Hi mama squek and letters_to_cleo, hindi ko alam kung saan dapat magpost but since dito natanong re - Turkish airline dito na rin ako sagot. Im impressed with the food, masarap. :) The aircraft hindi new planes nasakyan namin from istanbul  to seoul and back but still fine. Normal - nothing special. I think mas spacious ang economy ng etihad and emirates (for newer planes) plus mas malaki screen nila. Between Emirates, Etihad and Turkish airlines ( itong 3 ang may pinaka-direct from Dublin), my preference would either be Etihad orTurkish. Actually kung same price i'd go with Turkish dahil mas maganda ang flight times.

Mas tourist-oriented yung mercado san miguel, mas madaming local sa San Anton, and mas malaki.  Yung San Anton kasi pwedeng dine-in na di masyadong magulo haha.  Pero yung market feel, for me mas okay sa San Miguel, maliit lang kasi ang San Miguel.  For me parehas na okay, pero pwede nyong itry yung san miguel muna , medyo mas sanitized kasi sya, pero if gusto nyong mag chueca night out, okay din dumaan sa San Anton.

For me, magaganda yung mga churches sa labas ng Madrid : Toledo, Avila, etc.

Shegie, yay good na kahit long haul maayos sila!

May printed menu din and totoong cutlery din ang gamit like their long haul. Hihi.

Ay from istanbul to Dublin they served freshly squeezed orange juice (hindi naka-carton) although limited dahil when hubby asked again ubos na. Homemade lemonade na lang. :)

Here is our itinerary which I prepared. I had to make the pace quite relaxed and easy since we will be travelling with 5 senior citizens and 1 kid. Please share any travel tips you may have esp re. shopping and restos to check out.

Days 1-2 - Lisbon - explore city center
Days 3-5 - Fatima
Days 6-7 - Lisbon - with day trip to Sintra and Cascais
Day 8     - Malaga
Days 9-10- Granada
Days 11-13- Sevilla - including stopover in Ronda
Day 14     - Cordoba
Days 15-16-Toledo - including stopover lunch in Valdepenas
Days 17-21 - Madrid ----with day trip to Avila and Segovia

I hope someone can give me restaurant recommendations especially in Madrid!
And does anyone know where in Madrid do I go for high-end brands? I am hoping to purchase my bridal shoes in Madrid. Is early October a good time to shop? I am hoping I score my bridal shoes on sale =)

Thanks you!

^hello Chili!  Super tagal kong di nakapag-gtalk sa sobrang busy sa work haaay.  Will go on a 2 week bakasyon kasi to Pinas a week from now kaya ngarag much. Anyway, here,  I´ll try to answer your queries:

Of  the places you´re planning to visit I´ve been to the following:
Lisbon - mura ang food, nice city actually, small lang sya. we spent three days here, after two days wala na kaming mapuntahan haha!  We also made a day trip to Sintra (http://www.sintra-portugal.com/index.php) Maganda sa Sintra, especially the bus trip to the town since it´s up on a mountain.  five hours in Sintra is enough na.  Pero to be honest, if you´ll be going to Toledo eh okay na na sa di na kayo mag Sintra. Compared to Lisbon, very touristy ang Sintra thus the prices are pretty high, pero definitely cheaper than the Northern Eu  countries (France, UK, NL).  Note lang, haha,  sa Spain kasi when they place bread or salads and small dishes of appetizers sa table before you order, these are free.  Sa Portugal, naku may bayad hahaha!  So ayun lang, it was a learning experience for us hahaha!

Granada-  I love this town!  I spent my first holy week in Spain in Granada.  Very kind ang mga tao dito and super nice talaga ng town!  You can visit the Alhambra at night or during daytime.  We did both, mas maganda yung night time visit. :-)  Seafood meals are yummy and not expensive in Granada.  Also taxi rides are very affordable (well, in general, taxi rides in Spain naman are super reasonable)

Cordoba - made a daytrip to Cordoba from Granada, maganda rin.  We took a hop on hop off bus to Cordoba kasi medyo malalayo ang areas and since day trip kami, we were pressed for time.  Nice din.  Moorish architecture din sya like Granada.

Toledo - eto ang usual first tourist stop when I had guest in Spain.  I wrote a lot about Toledo na haha. I think I went there 5 times in a span of two years haha.  Best restaurant in Toledo, and affordable too is La Aldaba:http://www.hostal-aldaba.com/antigua/flip-book/carta/carta.html

Madrid-- In general, all  restaurants in Madrid offering Spanish cuisine from the lowly cafeterias to hotel restaurants offer good meals naman. :-)   If you want to try molecular gastronomy meals at not expensive prices ( it´s also a Michelin-starred restau) you can try Sergi Arola: http://www.sergiarola.es/  .  Get the lunch menu, parang 60 Euros lang sya for lunch. ( I also blogged about this).  Sergi worked under Ferran Adria in El Bulli. Very nice, also the neighborhood ng resto very serene but walking distance (about 10 minutes) to the centro.

I don´t eat at ultra highend restaus in Madrid, like most locals, since the common restaurants are uber good na, so don´t be afraid to try restaurants in Madrid.  From experience, even the humble looking ones offer great meals  :-)  Do not however miss on doing a tapa crawl in Cava Baja  and the hot chocolate in Chocolateria San Gines!  If you want to try Galician cuisine, there´s this restaurant we ate at na sobrang yummy and so cheap, like 15 Euros for 2 people nakapagtakeout pa kami. Not the cleanest and most picturesque but really hearty, authentic Galician fare: El Chacon (also blogged about this!)

For high-end brands,  go to the El Corte Ingles in Nuevos Ministerios.  This is their biggest branch and all the chichi brands are here.: LV, Gucci, Loewe, laha! Not on sale though unless sale season.
For the outlets of highend brands, the only one I know is Las Rozas.  It is like Bicester in the UK. It´s actually  operated by the same group.  Here along with international luxury brands. the Spanish premier brands are also offered ---AD, Bimbi and Lola, and I think may Loewe din. Easy to go to rin by commuting.  Just go to Moncloa and take the bus to Las Rozas.  Pwede rin sya i-drive, not so far naman.

Ayun, that´s all I can think of at the moment! Cheers!

OMG! Thanks so so so much sis letters_to cleo!!! I really really appreciate all your tips!!! Thank so much for taking the time out to share all your tips and experiences. I am gonna take down notes on what you posted. =)

I will definitely check out the restos you mentioned in Toledo and Madrid!! I can't believe the resto you mentioned in Madrid has a chef that has trained in El Bulli. whhaaaaa I will save that resto for one day night with my fiance =) Will check out your blog post about it too! Yayyy so excited!!

Re Sintra!! Thanks so so much re your tips. I was bent on going there. But now, I just might skip it since you said not necessary naman if were going to Toledo =) At least Im not pressured to go there na hahah

Sayang I dont think its sale season when we will be in Madrid. I guess the outlet is my only hope of scoring discounted bridal shoes. Ill also be with my brother who is getting married this Dec. and my fiance, who both want to buy their wedding shoes too. Hhahahhah so we will all go to Las Rozas to find some shoes. I just checked their website and apparently Gucci is opening there too. yay!! Will tell my mom about Le Creuset store in Las Rozas although gosh each pan must weigh about 3 kg hahah But she might want to come with us to the outlet.

Again thank you very very much for all your help! Have a safe and happy vacation in the Philippines!! =) =)

^Chili of course you can do the balikbayan box route for your purchases in Madrid haha!  There´s an LBC balikbayan box service in Madrid which is what I used before (since I used to do prebuys and preorders from Madrid).  Here´s the number of the LBC BB box, just in case:  +34 911 86 88 89  There´s another cargo forwarder that also use in Spain, pero most reliable the LBC.  If you are sending items via box, itodo mo na and buy goodies that are cheap in Spain such as:
condiments for paella ---bomba and arborio rice,  paelleras, saffron or paella mixes
also wines!  Super mura ang wines and cava.  And from countless batches of sending wines through cargo, basta properly packed, no problem.

Enjoy Spain!

LOL Super mahal here. One small sauce pan is 5k in rustans. Of course those pans last a lifetime though!

Thanks soooo much for the balikbayan box info!!! =)

Sis, what could be a good guest wedding souvenir/giveaway we can buy in Madrid? I was thinking like Spanish fans, but there are so many here=(  Do you have any suggestions? Im OK even with food items as long as I can put them in the balikbayan box hehe... I can give pala small bottles of Spanish cologne noh? Whats good to buy na sana not anything over 2.5 euros LOL

Hi Chili! I will give you hahaha!

Zipcode na gamitin mo is 28029.   You can check the prices of jamons, colognes, sweets, chocolates, etc there.  I find that mura ang mga artisanal preserves and jams sa Spain,  also marami silang sugarfree/glutenfree items na 1/3 cheaper ng price sa other European countries ( like where I am in Holland).

The big colognes ( 500 ml - 600 ml) usually start at 2.6€.  You can buy a lot  but bulky sila so you can instead divide order personalized cologne bottles from a supplier in Pinas and repack lang these big bottles:-) You need manpower for these though.  If you enjoy churros con chocolate or like thick chocolate drinks na spoonable sa sobrang thick.  Most groceries have the super thick chocolate mixes perfect for churros in ready to mix boxes (just add boiling water), choose the valor brand as eto yung pinakamasarap na natry ko na thick chocolate from the grocery.  perfect sa ensaimada!

Fans for souvenir pwede rin, pero that´s the case, better pa get from china kasi ganun lang din naman ang quality, sayang pa space in the BB box haha!

Another good buy and pamigay is sangria!  Very cheap and merong  sugar-free and even alcohol free variants.  Price ng nasa magandang bottle ng Sangria (as in looks like wine, in glass bottle), for 750 ml it´s 2.99€ pero meron pang even cheaper like 1-2 Euros lang.  Browse lang through the sites above para you can check your options.

Wines, edible table wines are very cheap too.  If you notice, in restaurants free lang ang wine, included na usually sa meals,  eh pano one bottle is only 1.5€, but ayun very bulky lang kasi ang wines. and you have ensure that they are packed well.

For Ninongs/Ninangs and special people,  you can buy silverworks ( like small swords , metalworks) and damasquinado jewelries from Toledo. Sobrang nice and also affordable (but not as cheap as the 2.5 € colognes).

One novelty na chocolate pasalubong is the  chocolate covered cookies called Filipinos.  Tuwang tuwa pinapasalubungan ko nito haha!  Not okay na pamigay for souvenirs pero okay sya na bulk pasalubong kung kani-kanino.  Spanish chocolates (Valor, Zahor, Lacasa) are mura rin.  For less than 3€ you can buy na  beautiful packs of  Spanish chocolate bombones (truffles or chocolate pralines).

Ay one thing more! Maghoard ng canned seafoods from Spain!  Sardines, sardinillas, anchovies, small squids, mussels, also those stuffed peppers!  For some reason ang sarap ng mga canned goodies sa Spain. At mura pati! Also canned artichokes, asparagus too, mura sa Spain.

Haha! Enjoy Spain!

letters_to_cleo!! OMG medyo I was drooling when I read about all the food goodies. Especially the super thick spoonable chocolate for churros!! Im gonna  hoard that talaga for myself!!! =)

LOL Ive tried the filipinos hehe I brought that home for pasalubong before because it is always a good conversation piece hahaha.

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST... OMG sis! Because of you I think na solve na a wedding souvenir issue ko haha. I think I want to give the Spanish chocolate bumbones as giveaways!! =) =) I just have to check the expiry date pala. I hope I find small boxes in nice packaging just with a few pieces inside =)

Plus gonna check out the silverworks in Toledo.. although I only have 1 day there =( =(

Thank you again so so much for all the super helpful tips, and taking the time and effort to post it. It is very much appreciated!!

Nakalimutan ko,  for bulk buys na grocery goodies sa Carrefour or Mercadona kayo magbuy sis.  These are lower priced shops ( parang SM, Landmark). Don´t forget to buy jamon bellota and tomato jam.

Trapa  (for me pinakamaganda magpackage ng chocs): http://trapa.com/17-bombones

Valor: http://www.valor.es/en/

Lacasa (pinaka low end haha, di ko masyado feel chocolate nila, mas matamis kasi compared sa iba): http://www.lacasa.es/

BTW sis... would you know where the nearest Carrefour and Mercadona is in Madrid? Our hotel is at Puerta del Sol so I have easy access to public transpo everywhere =) Plan to hoard all the goodies you mentioned!! =)
