My youngest said bad word in school and lied
« on: October 02, 2011, 03:19:02 am »
Hi girls. I just need your help lang. Here's what happen:

We went to the school and talked to my youngest daughter's teacher to be discuss her development in school. However, we, hubby and I, got surprised on what her teacher told us. Well, the teacher said that she's good at her academics, but she said "epal" to one of her classmate. We apologise for the behaviour and told her teacher that we will do something about it.

When we got home, I talked to my daughter and told her what happened to school... as well as the bad behaviour. And as a consequence, I told her that she will not go outside our house to play until she avoid speaking foul or "kalye" words.

But, the next day, one of my things is missing. I asked my youngest if ginalaw nya yun? and she said, "hindi po, mum." so i asked her to call her ate, then, i asked ate the same question, and ate replied, "hindi po ako, mum." While observing them, I noticed that my youngest cant look to me straight in the eye. so, i asked her again, after few seconds, inamin nya.

my dilemna is i dont know what to do to her anymore. what other things i can do to let her know that lying is a bad thing. pls. help.  tia!

Not a mom yet but will base my advice on how my mom raised me ha.

My mom, by nature is the disciplinarian, my biological dad was the spoiler. I grew up feeling my mom's authority and tapang which made me "afraid" of her, pero afraid in a good way ha, na I became super mindful of my actions even when I was a child. All the things na nireremind nila na hindi pwede, Im obliged to follow. Hindi naman nila ako pinagbubuhatan ng kamay or napapalo, but theres something that makes your child behave properly when you let them feel your assertiveness sa mga gusto mo at ayaw mo na ginagawa nila. Dun narin papasok yung pakikialam sa gamit, how old is your daughter, sis? Normal naman kasi for kids to be curious about the stuff around them, lalo na if ina-idolize ka, asahan mo, she'll be really curious of the stuff you like or the stuff you have.

Ganyan yung ginagawa ko sa kiddo ng driver namin, she stays here often since she was 3 y/o kaya may chance kami disiplinahin rin yung bata, ngayon she's 8 y/o na, and alam padin nyang bawal gumalaw ng mga gamit dito, which is quite surprising considering andami dami kong abubot dito na kahit adult friends ko nga tuwang tuwa mag-kalkal. haha! :D Do a reward-punishment thing sis, if she behaves properly, give her a reward, but teach her also that she needs to earn that, and she cant demand for that reward. She loves makeup, e madami akong makeup dito sa bahay, puro naka-display lang sa shelves, so medyo  eye candy for kiddos yun, but then she knows she cant touch them, and kaaliw na hanggang tingin lang talaga sya, at the end of the day, Ill put makeup on her, kaya siguro nasanay na sya na mag-behave kasi she has something to look forward to at the end of the day.

Whenever your little girl goes out to play with her friends, sino ang nagbabantay sa kanya sis? It also helps if the bantay will be oriented na pagalitan si kiddo once she hears her or sees her do something wrong, takot ako sa yaya ko before, may times nga na pag pinapagalitan ako ng mom ko before pag ayoko makinig, tawagin lang ng mom ko si yaya, titigil na ko. Medyo di ko gusto yung technique ng ibang parents na iniignore once they see their kids do something na hindi maganda, kasi ang iniisip nila nagpapapansin lang yung bata at kusang titigil pag hindi pinansin, hayaan lang mapagod, etc.. It would actually help kung iaddress mo kaagad yung behavior, call her attention, be firm when you say no and when you ask her to keep still and behave properly. Pag inignore kasi, its good as ignoring someone calling your name, ang tendency, lalong lalakasan ang boses hanggang marinig mo, so kung gusto mong ma-eradicate a certain behavior from your kiddo, address the behavior properly and emphasize bakit mo siya pinapagalitan about it.

sorry for the nobela post again. :D and hope this helps. :)

My yaya and my mom is from Iloilo parehas, and as early as 2-3 years old, aside from english and tagalog, medyo nakakaintindi na ko ng ilonggo, come school time, nursery ako nun, I cant remember the exact scenario but I told one of my classmates na "uy, ____ t**** ka" -- and i didnt mean it as in stupid ha, yung t**** kasi sa ilonggo means "tumingala/tingala" so they actually thought it was a bad word. Ayun, when my teacher told me about it, I explained naman na "look up" was what I really meant when i said that. actually its pronounced as ta-nga na matigas yung last na A. :D Funny memories nung kabataan ko. shets. haha!

Mahirap yan baka kalakihan nya at lumala pa. Napagdaanan ko ito sis, whilst my daughter was 5 yrs old that time I can't believe na nasabi nya ang word na P.I mo :( it's because naririnig nya at na pick up nya sa labas. Talk to her sis, hwag daanin sa init ng ulo. Kalma lang at pangaralan mo. Goodluck.

^thanks sis. i've already talked to her the same day she did it.

i asked her "bakit mo ginawa yun?" and she replied with "hindi ko po alam." i think she's too young (because she's only 4 years old) to recognize that she already lied. you're maybe correct, sis. maybe natakot siya the way i confronted them that way she didnt tell the truth.

however, thanks to your advise. i'll talk to her again, seriously. And i am hoping that it wont happen again or else i'll be too much bothered ayoko lang kasing kalakihan nila. :(

4yrs old?... never confront nor scold her. spend more time with her and ate. tell them lots of stories about angels... really. ;)
kaya umpisahan mo na mag research for stories.

^^ she's only 4 sis so i'm sure she didn't even know what "epal" really means.  usually when they say bad words, they are just imitating what they hear from adults.  once, nagulat ako and napasabi ng "p--yeta".  aba, my son started using that word and he's only 3!  since then, i've been really careful with what i say and nabura na rin sa memory nya.

^^laging nangyayari din saken yan, once natabig ko yung baso from the table and napasigaw ako ng "sh*t", a few minutes after i heard na rin yung 3 year old ko saying it, so i immediately called her attention and said na that's bad and then i said sorry kasi she asked me "why you mama?"  :D

So yun be very careful na lang sa lahat ng sasabihin mo when your kids are around kasi madaling pumik-up yung mga bata ngayon, yesterday i heard my 2 year old said to her yaya nung niyaya na siyang magshower "ayoko sayo, pangit ka" so i askedher san nya narinig yun, and she just said "i dont know mama". so maybe narinig nya rin kung saan.

sis i suggest na pag alam mo nang nag lilie siya don't give her a reason to lie one more time, for example alam mo na na siya ang nakabasag nang vase don't ask her na ikaw ba ang nakabasag nang vase? by doing so, you are giving her a chance to think about not saying the truth..instead sabihin mo na baby i know na nabasag mo yung vase and im upset or nanghihinayang ako pero it doesn't mean that i don't love you or i love you less next time be careful or tell her na i know na nagsinungaling ka mommy is not happy about it a hope hindi na mangyari next time..tell her the story about the boy who cried wolf.hope nakatulong ako sis
