Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease

I took Zoe to her pedia today and she was diagnosed with early stage of Hand, foot, and mouth disease

2 days ago lang kase, I noticed na may rashes all over the legs si Zoe. Actually pati sa bum and singit nya umabot na. Sabe ng yaya ko baka tigdas hangin daw. So kanina pag punta namin sa pedia, sabe early stages nga daw ng hfmd. Most likely she got it from someone who was exposed to the disease nung birthday party nya last sunday. Nag-prescribe na ng anti-histamine drops yung pedia. She also asked me to put on a mixture or Calmoseptine and Elica cream on the bumps after putting Listerine (yes, the mouth wash) on the affected areas.

I really hope hinde na mag-progress kay Zoe to. I'm also looking forward to hearing from moms who experienced this with their kids na. Thanks so much.

^oh no! hope your baby gets better. when my little boy was hospitalized last month, may nakasabay din siya sa hospital with hand, foot and mouth disease. parang uso?

^yeah, it's very common especially among kids. it spreads easily too buti nga walang ibang kids na dito samin. I just hope she gets better soon.

Van, my kids had HFMD early this year.  Nahawa sa classmates.  It is a viral infection, therefore, walang meds to cure it.  You just have to wait it out.  It can be spread through the air eh kaya hawa-hawa talaga iyan.

Nakakatakot lang , one of my sons nag-peel ang toe nails!  My pamangkins naman abroad, as in totally nalagas their toe nails and nails.

^Marose, how long did it take for marty and milo to recover? Right now yung kay Zoe, random rashes pa lang sa legs (and I hope hinde na mag-progress talaga). Her pedia said na by Thursday kung wala pa din improvement, dalhin ko daw ulit sa kanya.

I remember nung about 6 months old pa lang sya, may naksabay kame sa pedia na 3-year old boy. His arms, legs, and sides of his mouth were covered with red bumps. Super obvious kase mestiso boy sya. The parents thought na chicken pox sya but yun pala HFMD sya. He was confined that day but I didn't know what happened na after. Ayoko sana umabot sa ganong point si Zoe kase she's too young pa I dont know if there's a difference na nalaman namin at an early stage pa lang.

^ Actually, they were not sick like feverish or anything.  I just let them stay home for around one and a half weeks so that they will not spread the virus in school.   The rashes disappeared after a week or two, but the peeling nails happened much later.   They were diagnosed late February but summer ko na napansin ang peeling nails.  I remember that during the week na na-diagnose my kids with HFMD, marami ding kids sa school nila nag-absent because of other viral illnesses like respiratory tract infection and the like.  The directress emailed us parents kasi record number ang absentees that week.  So, talagang sa school nagkahawa-hawa silang magkakaklase.

Medyo long-term ang incubation ng virus that causes HFMD.  Wala talagang cure eh.  The pedia did not prescribe any meds.  Stay home lang ang recommendation.  Do not go out yet siguro unless necessary to prevent transmission of the virus to others.  So even if you go have the rashes checked by the pedia, most likely, ganyan lang din ang recommendation niya.  I also checked kasi with friends whose children had HFMD prior to my kids plus my doctor friends.  So there.

Since the virus may be transmitted by air or by droplets, to prevent HFMD from happening again, bawasan ang pasyal sa mga crowded places, especially during flu season.

^Thanks so much Marose for the info Mejo nababawasan na yung rashes ni Zoe, hopefully tuloy-tuloy na to. Nakakainis lang kase kanina while I was at work, I got a call from my yaya who told me na dinala daw sila sa mall ng mom ko. I was really upset kase binilin ko na nga na kahit sa labas ng gate wag ilalabas tapos dinala pa sa mall. Kahit sandali lang sila it was just upsetting kase alam na ngang ganon yung situation nung bata eh.

I'm sorry to hear about Zoe, Van. I hope she gets well soon. Isn't calmoseptine too strong for baby's skin? My friend who was a nurse told me those were for bedsores. Ewan ko lang. Kasi nung sinabi ko sa kanya na one time bumili ako nun, sabi ng friend ko matapang daw yun.

^Thanks Brendz, getting better na si baby girl ko. Nabawasan na yung bumps sa skin especially sa butt area.

Yung calmoseptine pinagamit din yun ng pedia ni Zoe nung nagka-rashes sya sa diaper area. Instead of using commercial brands, mas preferred nya yon and so far ok naman din si Zoe. My SIL na nurse din said na ginagamit nga daw sya for bed sores pero sabe naman nya hinde naman din harmful to baby's skin compared to commercial brands

Tuwing mag babaksyon yung boss ko sa Malaysia nagkakaroon ng HFMD ang 2 nyang anak.
Sabi ng pedia baka daw marumi sa playground na pinuntahan nila.

Just an update, Zoe's rashes dried up na. Wala naman marks masyado pero gagamitin ko na ng calamansi yung bath water nya para kuminis ulit legs nya kase mejo naging rough from the rashes. I'll wait pa siguro for another week para super sure lang na dry na talaga lahat.

may ganito palang thread, my son recently got HFMD, grabe namaga yung butt nya and legs, nagspread din siya sa face, feet and fingers pero konti lang.  The derma prescribe Anti-viral medicine for a week and anti -allergy para makatulog siya sa gabi and ointment.  Fortunately, almost all of them dried up na pero kitang kita pa din.  I just wish hindi mangyari yung mga nabasa ko dito na nagpeel yung nails kawawa naman yung little boy ko.  The derma said nahawa daw siya sa classmate na may HFMD but I don't her binigyan na yun ng clearance ng doctor kaya nakapasok sa school and she said as long as you can see something hindi pa din magaling kahit na tuyo na.  Mga sis ano ba sabi ng doctor ninyo kelan ba masasabing magaling na sa HFMD?  TIA!

My baby boy who just turned one 2 Sundays ago (Feb 26) also caught HFMD. Wed eve after his bday party, nagka-fever sya until thur eve. Tapos ayaw nya kumain ng rice. Fruits kumakain sya ng konti tapos after a while iluluwa nya. Then he didn't want to finish his milk. Tapos na-notice ko when i was changing his diapers may parang blisters sa butt nya, i thought diaper rash. Friday lunchtime, i noticed pinkish/reddish spots sa legs nya, tapos there are a few blisters. Mas dumami pa pagdating ng afternoon pati arms meron na. Akala ko simple rash lang. Sabi ko if the ff day meron pa din, will bring him to his pedia derma na. Nadagdagan pa tung blisters so we went to the doctor na. Sabi nga HFMD daw and its common among children lalo na this summer season. Wala nga daw medicine to cure it, you just let it heal for 7-10 days. Ngayon wala ng red spots and blisters, nag-dry up na. Pero ako naman ang nagkaroon.

I was constantly with my baby kasi when he was sick coz i went on leave from work. So ako talaga nagalaga sa kanya nun. I even shared with his froyo which the doctor advised to give him para ma-soothe yung mouth pains nya. Ayun, come tuesday, masakit throat ko tapos nung afternoon, headache and body pains tapos fever. Wednesday fever subsided but there's a little headache and some body pains pa din pero ang throat ko masakit pa din. Tapos nung afternoon, blisters sprouted in my palms similar to that of my baby's and some reddish dots too. Tapos sa feet ko meron din particularly sa soles. And my golly, ang throat ko sobrang sakit. Parusa ang pag-swallow ng food! Kahit nga water or other liquid ang sakit but of course i cannot not drink and eat di ba. I asked my hubby to check my throat may mga blisters nga daw. I haven't gone to the doctor yet, tomorrow pa ko pupunta but based on what my baby's pedia derma said abt the symptoms and the health articles i've read, most likely HFMD nga to.

Nahahawa din pala ang mga adults, mas common lang sa kids kasi mas mahina ang immune system nila. Now i understand na what my baby was going through last week. ingatan muna i-expose sa maraming tao ang kids natin. Also the parents of kids na may HFMD. Always wash your hands especially after washing your babies kasi nata-transmit din sya through the pooh pooh. And avoid eating their food na lang din muna.

^^ Perhaps, you and your baby had been exposed to the HFMD virus at the same time.  Mas nauna lang nag-manifest ang symptoms sa baby mo.
