As in, 8 am ang tulog niya. :)

Hello mga mommies! Hope may mag take ng time to read.

I have a 28 month old daughter who is non verbal, she says ate, mama, dede ganun lang and talks jibberish na sya lang ang nakakaintindi. Una di ako nagwoworry since yung older sister nya who is now 8 yrs old late na rin nagsalita and meron syang coisin na older sa kanya ng 7 months ngayon pa lang din nag sstart mag talk.

Yung baby ko ay very masayahin nakikipag play naman sya sakin sa dad nya and sa sister in law na dito sakin nakatira, she is very malambing too. sumasama naman sya at nagpapakarga sa ibang tao. Di naman sya iyakin and no nagtatantrums although makikita mo yung dissapointment sa kanya pag di sya napag bigyan o nasaway sya.

Most of the time either nasa tablet ot tv sya kasi nga dun sya nag eenjoy and tahimik sya.

Ngayon bothered na ko dahil sa speech delay nya and I suspected na baka dahil sa too much screen time. Then I decided to google it and nabasa ko yung mga red flags for autism and napansin ko that my baby is showing signs.

- di sya interasado makipaglaro sa sister nya (no
Roleplay)

Mga sis sana may mag advise sakin through here or pm.

He is 4 years and 2 months old. He was diagnosed 5 months ago with Autisim Spectum Disorder. :D  Noong una hindi namin matanggap kasi we thought he's okay except may speech delay lang. Mahilg din ang son ko sa gadgets especially his ipad as early as 2years. old. Namamangha nga kami ng dad niya dahil alam niya pano i-operate, he's very observant, magaling ang memory niya. Favorite din niya ang chuchutv youtube channel. Same din ng red flags na mga nabanggit mo ganyan din and son ko, although nakikipag laro siya sa ate niya, may mga quirks din siya like hand flapping while jumping up and down pag na-eexcite o happy siya.

Ang magandang gawin mo sis let her pedia know about your concerns at kung pwede niya kayong irefer sa isang Developmental Pedia. Napaka importante ng early intervention, the earlier the better. Balitaan mo kami sis after.

Good news mga sissies! Bumalik kami sa Dev. Ped last week for a check up at sabi ng Dr. niya malaki ang improvements niya kasi marunong na son ko makipag eye contact at nakaka follow na siya ng instructions at may imitation na. Kaya our next step is dagdagan ng speech therapy. Dahil marunong na siyang mag imitate through actions, and follow instructions. Those are signs daw kasi na ready na turuan ang bata for speech(for speech delayed kids).

May nakausap din akong parent na at last, after 6 years of ABA(Applied Behavioral Analysis) therapy tinanggal na yung ABA kasi her son can function just like any other kid his age, he's 9 years old now. He was diagnosed with ASD when he was 3 years old. He was also non verbal before pero ngayon ang galing ng magbasa though hindi pa tinanggal ang speech therapy niya kasi may mga konting improvements pa ang kailangan. The parent was so happy!  :D

Have you sissies heard about Dr. Temple Grandin? She's a famous writer, professor and speaker. She has autism too.

Dr. Grandin has become a prominent author and speaker on the subject of autism because "I have read enough to know that there are still many parents, and yes, professionals too, who believe that 'once autistic, always autistic.' This dictum has meant sad and sorry lives for many children diagnosed, as I was in early life, as autistic. To these people, it is incomprehensible that the characteristics of autism can be modified and controlled. However, I feel strongly that I am living proof that they can" (from Emergence: Labeled Autistic).

Yesterday, we had another developmental pedia appointment. Although our dev ped hasn't formally diagnosed my son yet he more or less confirmed it when I confronted him about it. He says my son seems to fit a lot of the signs of being in the mid-high functioning spectrum of autism but he just doesn't want to label it yet because of the stigma that might come from it.

I know autism and other disabilities has been quite prevalent lately and I know how hard it is to accept or deal with even just the thought of it.

Hoping mommies in the same boat as iam can join this thread and provide tips, support, etc.

I have a nephew diagnosed with autism. he is now 8 years old. For now ang alam ko on going ang occupational therapy and hoping this JUne mapapayag nilang pumasok sa SPED. actually he is my favorite pamangkin siguro dahil sa lahat ng pamangkin siya ang mas nangangailangan ng love and care. He is malambing and so madaldal. MAy sarili lang mundo talaga minsan. Aside from him,   yong daughter ko naman 2 years old, hindi pa nagsasalita i mean konting words lang alam niya like hi, bye and sometimes mama.. my daughter was diagnosed naman na may communication disorder. Since may isa sa family members ko ang may autism medyo closed monitoring ako sa anak ko. anak ko ngayon is on speech therapy and occupational therapy every weekends and may SPED Summer class.

Dont worry too much. at first ganyan din kami ng asawa ko. the thought pa lang parang ayaw mag sink in sa isip mo. pero sabi nga ng dev pedia niya much better daw na habang maaga pa maaga nating maitatama.

by the way, isa sa mga classmates ng anak ko 7 years old na and may autism din daw pero dis coming school year pwede na siyang ipasok sa regular school so may pag-asa.

basta as parents lagi lang nating gabayin mga anak natin.

Sis Quiet1007.. it will be helpful if you consult to a Developmental Pedia for your peace of mind.
My son before had delays in speech so hubby and I decided to enroll him in a toddler class near our home.

But later on, lumitaw din yung ibang delays niya in terms of behavior. I was thankful din kasi the school helped us to realize these delays na pwede pa maagapan.

Guilty kami nun kasi protective din kami sobra sa bata because he's an only child.

Ayun we were asked to consult a Dev Ped and were recommended to have our child under ABA therapy (mostly focused on speech). Thankfully ngayon my son has graduated from the therapy. Coping up lang siya sa school work that he does now on his own (dati may personal shadow teacher pa siya).

pinalalakas niyo loob ko seeing na i'm not in this alone.

One of my fears is walang acceptance sa son ko. Yung kapitbahay namin na hindi alam na may autism anak ko obvious na obvious na iniiwasan nila anak nila sa anak ko because they find my son weird. Yung anak ko pag nagtratry siya jumoin sa ibang kids, nilalayuan siya kasi kakaiba siya mag converse or mag make friends.. It pains me to see how frustrated he gets when wala siyang kalaro or walang gusto makipag friends sa kanya.

Madalas pa in public minsan bigla siya magkikiss ng strangers or hahawak or mangugulat... syempre yung iba dahil di nila alam they look at my kid ng masama and they judge me.

@Quiet1007: Mas maganda talaga sis ipa consult mo na sa developmental pedia as early as now.

Aside from that my red flags din like hand flapping, not responding to name and short eye contact. Exposed din siya sa gadgets. Ngayun nag OOT na kami and happy naman ako sa improvement kahit di pa sentences sinasabi niya pero atleast my mga words na.

My daughter was on OT and ST for about 1 1/2 year and I can say that she improved a lot. She's enrolled on mainstream school and maayos naman ang lahat. Awardee nga sya last recognition day nila and we were very happy.

Did my research dami pala sila branch. I dont have any idea kung magkano kaya sa kanila.

I think yun talaga ang 1st step.

For peace of mind din yan and para kung may problema man talaga, malaman agad at mabigyan ng proper treatment.

I had my daughter check as early as 18 months old sya and I do not regret it. Nadiagnosed sya ng Global developmental delay (Pinaka matindi sa speech and language), now she's 4yrs old na and wala na syang delays. :), autism was also ruled out twice by 2 different dev ped. (we seek opinion from 3 dev peds).

Sulit lahat ng therapy and dev ped check up.

So go for it sis, yun ang 1st step. Wag ka mag worry and matakot. :)

^^sis blackrainbow-- my son had ABA therapy with SMLC for 2 years and it really helped him to improve his speech and behavior. Dati my son could not seem to focus pag kinakausap. Pero nung nag ABA na siya talagang naging maganda na yung responses niya to people and his surroundings. Nabawasan din yung tantrums eventually.

I also liked na yung mga drills nila nagfofocus din sa fine motor skills kasi parang hindi marunong humawak ng lapis yung anak ko and parang hindi siya pwersado. But now parang di ko na kayanin yung pwersa niya.  ;)

Yung rate nila per session was 750php. Yung assessment parang 2k yata sis. And they can offer you an option if you want the session to be at your home or doon sa center nila.

@keejac21: Thank you sa feed back sis. sis ask lang ako kung exclusive ABA na lang ba kinuha ng anak mo or my sessions pa rin siya with ST and OT? kasi feeling ko yung ABA parang all in one yung approach. Plus, I dont need to pay separately pa sa OT and ST which costs the same lang naman sa therapy center tapos 1 hour lang at malayo pa yung center namin.

Sis blackrainbow: ABA lang for my son. They explained to me na dun sa program nagincorporate sila ng OT and ST drills. What's good also sis is pwede ka magsuggest sa kanila if you want na magfocus sa ganitong area for your child. They will explain if makakaganda ba ito sa progress ng bata or not.

I dont think they have a speech pathologist for ST talaga. They have trained therapists pero wala yung may license talaga.

I also found out na mas interested sya sa mga books. And yung eye contact nya is so better na talaga, mas madalas na rin mag babble salita sya ng salita and nakikipag usap kahit di mo maintindihan yung sinasabi nya. A friend of mine visited and nakwento ko sa kanya yung prob ko sabi nya she have 3 nephews na may autism and sobrang malayo naman daw sa anak ko, kasi may baby is sobrang sweet and mahilig makipag laro wala din flapping, tip toe and tantrums. Although I've seen a lot of improvements sa behavior nya still magpapa dev ped pa rin kami, although I'm still convincing my husband he thinks na I'm paranoid. He's saying na kung mahina man ang anak namin compared to other kids tanggap naman daw nya and would still love her the same.  Thanks sa lahat ng sumagot mas magaan na ang loob ko. thank you sa forum na to :)

@keejac21: thank you sis. Naka schedule na kami next Friday sa kanila for assessment. I'll observe na lang muna for a month para ma compare ko. Then maybe we can drop the OT and get ST kung may available slot.

Speaking as an OT, feeling ko misleading yun "all in" approach ng ibang discipline. For me , I studied 5yrs OT at one of the leading universities in the Philippines, then another year to prepare for boards and the exam taking itself. Speech therapists naman 4yrs sila. Alam ko yun isang discipline more on training lang, pwede pa nga sila graduate ng unrelated course e. Walang school ng offer ng course for that discipline.
That's my opinion lang po, pero syempre as parents we want the best for our kids.

If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me a message :)
