my nephew is autistic. he was born premature. he's 8 yrs old now and so far, i want to say that he is improving naman. but he rocks himself a lot, he bangs his head against the wall and when he gets upset, he screams and kicks and grabe yung temper tantrum. one time he was so mad that he broke the glass window in their house's living room. madali din siya ma-sensory overload.

what we found to be helpful to him is getting him engaged in physical activities/sports. he plays baseball, he does karate. his mom bought him a standing punching bag (idk what that's called, sorry) as well. he's into nerf guns din, which we don't approve of because tinatarget niya madalas his sisters. but what can you do, you know. hindi naman ako ang parent.

overall, we think of him as a miracle kid. despite his condition, he's a pretty smart kid and magaling niya and he never gives up. it took him a long time to walk and to talk but he managed to do all that. so we're very proud. there's hope, mommies. kaya niyo yan. support lang talaga and patience.

I have an asd assessment sa isang clinical psychologist next month for my son. That assessment will determine if he is in the spectrum. The paediatrician here (we are based down under) suspects mild asd. When my son was 3 he was seen by devpeds, one in st lukes (dr dimalanta) and another one sa province. The one in the province said that he's alright but dr dimalanta said that he might be in the spectrum, hindi niya pa masabi that time. Basta ang bilin niya bantayan ko daw progress niya and dapat hindi siya mahuli sa mga kasabayan niya. Hindi na namin natuloy yung visits (we had two meetings lang) sa kanya kase bumalik na kami dito.

^best thing you can do for the child for now is to constantly expose him into socialization. Since mild asd ang dx sa kanya, hindi kasing critical tulad ng iba na full-blown. I know some cases na puro mild asd , particularly self-expression or delay in expressive language na naka-cope up naman at nakasabay sa age group due to constant exposure.. Ang bata kasi madali lang matuto as long na walang behavioral problems. Kadalasan kasi yun behavior ang hindrance bakit nahihirapan matuto ang bata (matigas ulo, di makafocus, mababa ang frustration level, may sariling mundo, etc)  Kung laging exposed ang bata sa mga taong nagsasalita at nag-uusap, at kumikilos nang ayon sa dapat, magagaya din nya yun eventually. Learning thru repetition/imitation ika nga. Saka wag mo pala iexpose sa gadgets (tablet, cellphone etc) para hindi magkaprob sa focusing.

My daughter @4yo indi makasalita at panay iyak lang nuon. Then araw araw sya nakipaglaro sa mga pinsan/kalaro, ayun @5 madaldal na.Pinabayaan ko lang sya at never ko pina-devped kasi alam kong normal child sya. Delayed lang talaga ang speech due to setting sa house na wala siya makalaro bukod sa kuya nya na that time ay delayed din. So last year, na-hit ko na yung goal for them na pareho na silang madaldal magsalita dahil sa constant exposure nila.  Kaya ako ngayon papetiks-petiks na ako.. But prior to that grabe din yun problema ko at gastos at di na ako halos nagsusuklay ng buhok hehe! Lately lang ako hayahay. Normally, yang mga ganyang developmental problems lumalabas yan @age 3 pataas kaya dapat talaga habulin at tutukan kundi e mahihirapan ang bata sa preschool/elementary. 😉

I just gave birth last Mar 9 pero si baby po hindi nakapasa sa newborn hearing test nya sa right ear.. sobrang sad ko po and naiiyak ako nung nalaman ko, yung test nila sa hospital is otoacoustic emission test and bale for referral po yung right ear nya and binigyan ako ng referral sa Manila hearing aid and yung gagawin daw next diagnostic test is ABR (auditory brainstem response) so ayun po..any idea po or baka po may same situation sainyo dito sa thread? Mommy velvetdreams, usually po pinapaulit yung OAE after 3 mos si baby kasi may times na due to immaturity or fluid kaya nagfail yung hearing test nya. But if the doctors recommend it na ABR agad, then follow them po. Balitaan mu kami sis sa updates kay baby mu

sis @Vika, my son was diagnosed with mild ASD when he was 3 y/o. He was recommended to undergo 2x a week OT sessions. Then ako na din mismo nag-initiate na i-enroll siya sa one-on-one tutorials. After 3 months ng one-on-one sa OT session, inilipat na siya sa group OT (2-3 sila per session). And then i enrolled him na sa summer class (10 students sila) para ma-expose na siya and to improve his social skills. Eventually, he attended Senior Nursery class.

3 months ago, na-discharge na siya sa OT, meaning pina-stop na ni therapist yung weekly sessions nila. I brought him back sa Dev Ped for re-assessment, the Dev Ped retracted the initial mild ASD diagnosis It was more of a behavioral issue lang sa anak ko, na na-correct din naman ng therapy.

Our dev ped is Dra. Kay Napalinga (from Medical City). She is really good and thorough mag-assess.

I suspect na kulang din sa socialisation but honestly i do not know if there's more pa. He is in primary school na so he is always with kids but other than that wala na siyang playmates aside sa kapatid niya na younger, we go to parks every weekend whatever the season to compensate but i think not enough. Iba talaga pag merong constant na kasocialise ang mga bata na kasing edad nila. Isa pa is we are the  only filipino na nakatira dito sa suburb namin (10 kms from melbourne cbd), we know a lot na galing dyan sa atin but super layo ng mga bahay nila.

We did speech, OT, and sped during our stay there sa PH and super laki ng improvement sa anak ko. Interventions are really helpful.

So happy for you regarding the devped's diagnosis of your son and thank you for the feedback.

My son is now turning 10 years old and is in Grade IV, he was diagnosed with ADHD. nakaka cope up naman sa school, problem ko lang everytime he poops, tatawagin pa niya kami kasi nandidiri sya. if wala kami, pinipigilan na lang nya mag poop. May naka encounter ba sa inyo ng ganito? Worried lang since nasa Grade IV na siya

May naka pag try na po ba sa inyo mag pa therapy sa CANOPY? Baka po may feedback kayo na pwede ma share. Diagnosed ASD po yung son ko, 4.7 years old. Advise ni Dev Ped ng occupational and speech therapy, CANOPY po kasi yung malapit na center sa school niya ngayon.

Hi mga sis... medyo hindi na ako nakakapag basa lately... almost a year na ang therapy ng anak ko. He was initially diagnosed with GDD. So far okay naman may improvement. But wala pa din sya speech therapy, super tagal makakuha sched at mg release ng report. Nakaka frustrate. June pa sya ng pa assess till now wala pa un report.
Wala pa din ang follow up assessment, still waiting pa din s sched ng devped. Super nakaka frustrate, parehas kasi kame ni hubby working abroad kaya super hirap.
Sabi naman sa initial assessment wala naman daw autism at adhd... pero natatakot pa din ako na baka kasi nasa spectrum na talaga sya. Meron kasi sya behavioral & sensory issues tpos speech delayed. Though meron sya communication & laguage skills hindi pa din conversational.
Kung pwede lang talaga umuwi na... we are planning to migrate sa NZ, but it will take time... ang worry ko baka it's too late na for him... kailangan na talaga matutukan ko sya... sorry for the long post... sana maging okay lahat ang mga anak naten... kapit lang... pray...

Hello mga sis [textspeak!] went to.dr relosa yesterday my son was diagnosed of language impairment, kaya niya magsalita, mqg describe, sabihin emotions niya, can asnwer what questions, he can read sentences na he just turned 4.

We were ask by the pedia kasi na pa tingin nuya dahil sa hand flapping, na confine din kasi anak ko sa bahay at tv and wala nakausap, although ngayon na school na kami, sabi ng teacher nakakasagot siya why questions pag na prompt.
