Question:  saan ba magdadagdag ng years?  Sa high school ang pagkakaintindi ko kasi.  So this means that if say, my sons go to prep at 6 years old then may grade 7 sa school nila so bale, 13 na sila when they finish grade school.  So sa high school, plus 2 years =6 years.  They'll be 19 when they enter college???  I was 20 when I graduated from my undergrad course.  Hay ang tagal namin magpapaaral.

Adding to info. the K+12 implementation is already done in almost all countries...specifically Asia. Ang hindi na lang nagimplement ay Phil. & Myanmar. So meaning we are so much left behind in our Education. This is the real change...a new phase to the world.

Baka mag-aadjust ng program yun schools na may grade 7...sana naman. Kasi kinder + 6 GS + 4 junior high + 2 senior high kaya sana yun may grade 7 ilagay na yun program nila as part ng junior high.

I was able to watch Pia Arcanghel's interview with Deped Asec Toni Umali re the K+12 implementation. He said theoretically since most private schools already have 13-14 years of school: 2-3 years PS, 7 years GS, 4 years HS, there wouldn't be added years for private school students unlike for public school students. Public kasi minsan preschool is not mandatory tapos they only have 6 years GS and 4 years high school. so thats only 10 years. For private, ang mangyayari lang is there will be adjustments in terms of the curriculum and of course the name of the year level. Hopefully totoo nga 'to. DepEd is still doing dialogues with private schools.

^implemented na nga daw for this coming school year. first batch of K+12 graduates will be for the 2016 school year. but what Asec Umali is saying theoretically for private schools esp those with grade 7, walang added years. At it is, in terms of years of schooling, private schools are already meeting the K+12. Changes daw that we can expect is change in the curriculum/program per year level plus siyempre changes in the naming of the year level. siguro instead of calling 1st year HS 1st year this will be called grade 8. eto ang pagkakaintindi ko ha

yung 2 years na madadagdag kasi sa high school which is senior high school , ay vocational subjects, na NC I level na din or cational competency level 1 like sa TESDA

i have a question, bakit nagaambisyon ang DepEd ng K12 school program kung hindi nga nila maayos ang sistema ng grade1 - 4th yr HS?

this will not make our students smarter or more competitive sa industry. hindi quantity kundi quality education ang kailangan ng mga bagets ngayon.

and besides lalo lang nilang ine-encourage n mag abroad ang mga pilipino, diba yun ang gustong gusto ng ibang bansa yung mga skilled workers.

^^yup true. but Pia Arcanghel raised the issue na how about those private schools na meron nang grade 7 sa program nila. in terms of number of years of schooling, ang private schools now as it is, mahaba na ang years of schooling. thats why sabi nga ni Asec Umali for private schools with grade 7 program most likely changes will be in the program/curriculum and not added years.

Plus if I may add, currently with some public schools you can enter grade 1 at 6 yo. unlike for private na you should be 7 or at least turning 7 during the school year.

^correct. kaya meron talagang mangyayaring age adjustments for private schools. but as far as the number years of schooling is concerned, according kay asec umali walang impact na mangyayari for private schools. as it is private schools with grade 7 already meets the number of years. kasi ako ang main concern ko if ma-implement K+12 was the added gastos because of the added years. pero ang lumalabas walang added years for private but for public only. sa private adjustment of curriculum lang.

kung tutuusin nga mas mahaba pa schooling ng daughter ko compared to the number of years ng K+12 program:

(1) year toddler school
(3) years Preschool
(7) years Grade School
(4) years High School
===
(15) years from PS-HS

^best if may info campaign sila no? Para most ng mga tanong ng mga magulang matugunan kasi most ang tingin dito sa k+12 program e additional gastos.

for those schools with the grade 7 curriculum, it will be some sort of dagdag-bawas. mababawasan ang GS, then madadagdagan ang HS. in terms of age i think it will be like this. Those in parenthesis are the equivalent ages for the current setup of private schools (im assuming for Preschool the levels are nursery, kinder 1, kinder 2/prep. Other schools have different labels for these):

KINDER
age 5 = kinder (kinder 1)

GRADE SCHOOL
age 6= grade 1  (kinder 2/prep)
age 7 = grade 2 (grade 1)
age 8 = grade 3 (gr 2)
age 9 = grade 4 (gr 3)
age 10 = grade 5 (gr 4)
age 11 = grade 6 (gr 5)

JUNIOR HIGH
age 12 = grade 7 (gr 6)
age 13 = grade 8 (gr 7)
age 14 = grade 9 (1st yr)
age 15 = grade 10 (2nd yr)

SENIOR HIGH
age 16 = grade 11 (3rd yr)
age 17 = grade 12 (4th yr)

plus 4 years of college, around 21 yo graduate na si M & M (unless they go straight to law school like mommy  ).

so if titingnan mo in terms of the length of stay in school, same number of years pa din ang regular private school and the K+12 program. sa current setup ni public school now, kids can enter grade 1 at 6 yo (and at that without going through preschool pa) then they dont have grade 7. so at age 15 they graduate high school. may advantage na 2 years  (3 yrs if you count nursery) of schooling ang mga nasa private

so mommy marose, no added gastos for us since no additional years and only changes in curriculum. ang affected lang dito are those in public schools and those private schools that do not offer grade 7 curriculum. they are forced to stay longer in school

i just wonder how will the private schools implement this. obviously change will not only involve the grade/year level labels but also the curriculum.  madugo

TO ADD: during the open house for my daughter's prospect school, the coordinator told me that during their dialogue with DepEd, they argued that most private schools already follow the K+12 program. so if ever there will be changes, the kinder 2/prep level will be called grade 1. so not really too much impact for private schools with grade 7
