hi sis, im taking evening primerose oil for a year now kasi inadvice ito ng doctor ko nung meron akong tenderness sa breast ko after ng operation ko sa breast. pero ang alam ko hindi ito nakakatulong sa mga babaeng trying to concieve. it only assist in providing relief from the symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome such as breast pain or tenderness.

so i dont think it will help.

More than 10 years ago, my OB also prescribed me evening primrose oil, because according to her it was a pseudo-oestrogen - effective for regulating my hormone levels since with my PCOS my progesterone tended to get higher - so I was growing hair more than usual in the armpits, in the upper lip, and in other areas - except on my head where I would have welcomed a thicker mop of hair!

The evening primrose oil helped clear the zits that "plagued me" - though it was only two or three zits.  I felt embarrassed having them at past 40!
I would go for regular TVGS, and my PCOS condition appeared to be at a stand still.
Those bad symptoms - heavy flows, painful and debilitating periods (I would spend the first 3 days mostly in bed - that was how bad it was) - eased up.

Since at that time I was approaching menopausal age, I also looked forward to hot flushes, migraine, palpitations, etc. but lo and behold I rarely had them.

My skin condition also improved - more soft, more supple - and I noticed that as each year passed, I was not really developing that much wrinkle in my face, even as my diabetes doctor was guiding me through a weight loss program so that I could manage my blood sugar better.

I am a relatively healthy 58-year-old now.  PCOS is no longer a problem for me, since I opted for total hysterectomy two years ago, due to myomas that were suddenly growing abnormally.  I continue to take the evening primrose oil, for its being a pseudo-oestrogen.  And, my skin continues to be in the same very good condition.

I have PCOS too. I took Vitex and Dong Quai.. I'm 5 months pregnant now. I got them from Healthy Options. Try to do a research about it.

I take evening primrose oil for PMS. I experience breast tenderness and extreme food craving a week before my period. But whenever I take evening primrose oil faithfully before the week of my PMS starts, the symptoms are a lot less.

Hi Sis,

Interested lang ako malaman. Sabay mo ba tinake yung Vitex and Dong Quai?

Sorry ha. I tried researching on the net pero wala akong makitang informative kung pwede ito pagsabayin.

Thanks in advance!

mga sis, i'm quite confused about evening primrose oil kasi just recently i needed to have a d&c.  e ayaw pa lumabas nung baby so i had to be induced.

one of the meds my OB asked me to take was evening primrose oil.  sabi nya it softens the cervix daw.

i saw posts here that say that it's supposed to be used when TTC?  e pano kung mabuntis ka nga then you take it then magsoften cervix?  di ba sya maglead to miscarriage?

mga sis, pacheck lang muna ito how to use it and kelan pag TTC.  baka dapat lang sya itake on fertile days (to soften cervix and make it more penetrable to sperm???), then stop immediately after ng fertile period?

^yan din ang sabi sakin nng Ob ko before. When I asked her, if nakakatulong ba talaga ang evening primrose sa infertility. pero same lang ang sinabi nya just like your Ob. Kaya di suggest sakin na mag-take nun. if manganganak na daw ako, then saka lang daw dapat ako mag-take nun.

I was taking a vitamin with evening primrose. Maganda effect sa akin, hindi na ako dini-dysmenorrhea, no PMS, bigla na lang ako nagkakaperiod nang wala akong kamalay-malay, ala kasi na akong pain na nararamdaman as symptoms nga ng PMS.

I know this is also good for migraine.

Also beneficial to older women going through menopausal stage, boosts estrogen.

Be careful lang for others kasi too much estrogen can lead to estrogen dominance, if your progesterone doesn't cope up with the same levels.

medyo na confuse ako sa mga reviews about EPO.  I'm pcos kasi and bumili ako nito sa mercury drug ng 7 soft gels lang.  nakaka 3 na ako and my period came as natural as it is.  sana may makuha pa kaong magandang effects nito lalo na yung pag normalized ng cycle para ma preggy na...

please share experiences pa in taking EPO..

^you are right sis, here a quote from Fertility Friends (where I base my fertility supplements):

• Take Evening Primrose Oil (High Strength) from first day of period for 14 days, then stop at ovulation and DON’T take for another 14 days or until your period comes again. EPO can cause your period to start, that is why you only take it up until ovulation, not after. It’s a stop and start supplement not to be taken permanently. If pregnant, don’t take. But keep using this procedure until you do become pregnant! Evening Primrose Oil is a herb that is often used specifically to help increase cervical mucus.  Evening primrose oil is an essential fatty acid that is also an anti-inflammatory.  Evening primrose oil will not only help to increase cervical mucus, it can also help to increase the quality and effectiveness of cervical mucus, and produce more “egg-white cervical mucus.” GQCM can help the sperm reach the egg easier. It can make the uterus a less 'hostile' place. Taken over time, it can help reduce the narrowing of vessels and promotes blood flow. If you are not trying naturally, i.e.: having fertility treatment, then you can take throughout your treatment non-stop, but PLEASE stop in the 2WW, as it can bring on uterine contractions and therefore make you bleed/have your period.

if you are having problem with your monthly and/or PCOS, do consider "Red Rasberry Leaves" to your daily regimen.  been taking this every since without any side effects and to this day, my cycle days has increased and regular na period ko, no more clotting and dysmennorhea.  :)

if you are having painful cramps during your period only, you can also consider taking omega 3 or high epa and dfa, you'd have stronger blood flow though.

hth.  :)
