - Gr9
Yr4          - Gr10
                                                                   Gr11
                 Gr11
                 Gr12

Hope someone can enlighten me further. I have a 2y.o kasi now who I enrolled sa Toddlers class para tumama siya with the age requirement ng K12, kaya lang with this info parang masyado yata siya maaga. Kasi in the school he is right now Toddlers are 2y.o, Nursery 3y.o and Kinder 4y.o. Students who go here go to DLSZ for prep. So kung prep in DLSZ will be relabeled as Gr1 na, parang he's too young once he reaches that level kasi 5 palang siya nun.

^the table should look like this for schools w/o grade 7 in the old system. You missed the 6th grade in your "Old" column

Old - k12
Kinder - kinder
Prep - Grade 1
Gr 1 - grade 2
Gr 2 - grade 3
Gr 3 - grade 4
Gr 4 - grade 5
Gr 5 - grade 6
Gr 6 - grade 7

Yr 1 - grade 8
Yr 2 - grade 9
Yr 3 - grade 10
Yr 4 - grade 11
         Grade 12

So yes if a school does not offer grade 7 in the old system, they will have an added year of schooling. Try to look for that video link I shared a few pages back. The discussion between Usec Umali and pia archangel is very informative

Now, re your question if in the old system the grade 7 of DLSZ is equal to San Beda's grade 6, the answer is NO. Yun nga ang lugi of schools that has grade 7 already in the old system. Longer ang schooling nila since they have a grade 7. So ang nangyayari a Bedan is in 1st yr already, si Zobel is only in grade 7. Kahit they both entered grade 1 the same year, the Bedan will enter college earlier than the Lasallian. It also makes sense too that schools with grade 7 in the old system will not introduce new levels. That's why I said these schools are already meeting the required number of years of the k12 program.

Re your kid, did he/she just turn 2 or is he/she turning 3? My daughter attended toddler school too at age 2 but she did turn 3 during the school year. Toddler school is not required in k12 program. Just to illustrate ha, for my daughter ganito ang nangyari/mangyayari.

* Toddler school - entered at age 2 (but she turned 3 during the SY)
*Nursery - entered at age 3 (but turned 4 during the SY) --> not required by k12/DECS but is required by most private schools
* Kinder 1 - entered at age 4 (but will turn 5 during the SY) --> required in K12 program
* Grade 1 (Kinder 2/Prep in old system) - will enter at age 5 (but will turn 6 during the school year)
* Grade 2 (grade 1 in the old system) - will enter at age 6 (but will turn 7 during the SY)

So just like your kid, my daughter will enter grade 1 at age 5. But she will turn 6 that SY.

I'm not as well concerned that she'll be only 5yo by then cause it reality Kinder 2/Prep lessons pa naman sila. Grade 1 is just a label after all.

Thanks sis hunny_ally! Should have asked Pia pala, she was my classmate in AC kasi. :)

Regarding my 2y.o, for Toddlers he will be turning 3y.o within the school year but in the latter part already. He was born in March. He was admitted in Toddlers at age 2.3.

GRRRRRR!!!!

Sorry pero a lot of parents nalilito pa rin sa K+12 system until now.

Correct me if Im wrong ha. My daughter is enrolled in a private school who doesn't offer grade 7. She started at 5 years old as Nursery and will be graduating this school year as grade 6 at the age of 12. So it means na 1 year lang ang idadagdag sa kanila to fit in the K+12 program? and for my youngest naman, I have to enroll him as eary as 3 years old turning 4 for the school year of Nursery since Kinder is for the age of 5 na?  ??? Now same with other moms here, ang worry ko lang parang ang bata naman ng 6 years to have the curriculum of a first grader.. tama ba ko? ???

^re your last question...eto kasi ang pagkakaintindi ko since this will be my daughter's situation next year.

At 6yo, sa old setup dapat Prep/kinder 2 pa Lang (Iba-iba terminologies nito depending on the school)

With the k-12 program, this will be grade 1 kasi nga the requirement is 6yo or at least turning 6yo within a particular month (not sure of the month).

Now the question is with the new setup will a 6yo (or someone who's turning 6 yo) will have the same curriculum of a 1st grader in the old system? The answer, at least for my daughter's school, is NO. At grade 1 they will still have the same lessons for Prep of the old system.

Re on what age should your kid enter Preschool? Sa school ng daughter ko, in the old system they have 3 levels: Nursery, Kinder 1, Kinder 2. Now with the k-12, they only have 2 levels:

Nursery (4 yo or at least 3yo turning 4yo within the academic year)
Kinder (5yo or at least 4yo turning 5yo within the academic year)

Just to note, even before this all k-12 issue, she entered Nursery (at a different school) at age 3 and celebrated her 4th birthday (July) within the academic year. Hmm I think the confusion lies on the age cutoff. It gets more complicated if you take into consideration the age cutoff requirement of school. For example: a kid must be x age by <month>.

Re your older child, I think the best way to answer that is by asking the school officials. Sadly, Iba iba din kasi ang way of implementing the private schools

^ Deped gives private schools a bit of autonomy when it comes to the age factor.

For public schools, cut-off for grade 1 is turning 6 by June of the school year, I think. [I did not pay too much attention when this was discussed yesterday at the K+12 seminar in my sons' preschool]

But iba-iba nga for private schools.  Ateneo's cut-off for grade 1 now is turning 6 by October 1 of the school year.  Before kasi for prep, the cut-off date was December 15.  Ateneo will scrap its Prep program by next school year.  Another target school of mine has a cut-off date of June 30, meaning, to qualify for admission to grade 1, the child must turn 6 by June 30.  Miriam College naman will accelerate everyone next year.  Based on my understanding, next school year, lahat ng senior kinder nila or whatever it is they call the highest level in their preschool ay magiging grade 2.  Parang may mass acceleration yatang magaganap.

On another note, I listened (with an open mind) to Elvin Uy from Deped about the K+12 program.  He shared a bit of the history and the 12 years primary education has been in the works since the time of the Americans.  Maraming studies, shifts in the priorities and policies of different administrations, etc. kaya ngayon lang talaga in-implement.  Bottom line, maganda ang objectives.  Let's hope they implement it well, although it will be very challenging.    I will support it rather than complain about it kasi wala namang magagawa ang negativity.

^i think Marose what will happen in Miriam, they're delaying the implementation of K12 to next year. So instead yung senior students nila ngayon is  gawing grade 1, they stuck pa din to the old system. For next year para makahabol sa implementation, the current senior kinder now will be grade 2.

Oh re Ateneo, ang laking impact Kay M. He'll miss the cutoff by 1 month. Waaaaah! So definitely this will have big impact on our plans.

I really think the best way to understand how this k12 will affect one's child is to ask how will the current or the prospect school implement it.

Like you I'm giving this whole program a shot. Yes challenging but the objectives are good. And hopefully with Bro Armin's track record in the La Salle system he can make a big change in DepEd and the whole education system

^thanks sis, ganun na nga lang gagawin ko since wala pa kaming orientation for K+12,  the other day na tumawag ako sa school, ang sabi they are conducting orientations every year for the parents of upcoming freshmen and preschoolers na sinimulan na nila before this schoolyear started.

Tinatamad ako mag-backread pero when I saw the title I just want to post this.

Pretty much parang ganito ang mangyayari.

For private schools WITHOUT Grade 7 -- you will add 1 schoolyear.

For private schools ALREADY WITH Grade 7 -- no added schoolyears, but they are renaming the Grade levels to conform to K12.

Bunso ko is Grade 1 now sa Miriam (Miriam has G7). Next year, Grade 3 na siya.

Same goes for my Atenean (Ateneo also has G7). Next year, Grade 6 na siya, G4 siya ngayon.

Xavier already implemented the renaming of levels this year. Pamangkin ko Grade 2 last year, Grade 4 na ngayon.

Pro-poor DAW ang K+12, according to this article. HAYZ!!!!  Gastos pa lalo!

I see the point of most parents here who is burdened with the added levels. Lucky for those who already graduated. My elementary school had a 7th grade and it was not really a repeat of previous lessons but actually had world history, advanced algebra, stuff I was glad to learn. So I guess it's cool that others also have to undergo grade 7 IF they will have added learning on top of what the level already offers.

My take on this depends sa implementation, kung ma-iimplement ng tama I agree with k-12 system kahit magastos.

My sons school, which doesn't offer Grade 7, recently held an orientation regarding their "move-up transition program" to conform to Depeds K12 program. In their case, they will be accelerating students by next year, but with the following conditions:

- child must meet the age requirement for the given level (In my sons case, he is turning 9y.o next year, so he will be placed in Grade 4 from Grade 2)

- child must undergo a bridging program wherein they will be taught lessons for English, Math and Filipino for the level they will be skipping. This will be done in the summer. So in effect, they will still have their 3rd grade, in my sons case, during the summer. All other subjects (AP, CLE etc.) will be integrated during the 4th grade.

- An assessment exam will be taken to test a child's mastery of the lessons taught during the previous school year and during the bridging program. If a child doesn't pass, he/she will not be accelerated and placed in the next level (Grade 2 to Grade 3 instead of Grade 4).

- child's emotional and psychological profile will also be considered. If a child is not emotionally and psychologically ready, he/she will not be accelerated.

I was wondering how is it for other schools, especially those who mass accelerated and re-labelled their levels? Did they just change the names of the levels but still have the same lessons for the level they are supposed to be in? If in Grade 1 and will be in Grade 2 re-labelled as Grade 3 next year, are their lessons for Grade 2 or Grade 3?

Sis simple_elegance,  i would just like to know, so in your son's school, if the child doesn't meet the age requirement he will not be accelerated thus need not attend bridging program?  Is it safe to assume that the lessons for the next level (ex. Grade 1 to grade 2) gr 2, is just a continuation of gr 1 lessons, as in tulad lang sa dati?
